Cardiac arrest in the prehospital setting continues to be a critical area of focus for EMS clinicians, especially when it comes to measuring ventilation and perfusion. In this episode, we’ll do a deep dive on new research investigating the role of end tidal carbon dioxide (ETCO2) as a potential indicator of survival in out-of-hospital cardiac arrests. The study looks at how both high and low ETCO2 levels affect mortality and why these numbers alone may not be enough to guide resuscitation decisions. Stick around for all the insights!

A Tribute to Brooke Lerner PhD

With the dawn of a new year, we all know that the 2024 NAEMSP Conference is approaching.  While we are excited to see friends and colleagues from afar, we must acknowledge the void of someone who contributed so much to prehospital medicine, Dr. Brooke Lerner.  Dr. Lerner was a prolific researcher, passionate paramedic, and dedicated wife and mother.  While we at the PEC Podcast recognize her professional efforts, we feel that a proper farewell should be spoken by those who knew her.
