Spencer Hall Helps Preview the College Football Playoffs | 12.20

On today’s episode, Spencer Hall of the Shutdown Fullcast Podcast joins Bomani Jones to give us a preview of the College Football Playoffs which begins this weekend. But before they get to that, in honor of the holidays Spencer explains why the backscratcher is one of the best Christmas gifts you can give someone. (0:45) From there they discuss the big weekend in College football by breaking down the first game — Notre Dame vs Indiana. The guys explain why this will be extremely painful for Notre Dame and why Indiana’s Coach Curt Cignetti is a bit of an asshole. (7:34) Then they transition to Dabo Swinney and Clemson’s matchup vs Texas. Is Clemson QB Cade Klubnik a system quarterback even though he had a monster year offensively? And why has Texas stopped scoring points, is it a Quinn Ewers problem or is it Steve Sarkisian’s fault? (14:54) The next game on the list is Penn State vs SMU, which has the guys asking just how many people will show up to that game? It’s going to be 25 degrees and state college is not easy to get to. (20:25) And finally the guys wrap the show by talking about the Jim Tressel documentary, the Woody Johnson news with Jerry Jeudy, and Bill Belichick’s new gig at UNC. (32:30)

Travonne Edwards on the NBA Cup Finals: Does Anyone Care About This? | 12.18

Bomani Jones is joined by Travonne Edwards to discuss all things NBA. The guys recap last nights NBA Cup Finals between the Bucks and the Thunder, and ask the simple question, does anyone care about this? Is $500k enough incentive for these players to play defense and care about winning the Cup? (5:55) Speaking of caring, did the Thunder even care about the game because the amount of 3-pointers they missed makes it seems otherwise. (17:20) Then the guys have a conversation around why we need to make defense and mid-range shots cool again. Do we need more personalities like Dillon Brooks and Patrick Beverley to help increase the intensity on that side of the court? (22:10) And finally with the ratings for the league free falling, the guys try and think of solutions for the future of the NBA with a league not involving LeBron and Steph. (31:27)

Travis Hunter Wins the Heisman and Week 15 NFL Recap: Lions Lose and Bills Are For Real | 12.16

On today's episode of The Right Time, Bomani Jones recaps everything that happened this weekend in College Football with the Heisman Trophy celebration and in Week 15 of the NFL. But first, Bomani starts the show by calling out some of the Lions haters in the live chat. (1:00) That leads to Bomani breaking down that matchup against the Buffalo Bills, especially all the injuries the Lions came away with following that game. Will the Lions be able to overcome them or will it be a tough postseason journey for the Honolulu Blue? Then Bomani gives flowers to Josh Allen who might have locked up the MVP award after his performance. (2:20) He also praises the Eagles for their win but highlights Jalen Hurts and AJ Brown who called out the media after their win, even though the issue was clearly between the two of them. (10:06) After briefly discussing the Chiefs, who despite their victory might be in some big trouble with the injury to Patrick Mahomes, (15:50) Bomani finally gets to Travis Hunter winning the Heisman Trophy. Bomani explains why it was most definitely the correct choice because of everything he did this season on both sides of the field but also if you voted for Ashton Jeanty it was fine. Now while we should be celebrating Travis Hunter, the drama surrounding him and his girlfriend following the events of the this weekend have overshadowed an iconic performance on the field. Bomani gives Travis prudent advice and wishes him good luck as he navigates this portion of his life. (18:29) And as always, we wrap the show with a round of If You Haven't Heard stories and your voicemail stories about the time you were shocked to meet a friends significant other. (36:14)

Tyler “DragonflyJonez” talks Jamie Foxx Netflix Special, NFL on Christmas Day, and Bill Belichick’s New Job | 12.13

On today’s episode, Bomani Jones is joined by Tyler “DragonflyJonez” co-host of the “Jenkins and Jones” podcast, to talk through a variety of topics in sports and culture. Off the jump, Bomani asks Tyler his thoughts on Jamie Foxx’s new stand up special on Netflix. Tyler said he was impressed with the talent of Jamie Foxx but the stand up fell a little flat, whereas Bomani thought it was objectively not good. (1:25) They dig deeper on the special, talk about going to church, why neither of them tap into Netflix that much, and why some people still have AOL email accounts. (8:37) Speaking of Netflix, the guys discuss the news of Mariah Carey performing for the NFL on Christmas Day along with Beyoncé. Is this officially the end of the NBA on Christmas Day? (21:30) Then after a brief discussion about the Commanders, Lions, and Saquon Barkley, the guys end the show by discussing Bill Belichick’s new job as head coach of the University of North Carolina. (33:45)

Andrew Whitworth on ’2001 LSU Team, NIL Money, Rams, Bengals, and More | 12.11

Bomani Jones is joined by former NFL lineman Andrew Whitworth, co-host of the Fitz & Whit podcast with Ryan Fitzpatrick, to discuss all things football. But first, Bomani starts the show by asking Whit about his podcast with Fitz and whether or not he’s enjoying his new life on TV every week. (1:30) Then Bomani transitions to the 2001 LSU team which somehow has a ton of players from that roster currently on TV, including head coach Nick Saban. (5:40) After hearing some great Nick Saban stories from Whit, Bomani asks him what the biggest difference is from playing college football back then to now. Whit explains that the NIL money is the big one and why it’s hard for him to even give advice to younger players in college football now, because it’s so different from when he played. (10:55) From there Bomani brings up the Los Angeles Rams to discuss their season to date and why they both think the Rams can make a sneaky push into the postseason. (18:17) Then following the break, they discuss another one of Whit’s former teams, the Cincinnati Bengals. Whit shares his love of Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase, but also explains some of the big problems they had this season. (29:04) And finally, the guys talk about the renaissance of throwback wide receivers, Whit’s thoughts on the Lions and Bills, and why the Steelers this season might be the real deal. (36:40)

Week 14 NFL Recap: Salty Wide Receivers and Why the College Football Playoffs is Broken | 12.9

On today's episode, Bomani Jones breaks down Week 14 in the NFL by looking at the teams with the salty wide receivers. He starts in New York where the Giants and the Jets both continue to lose games this season. We hear from Garrett Wilson who says the team currently has losing in their DNA, and Malik Nabers who expertly answers a question about the Giants being a dumpster fire. (1:08) After hearing from AJ Brown who is somehow salty even after the Eagles won this Sunday, we transition to the Bills, who despite their loss to the Rams, saw an iconic 6 touchdown performance from MVP frontrunner Josh Allen. (14:17) Then Bomani gets to the announcement of this years College Football Playoffs, which according to Bo, is a broken system that is designed to never properly determine the best team in college football. He explains yet again that this is just a product to enhance a TV show and that the sport will never get better from this bracket. (20:02) And finally, another round of If You Haven't Heard stories and your voicemails on the whackest Christmas presents you've ever received. (38:27)

Foxworth Friday: UnitedHealthcare CEO, Jameis Winston, and Hunter Biden | 12.6

Bomani Jones is joined by Domonique Foxworth for another edition of Foxworth Friday. On today’s episode, the guys start off by talking about Christmas after Domonique sees Bomani’s festive Christmas hat. (0:30) After discussing the cold weather, which could be a big variable for College Football and the NFL playoffs (4:24), the guys transition to the news of the United Healthcare CEO who was murdered in NYC this past week. They breakdown the details of the assassination and how it sounded like hit job from aa movie. That inevitably leads to a conversation about health care, capitalism, and market economies in 2024. (8:54) After the break, the guys come back to have a discussion about Jameis Winston who has been pure comedy the last few weeks. What in the hell is going on with that man?! (28:00) From there they talk about other assassinations involving celebrities like Tupac and Biggie, and also bring up Joe and Hunter Biden and whether or not you would pardon your own son. (38:05) And finally, Bomani asks Domonique why he prefers the Eagles vs the Lions when it comes to the Super Bowl contender for the NFC. (53:20)

The Kid Mero on Kendrick Lamar’s ‘GNX’, Drake’s Lawsuit, and the New York Knicks | 12.4

Bomani Jones is joined by The Kid Mero, co-host of ‘7pm in Brooklyn’ and the Victory Light podcast, to discuss all things Kendrick Lamar vs Drake. The guys talk about how they both think the album is mid, which is not a bad thing, because society does not know the true definition of mid. Mid is not a diss! (0:40) They breakdown Kendrick’s upcoming Super Bowl performance and how he’ll have to adjust some of the lyrics for the national audience even with Jay-Z helming the halftime show performances. (4:57) Bomani brings up ‘GNX’ again and the fact that there weren’t any Drake references in the record. It’s ultimately a good thing since Drake lawsuit is the ultimate L. How does Drake move on from here and how should he change the way he moves in terms of this beef. Then Bomani compares Drake to an iconic twitter moment which has Mero losing it. (10:20) Finally after a brief discussion about the New York Knicks (36:25), the guys have a conversation about youth sports and some of the famous kids Mero’s son plays football with. (44:25)

A Weekend of Flag Planting in College Football and NFL Week 13 Recap, Plus IYHH and Voicemails | 12.2

In today's episode, Bomani Jones recaps everything that went down this weekend in College Football and the NFL. He starts the show by sharing his frustration with the current Thanksgiving week schedule in the NFL. Having the Thursday games, along with the Friday game, completely devalues the Sunday slate. (0:50) That leads Bo to breakdown the one good game on Sunday; Bengals vs Steelers, where we have two teams going in completely different directions this season. (4:30) Then Bomani discusses the Bills and the Ravens which includes a conversation about the MVP Award. The Bills beat up the 49ers with Josh Allen winning the game for his team, while the Ravens lost to the Eagles and Lamar Jackson was not at his best. Lamar wasn't the reason his team won or lost but at some point this season you have to be the reason either way. (6:08) From there, Bomani finally transitions to this wild weekend in College Football that involved way too many flags being planted. His take stands firm on the idea of outlawing Flag Planting because it leads to fighting. And if fighting is allowed, then flag planting is cool but this weekend showed that whenever an opposing team plants a flag, it automatically leads to a fight. It's the height of disrespect, and disrespect will not be tolerated. (17:33) And finally, another round of If You Haven't Heard stories and Bomani answers three voicemail questions about anything. (37:56)

Bomani Jones is joined by Joel Anderson, of The Ringer, who starts the show by revisiting the “greatest Texas athlete you’ve ever seen in person” question from an earlier episode. Then Bomani reveals he’s been saving a topic for Joel, why is Ne-Yo is the Big-12 Championship Game halftime performer? The guys wonder if there was literally anyone else who was available to perform. With the news of Joe Douglas getting fired, Bomani and Joel have a conversation about Aaron Rodgers and Jet’s owner Woody Johnson. The guys wonder whether or not Tyrod Taylor should replace Rodgers and also if Woody Johnson is actually good at anything? And finally, the guys reflect on the 20th Anniversary of the Malice at the Palace. Where were they when it happened and how has their reaction to it changed from then to now?
