Beloved,
There are days when nothing seems right, when every shell you pick up on the winding shore is broken, when the silken treasure slips through your fingers too quickly, and when comforts are empty and the world is noisy.
On those jagged edged days, when the wind is screaming for a reason only she understands.
And you find yourself all alone.

But on some days, Beloved. On days like today...
We need to look, to see.

In all one's lifetime it is oneself that one spends the most time being with or dealing with. But it is precisely oneself that one has the least understanding of.
When you are going upwards in life you tend to overestimate yourself. It seems that everything you seek for is within your reach; luck and opportunities will come your way and you are overjoyed that they constitute part of your worth.
When you are going downhill you tend to underestimate yourself, mistaking difficulties and adversities for your own incompetence. It's likely that you think it wise for yourself to know our place and stay aloof from worldly wearing a mask of cowardice, behind which the flow of sap in your life will be retarded.
To get a thorough understanding of oneself is to gain a correct view of oneself and be a sober realist -- aware of both one's strength and shortage. You may look forward hopefully to the future but be sure not to expect too much, for ideals can never be fully realezed.
You may be courageous to meet challenges but it should be clear to you where to direct your efforts. That's to way so long as you have a perfect knowledge of yourself there won't be difficulties you can't overcome, nor obstacles you can't surmount.
To get a thorough understanding of oneself needs selfappreciation. Whether you liken yourself to a towering tree or a blade of grass, whether you think you are a high mountain or a small stone, you represent a state of nature that has its own raison detre.
If you earnestly admire yourself you'll have a real sense of self-appreciation, which will give you confidence. As soon as you gain full confidence in yourself you'll be enabled to fight and overcome any adversity.
To get a thorough understanding of oneself also requires doing oneself a favor when it's needed. In time of anger, do yourself a favor by giving vent to it in a quiet place so that you won't be hurt by its flames; in time of sadness, do yourself a favor by sharing it with your friends so as to change a gloomy mood into a cheerful one; in time of tiredness, do yourself a favor by getting a good sleep or taking some tonic. Show yourself loving concern about your health and daily life. As you are aware, what a person physically has is but a human body that's vulnerable when exposed to the elements. So if you fall ill, it's up to you to take a good care of yourself. Unless you know perfectly well when and how to do yourself a favor, you won't be confident and ready enough to resist the attack of illness.
To get a thorough understanding of oneself is to get a full control of one's life. Then one will find one's life full of color and flavor.
How wonderful are islands! Islands in space, like this one I have come to, ringed about by miles of water, linked by on bridges, no cables, no telephones.
An lsland from the world and the world's life. Islands is time, like this short vacation of mine.
The past and the future are cut off: only the present remains.
One lives like a child or a saint in the immediacy of here and now.
Every day, every act, is an island, washed by time and space, and has an island's completion.

People, too, become like islands in such an atmosphere, self-contained, whole and serene; respecting other people's solitude, not intruding on their shores, standing back in revernce before the miracle of another individual.
"No man is an island," said John Donne. I feel we are all islands--in a common sea.
We are all, in the last analysis, alone.
And this basic state of solitude is not something we have any choice about.
It is , as the poet Rilke says, "not something that one can take or leave".
We are solitary. We may delude ourselves and act as though this were not so, yes, even to begin by assuming it."Naturally," he goes on to say,"we will turn giddy."
We seem so frightened today of being alone that we never let it happen. Even if family, friends, and movies should fail, there is still the radio or television to fill up the void.
Women, who used to complain of loneliness, need never be alone any more.
We can do our housework with soap-opera heroes at our side. Even day-dreaming was more creative than this; it demanded something of oneself and it fed the inner life.
Now instead of planting our solitude with our dream bolssoms, we choke the space with continuous music, chatter and companionship to which we do not even listen.
It is simply there to fill the vacuum. When the noise stops there is no inner music to take its place. We must relearn to be alone.
Human growth is a process of experimentation, trial, and error ultimately leading to wisdom.
Each time you choose to trust yourself and take action, you can never quite be certaion how the situation will turn out.
Sometimes you are victorious, and sometimes you become disillusioned.
The failed experiments, however, are no less valuable than the experiments that ultimately prove successful; in fact, you usually learn more from your perceived "failures" than you do from your perceived "success".
If you have made what you perceive to be a mistake or failed to live up to your own expectations, you will most likely put up a barrier between your essence and the part of you that is the alleged wrong-doer.
However, perceiving past actions as mistakes implies guilt and blame, and it is not possible to learn anything meaning while you are engaged in blaming.
Therefore, forgiveness is required when you are harshly judging yourself. Forgiveness is the act of erasing an emotional debt. There are four kinds of forgiveness.
The first is beginner forgiveness for yourself.
The second of forgiveness is beginner forgiveness for another.
The third kind of forgiveness is advanced forgiveness of yourself. This is for serious transgressions, the ones you carry with deep shame when you do soimething that violates your own values and ethics, you create a chasm between your standards and your actual behavior.
In such a case, you need to work very hard at forgiving youeself for these deeds so that yo call close this chasm and realign with the best part of yourself.
This does not mean that you should rush to forgive yourselfor not feel regret or remorse; but wallowing in these feelings for a protracted period of time is not healthy, and punishing yourself excessively will only creats a bigger gap between you and your ethics.
The last and perhaps most difficult one is the advanced forgiveness of another.
At some time of our life, you may have been severely wronged or hurt by another person to such a degree that forgiveness seems impossible.
However, harboring resentment and revenge fantasies only keeps you trapped in victim hood. Under such a circumstance, you should force yourself to see the bigger picture, by so doing, you will be able to shift the focus away from the anger and resentment.
It is only through forgiveness that you can erase wrongdoing and clean the memory. when you can finally release the situation, you may come to see it as a necessary part of your growth.

It may mean looking for new ways to spend your energy that coincide with your particular definition of a great life. Life will reward your best effort.
3. C—Create Priorities. A great life is the result of creating priorities. It's easy to spend your days just responding to the next thing that gets your attention, instead of intentionally using the time, energy and money you have in a way that's important to you.
4. R—Reserves. A great life is the result of having reserves—reserves of things, time, space, energy, money. With reserves, you acquire far more than you need-not 6 months living expenses, but 5 years worth; not 15 minutes of free time, 1 day. Reserves are important because they reduce the fear of consequences, and that allows you to make decisions based on what you really want instead of what the fear decides for you.
5. E—Eliminate distractions. A great life is the result of eliminating distractions. Up to 75% of your mental energy can be tied up in things that draining and distracting you. Eliminating distractions can be a difficult concept to many people, since they haven't really considered that there is another way to live. Look around at someone's life you admire. 6. T—Thoughts. A great life is the result of controlling your thoughts so that you accept and allow for the possibility that it actually can happen to you! belief in the outcome will directly dictate how successful you are. 7. S—Start. A great life is the result of starting. There's the old saying everyone's familiar with “a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” In order to even move from the couch to the refrigerator, you have to start. There’s no better time to start than today. Don't wait for a raise, or until the kids get older or the weather is better. Today, right now, is the right day to start to take a step in the direction of your heart's desires. It's what you do TODAY that will make a difference in your life tomorrow.
The tides advance; the tides recede. Winter goes and summer comes. summer wanes and the cold increases. The sun rises; the sun sets. The moon is full; the moon is black. The birds arrive; the birds depart. Flowers bloom; flowers fade. Seeds are sown; harvests are reaped. all nature is a circle of moods and I am a part of nature and so, like the tides, my moods will rise; my moods will fall.
Today l will be master of my emotions.
It is one of nature's tricks, little understood, that each day I awaken with moods that have changed from yesterday.
Yesterday's joy will become today's sadness; yet today's sadness will grow into tomorrow's joy. Inside me is a wheel, constantly tuning from sadness to joy, from exultation to depression, from happiness to melancholy.
Like the flowers, today's full bloom of joy will fade and wither into despondency, yet I will remember that as today's dead flower carries the seed of tomorrow's bloom so, too, does today's sadness carry the seed of tomorrow's joy.
And how will I master these emotions so that each day will be productive? For unless my mood is right the day will be a failure.
Trees and plants depend on the weather to flourish but I make my own weather, yea I transport it with me.
If I bring rain and gloom and darkness and pessimism to my customers then they will react with rain and gloom and darkness and pessimism and they will purchase naught.
If I bring joy and enthusiasm and brightness and laughter to my customers they will react with joy and enthusiasm and brightness and laughter and my weather will produce a harvest of sales and a granary of gold for me.
And how will I master my emotions so that every day is a happy day, and a productive one?
I will learn this secret of the ages: Weak is he who permits his thoughts to control his actions; strong is he who forces his actions to control his thoughts.
Each day, when I awaken, I will follow this plan of battle before I am captured by the forces of sadness, self-pity and failure-
If I feel depressed I will sing.
If I feel sad I will laugh.
If I feel ill I will double my labor.
If I feel fear I will plunge ahead.

If I feel incompetent I will remember past success.
If I feel insignificant I will remember my goals.
Henceforth, I will know that only those with inferior ability can always be at their best, and I am not inferior.
There will be days When I must IN THE WORLD constantly struggle against forces which would tear me down.
Those such as despair and sadness are simple to recognize but there are others which approach with a smile and the hand of friendship and they can also destroy me. Against them, too, I must never relinquish control:
If I become overconfident I will recall my failures.
If I overindulge I will think of past hungers.
If I feel complacency I will remember my competition.
If I enj oy moments of greatness I will remember moments of shame.
If I feel all-powerful I will try to stop the wind.
If I attain great wealth I will remember one unfed mouth.
If I become overly proud I will remember a moment of weakness.
If I feel my skill is unmatched I will look at the stars.

Beautiful young people are the whimsey of nature, but beautiful old people are true works of art.
But you don't become "beautiful" just by virtue of the aging process.
Real beauty comes from learning, growing, and loving in the ways of life.
That is the Art of Life. You can learn slowly, and sometimes painfully, by just waiting for life to happen to you.
Or you can choose to accelerate your growth and intentionally devour life and all it offers.
