Marquette University Student Government (MUSG) President Sara Manjee and Executive VP Dan Brophy work hard advocating for students. Mike Haischer and Casandra Goodrich help advance understanding of human potential at the new Athletic and Human Performance Research Center (AHPRC), which officially opened in April 2019. The AHPRC allows Marquette faculty and partners from the health care industry to collaborate on research and cutting-edge innovation in the areas of elite athletic performance, human performance, rehabilitation, fitness data analytics, and other related disciplines. Mike is a Strength and Conditioning Specialist with a Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology. Mike is also a Marquette alum (B.S. Health Sci ’14) and current student, studying for his Ph.D. in Exercise and Rehabilitation Science. In addition to experience teaching exercise physiology, fitness and nutrition, and exercise testing and prescription courses, Mike has published research in the applied performance domain and has completed multiple strength and conditioning internships, including one with the Milwaukee Brewers. As lab manager of the AHPRC, Mike serves to facilitate collaborative team science and assist investigators in realizing their research goals. He is also committed to making a positive impact on Marquette Athletics, by helping to conduct applied research based on the performance goals of the teams, coaches, and individual athletes. Casandra graduated from Marquette University in 2019, completing a degree in Exercise Physiology. While an undergraduate, she competed as a sprinter for Marquette’s Track and Field team, a member of the 2016 and 2017 BIG East Indoor and Outdoor Conference Championship team. Casandra has since acted as an assistant coach for Marquette and is excited at the opportunity to work in the AHPRC. Andrew Stimmel was recently named Head Coach of the Marquette Men's Lacrosse team. In 2016, he spent a year as an Assistant Coach at Marquette while he helped lead the team to their first BIG EAST Championship. He returned to Marquette after coaching at Yale, where they have notched an overall record of 42-13 since 2017. Mechanical engineering majors Chris Malliet, James McKenna and Phillip Parisi have been friends since freshman year when they lived in McCormick Hall. Now roommates about to graduate, they wanted a weekly tradition to bond a larger group of friends. So they founded a Friday pasta night. Starting in September, they encouraged all attendees to bring a new friend the following week to meet more people and expand the circle. Marquette graduate students Benjamin Rangel and Kyle Hagge created the Bridge the City podcast to focus on local Milwaukee communities. Disheartened by national media narratives, they sought to inform individuals about local elected officials like city council or the sheriff's office. Every episode ends with action steps to create positive change where people live. Ben and Kyle first met 3 years ago when they moved to Milwaukee to serve as AmeriCorps members with College Possible, a nonprofit helping low-income students get to and through college. Currently, both Ben and Kyle are Trinity Fellows at Marquette University. The Trinity Fellowship is a graduate program that focuses on social and economic justice and allows students to earn their Masters degree while simultaneously working at a nonprofit organization.
