Michael Fierman's Podcast

Michael Fierman

This is the perfect venue for me to share my non dance music along with the performances one expects of me. I have a wide and eclectic range of style which no doubt my followers have heard many a time when I will try to merge some of my early influences into a dance party. I have played such diversities as Mahler, Joni Mitchell and The Doors at Black Parties. Since the late 80's I started making short 75-90 minute pieces of abstract, themed acoustic music and to this day those little music projects are my most treasured creative outlets. I have begun sharing a few of them here. I hope you will take time to give them a listen as well as my dance parties

    Crucible
The world has been shrouded in darkness for months and now our country is in a state of shock and anger over the events of the last week. Anger at injustice, hate, and the utter lack of empathy, common decency and compassion coming from Trump. I had been paralyzed from a creative point of view to be able to express how I have been feeling up until now. I have done my best here to express rage, ask questions, calls for action, pleas for hope and mercy, and ultimately I tried to inspire us to move forward.

SLEAZEBALL NYC - The First Set
There was an expression I used for that time at all those fantastical parties at Roseland between say 7am and closing that I called "the rarified atmosphere". The frenzy was over and now the masses on the dance floor and I settled into a long sexy groove that undulated in waves and moments..where everyone was onboard for what we all call The Trip. It wasn't just called morning music, it wasn't just called sleaze....it had just as many elements of peak. Everyone on the floor was just "there". I think you all know what I mean. The producers of Evolution Of A Dancer and Yuki Productions have created a new party called Sleazeball NYC that is all about being in that long moment of sexiness- this is the first set of the ten hour party.

The RITES Of Style Part Two - Valves And Smoke
The RITES Of Style Part Two - Valves And Smoke The Black Party™ for me was always a venue where one could stretch my boundaries of musical imagination and take my dance floor on a trip of the magical and the unexpected. A place where drama meshed with spiritual togetherness between me and the dancers. I decided to make a two part musical piece this year that would encapsulate my take on my concept of RITES. These two musical movements are not necessarily meant to represent what I would have played, but more as what Michael Fierman's vision of the modern Rites Of Spring could be. This set begins with a set piece, The Jungle Line by Joni Mitchell interpreted by Herbie Hancock and Leonard Cohen. It will lead you down into the mists of my final set, Valves And Smoke. These are The RITES Of Style

The RITES Of Style Part One - Ritual Of Sound And Time
Ritual Of Sound And Time The Black Party™ for me was always a venue where one could stretch my boundaries of musical imagination and take my dance floor on a trip of the magical and the unexpected. Many of my thoughts are contained in the opening production number I constructed in Part One - Ritual Of Sound And Time. The speaker talks about style. These are The RITES Of Style
