There is a reason that in Philippians 4:6, Paul tells us to present our requests to God, with thanksgiving. It is not because God is an ego-maniac who needs to be acknowledged for everything He does (although He really should be acknowledged for everything He does, because without Him, we wouldn't be breathing).
God knows that gratitude changes everything. It changes us, and it changes the world around us. He does everything for our best interest, and telling us to practice gratitude is no different. We love having Shelton Markham on, and this episode can be filed under the "gems from Shelton" folder. At the end of the episode, he and Andrew give us some practical tools for being thankful, and you don't want to miss those.

We can have hope always, especially through loss and death, because Jesus is coming back for His people - both dead in the body, and still walking the earth.
This is the end of our study of 1 Thessalonians, and Paul waits to the end to really bring home that Jesus IS returning, and that should give us hope, and also give us motivation and direction about living while we are on earth.

1 Thessalonians 4.1-12 may be brief, but it is packed with useful information for anyone who wants to be a disciple maker. Paul explains the importance of not letting our own desires control our lives, and how, if we can control our bodies, we will be able to love others deeply. Andrew and John loved unpacking this passage, and we know you'll love it too!

Justin Gravitt is back on the show, and we are thrilled to talk to him about how to change culture (specifically church culture) the way Jesus did. There are a lot of motivations that go into discipleship programs in a church, but only a few of them are biblical. Check out Justin's book The Foundation of a Disciple Making Culture for some great insight on this!
Justin Gravitt is a disciple-making leader and writer whose primary passion is to help everyday believers repurpose their lives in light of God‘s plan for them as disciple-makers. Justin has served with The Navigators since 2000, and is the founder and executive Director of the Dayton Disciple Makers Network, host to the popular Practitioner’s Podcast, and author of The Foundation of a Disciplemaking Culture . He is an avid Reds fan, loves the beach, and dad-joking his kids. He lives in Dayton, Ohio with his wife, Kristen and their four children.

We're back this week with 1 Thessalonians 2! In chapter 2, Paul talks about not just what he said to the Thessalonians, but how he lived among them. There is a cost to making disciples, and Paul was very familiar with that cost. Does the way we make disciples today reflect the way Paul did? More importantly, does the way we make disciples today reflect Jesus?

We're back with another inductive book study! Come along as we take a deep dive into 1 Thessalonians. Did you know that 1 Thessalonians is (probably) the earliest book in the New Testament? So, as we study it, we can see what the earliest Church was facing, struggling with, and how Paul helped them walk through it.
Stay tuned for the rest of 1 Thessalonians!

The post #214 – BIG NEWS!! Introducing The Pathway Series appeared first on Into the Harvest
Discipleship is a term that is quite frequently thrown around in our church culture today. But how does Jesus view discipleship? And how did Jesus do discipleship when He was walking on earth? John interviews Justin Gravitt to talk about 7 tests of discipleship to determine if we are actually helping people become more like Jesus.
Both Justin and John have a lot of wisdom that we can all glean from. Unfortunately, they both root for the wrong football team, and we're not letting that "O-H" chant slide. #wearepennstate

The post #213- Justin Gravitt: How to Make Disciples – 7 Tests appeared first on Into the Harvest
How we think of ourselves matters more than we probably realize. Our view of ourselves shapes the way we see God, and others, and it affects our actions everyday. There is an enemy out to steal, kill, and destroy our view of ourselves because he knows that if he can lie to us about who we are, he can lie to us about a legion of other things. In this episode, John had the pleasure of interviewing his wife Jess about identity in Christ. Jess is a Bible teacher and a mom, and has created a great tool to help us understand the importance of our identity.
