THE BATTLE OF BEECHER'S ISLAND (PT 2): THE SEIGE AND RESCUE

For days Forsyth's men laid in their shallow holes trying not to get shot, but the doctor was hit badly, Beecher was dying, and qa half dozen others were either dead of wounded, including Forsyth, who was still commanding his men. They had sent scouts but it was 100 miles to the nearest post and the chances the scouts would make it through the Indians was minimal.  The rations were gone, and the only option after 4 days was rotting horse meat. Death was staring them in the face. This is their story.

BEST OF (#32 OF 501) CASABLANCA: THE INCREDIBLE STORY BEHIND THE MAKING OF THE GREATEST MOVIE EVER MADE

This episode tells the story-behind-the story regarding the making of the movie that many critics claim is the greatest movie ever made, including the fact that the movie was filmed while WWII was raging and that many of the people involved in the making of the movie had escaped from Nazi-dominated Europe and had yet to loose family members in German concentration camps. The cast, the creators, and the story outlining the importance of Casablanca as vital link for escaping refugees, are brought to light here, along with movie gaffs listed at the end. For appropriate ages studying World War II, this episode combined with a viewing of the movie, would make an excellent prelude to studies of 1941-1943. This episode briefly and simply explains France's occupation by Germany and its political division between the Vichy Government (pro-Nazi) and the French Resistance government under DeGaulle, drawing similarities between this division and that of America during their revolution. Listen to this episode just before watching the movie and you'll enjoy Casablanca 100% more.

THE INCREDIBLE TRUE STORY BEHIND MADAME TUSSAUDS WAX MUSEUM

Millions of people enjoy visiting Madame Tussauds Wax Museums each year, but only a very few know the macabre history behind the first one that opened in London in 1831, containing the death masks and wax figures of actual victims of the French Revolution on 1789-1793- which were made by a 20 year old young lady named Anna Marie Grosholtz who had trained to be an artist and sculptor of wax and worked in the employ of her uncle at his shop in Paris.  Through that work she became close with the sister of the King, and when the revolution broke out she was sent to prison- soon to be released with the agreement that she would provide death masks and lifelike wax figures of the often royal victims of the guillotine including Marie Antionette, Robespeirre, and many others. She later parlayed her horrific experience into a business which has lasted to this day.

BEST OF (#29 of 495) HIMMLER'S BLACK CASTLE AND THE LEGEND OF THE SS DEATH RINGS

Heinrich Himmler, second in command only to Adolph Hitler, rebuilt Castle Wewelsburg (pronounced VIVES-BORK) in Germany to house special meetings which included all types of idol worship and satanic rituals for his SS commanders, to which he gave Death's Head rings to symbolize their lifelong devotion to the Nazi party. The castle served as a training academy for new SS, where they were steeped in Himmler's own view of Aryan history, a center for exploration and archeology that supported his theories of a master race, and a laboratory for engineering study of a crashed UFO which was brought there for study., and from which the Nazi's developed a flying saucer.  Over 11,500 "death rings" were returned to Himmler, who hid them prior to the end of the war, one legend being that he buried them in a crypt below the castle.
