I know I'm still horribly behind on the monthly mixes here on Podomatic (you can stream the newer ones on Mixcloud ;-) but figured it made sense for the holiday season to jump ahead and post my "A Soul Shack Christmas (aka "Christmas Cocktails 2024)" mix, so it can be enjoyed over the holidays.

I really didn't think I was going to be able to make a 2024 edition, but determined, I found a way! I recorded about 2hrs in my headphones on a 2nd setup during dinner at Alexie's winter formal Thursday night, then about 1.5hrs of the mix that I knew I could get away with at my gig at STK Friday night, then Saturday morning recorded the other hour or so, and then put it all together!

Knowing I wasn't recording it live, this one musically is more like a "Soul Shack Christmas" really and is definitely more for people my age (so much retro!). I'm really happy with this year's edition, but listen for yourself.

I truly hope this mix bring a little extra joy to your holidays, soundtracks special moments with friends & family and I hope you all stay healthy & safe this holiday season.

My apologies, I've really neglected updating the podomatic page, despite being current over on Mixcloud.

Back in April I knew I was going to record a "so this is 50" mix for my birthday at the end of the month in Miami, but I wouldn't be able to post it in time for April. I was pretty happy with my set that Friday at Kasa Moto, so I figured I'd use it for April. It's a nice mix of new and old house music, some nu-disco, some mainstream remixes, some disco mashups...an eclectic mix playing for a resto-lounge crowd, so keeping it familiar and vibey. Here is my annual lounge music recap from the past year. Usually it's the February mix, but this year I'm a month behind because the 18yr Anniversary mix got pushed to January, and the house recap became February. Anyway, this is all the non-house stuff, filled with nudisco, daytime disco, amapiano, kaytranada type beats, retro remixes, boogie edits, rn'b, hip hop...all the good stuff (and then some "end of the night" vibes to finish it off). Not all necessarily released in 2023, but I discovered the songs in 2023.

So fix yourself a drink, sit back and enjoy the vibes (or lets be real, throw it on in the background while working or doing your household chores lol!)

Sorry for the delay in posting, I kept missing my window to upload a new mix before I went over my bandwidth limit, but here it is, the return of the very popular "Saturday Afternoon Edition" from the Cottage Mix Series. This mix was recorded live at the Thursday Ladies Night residency I was doing and it's pure retro nostalgia for the grown folks! (There's even a little freestyle set snuck in with some of my favourites)

I'm bringing back the Cottage Mix Series for 2023! July (it was posted earlier on Mixcloud) is the Friday Night Edition, recorded live at a "Retro Attic" party, where all of the song selections had to be at least 10 years old, so nothing but throwbacks! Recording it live at a gig like this I had to keep it pretty mainstream, so no obscure gems here, but definitely some guilty pleasures lol! (Next up will be a new Saturday Afternoon edition which is already available on Mixcloud, and then there will be a Saturday Night Edition, a Sunday Morning Edition and a new Summer Home in Mykonos Edition too!)

So back in the winter when places finally started opening up again, I recorded a 2022 Bar Promo mix, thinking I'd use it to try and get some gigs...and then got so busy that I never gave it to any venues! It's a great mix, so I figured I should use it as a Soul Shack mix before the year ends! Here's the full live recording with the "first half of the night" being a mix of funk, soul, retro, hip hop, rn'b, indie alternative, lots of blends and reworks...a real mixed bag, and the 2nd half being more of a "party" mix of house, amapiano, throwbacks, hip hop, lots of blends and reworks too. So April 2020 at the start of Covid I got nostalgic and recorded a 90's (isolating in the) house mix. A year later Ontario was going into yet another 4 week lockdown and I got nostalgic again, posting a hip hop from my twenties mix. This year I figured I'd keep with this new tradition of nostalgia for April and am posting a Throwback rn'b mix! This mix is more mainstream than my usual more "neo soul" rn'b vibes, inspired heavily by a wedding I had recently dj'd, where the grooms wanted throwback rn'b during dinner. So last April I got nostalgic and recorded a 90's (isolating in the) house mix. A year later Ontario is going into our latest 4 week lockdown and I'm getting nostalgic again, but this time for the hip hop from my twenties. There will be a second "street" edition, but part one here is (for lack of a better word) more of the "backpack" stuff. Still boom bap, but not the street, club or radio stuff... this is the jazz sampling more underground stuff. I had to put #Dilla on the artwork because his productions are all over this mix!
