Josh and Joe analyze story-driven games, from walking simulators to RPGs to episodic games. Each episode covers a single game and includes discussions on plot, characters, and those gut-wrenching choices you’re often forced to make.
The second episode of Life is Strange 2 is called Rules and it kept Josh and Joe constantly second-guessing their own rule-making choices.
If you haven’t played through The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit yet you probably should. It is free and only takes about an hour to play. Your actions in that game will have an impact in this episode of Life is Strange, and we recorded a spoilercast for you to check out.
You can play Life is Strange 2 on every major platform except for Nintendo Switch. You can purchase the complete five-episode season for $39.99 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The first episode has also been included in Xbox Game Pass, so if you already pay for the $10/month subscription you can play for free.
If you’ve not played this episode yet, or if you’re wondering if you need to play all the previous episodes, then check out the first few minutes of the show. Every episode of Story Players starts with a brief spoiler-free introduction to the game.

The first Life is Strange is the game most responsible for the creation of Story Players. It had Josh and Joe mulling over the difficult decisions and sharing how they made them as soon as they finished playing each episode. It easily became one of Josh’s all-time favorite games. When a prequel was released, Before the Storm, we made it the very first game to cover for this podcast. Don’t Nod has released a new season, simply called Life is Strange 2, and the guys are back to give a full spoilercast.
Life is Strange 2 is not a direct sequel to the first game. It follows the journey of two brothers after a traumatic experience that feels like it came right out of the newspapers. It is still in the same universe as the other games though, including The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit. That game is free and only takes about an hour to play. We also recorded a spoilercast for you to check out.

The final season of Telltale’s The Walking Dead seemed as though it may not see the conclusion it deserves, because days before episode two was released Telltale announced that the studio was closing. Despite the heart-breaking news, the second episode was released on time. It was also announced a couple weeks later that the season would be completed. While keeping track of the news Josh and Joe played through the second episode, not knowing whether it would be the last.
The second episode, titled Suffer the Children, sees Clementine and AJ at odds with the other kids at the school. While tensions are tight, there is a big threat to deal with.

The first season of The Walking Dead video games offered one of the first truly gripping narratives in the media. It was one of the games that helped inspire the creation of Story Players! Now, Telltale has released the first installment of the final season in the series.
The Story Players will be playing all four episodes as they are released. They have completed the introduction, and in this first episode they break down the new and returning characters, new games mechanics, and of course, make a few predictions along the way.

It’s no surprise that the Story Players love the games in the Life is Strange series, so when Don’t Nod and Square Enix announced The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit at E3 they knew they would play it right away.
Captain Spirit is something of a demo for the forthcoming sequel to Life is Strange. It takes place in the same universe but apparently offers a completely stand-alone story. It was released for free on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One, so there’s no reason not to check it out. It’s also quite short, at about 90 minutes in length. There were many things Josh and Joe liked about it, including the new engine for the game. It simply looks beautiful! There are also new control mechanics to explore, but the game retains many of the trappings of the previous installments that the guys fell in love with.

The Story Players have completed one of their most anticipated games of 2018, Detroit: Become Human. It’s an interactive drama from French game developer Quantic Dream. In the game, you play as three different androids in a world where the use of androids as housekeepers, security guards, athletes, and other professions has led to 35% unemployment in the United States. Not only that but some of the androids have turned “deviant” as they appear to have gained free will.
This is the longest episode of Story Players ever released, but it’s worth using that pause button where necessary. Detroit: Become Human has so many branching paths and final endings that Josh and Joe couldn’t have done it justice without discussing their walk-throughs.

The Story Players have completed Final Fantasy XV! For Josh, it’s the first time he’s actually completed a Final Fantasy game! In this episode, the guys discuss the final chapter of the game. They also give their final thoughts on the complete story, and how the two different versions played out. Will Josh play through the pocket edition? Will Joe put 30 hours into the main edition? What exactly happened at the end of the game? These are just some of the questions the guys answer in the conclusion to their Final Fantasy XV series.

The Story Players are almost to the end of Final Fantasy XV! In this fifth episode, they played through chapters eight and nine on the pocket edition. On the main version, they played the same content, but it was broken up into chapters eleven, twelve, and thirteen. That’s right, they’ve played through the infamous thirteenth chapter! So in addition to covering all the events that led up to the characters making it to Gralea, Josh and Joe also discuss the changes that Square Enix made to Chapter 13 after so many fans complained about it. Josh went into the chapter having no idea what all the fuss was about, so you’re going to get his unbiased feelings on the chapter.

The Story Players are more than halfway through Final Fantasy. While the chapters are numbered differently, Josh and Joe played the same ones. They were called Callings and The Heart of a King. On the Pocket Edition, they were chapters six and size, while on the main version they were chapters nine and ten.
Callings is the first time we see Noctis and the guys leave the comfy confines of their homeland before setting sail for Altissia. There Noctis will have a huge encounter with an even bigger god. Afterward, the quest continues by train, deeper behind enemy lines.

As the Story Players continue their way through Final Fantasy XV their paths started to get confusing. On the console version, Josh played chapters five through eight. They are titled Dark Clouds, A Way Forward, Party of Three, and Seaworthy. Joe, who continues to play the Pocket Edition cover the same content by simply playing chapters four and five. They are named Dark Clouds and Seaworthy.
After the last episode, we find our characters in the good graces of a god, but they are also without their beloved car. Fortunately, this is Final Fantasy, so they find an even more fun mode of transportation. These chapters explore more of the darkness of the Niflheim empire’s plans and lead the quartet to a new area.
