An Anthem of The Journey of TBI with Lindy Boone
Lindy Boone is the second of four daughters to legendary singer and entertainer Pat Boone and Shirley (Foley) Boone. She has worked in the fitness industry as a group fitness instructor and personal trainer for 25 years. She currently resides in Southern California with her husband of 38 years, attorney Mike Michaelis. She has three adult children: Ryan, Jessica, and Tyler. In 2001, her son Ryan Corbin stepped through a skylight and fell three stories onto a cement floor. Because of this, he had TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) and was expected not to survive. However, through the miracle of faith and prayers, Ryan did survive, and Lindy uses her platform to speak on TBI. Since Ryan's fall, Boone has learned a great deal about traumatic brain injury and has come to a new understanding of the faithfulness of God and the power of our words during times of deepest needs. In 2003, the Boone family established a non-profit in Ryan’s name called Ryan’s Reach to help survivors of brain injury and their families and has been providing funds for TBI survivors to receive therapy ever since. The charity has also opened two homes to provide care exclusively for brain injury survivors. 7 years a journey with Barb Dixon
Barb Dixon, at the time of her head injury was a stay at home mom and professional freelance makeup artist. In May 2016 at the age of 38 she incurred her injury in an unexpected way, a wheelbarrow that was hung up in her garage, fell striking her on the top of her head with the motion of a hammer strike. Knocked unconscious for an unknown period of time before coming to, crawling into the house was all she could manage. She didn’t know it then but that moment would stretch into 7 years of recovery. Barb suffered with PCS and the psychological, physical, mental, and emotional turmoil that PCS entails as well as late diagnosed PTSD. She had to, once again in her life be her own champion and advocate. With the support of her loving family and with dogged determination while enduring a long list of impairments, Barb continued to seek answers and find the help that no one seemed to have for her, and she did. Her journey is, as we know with brain injury recovery, a constant work in progress. Now that she is well through the darkest valleys of her PCS recovery, she wants to share her story with others who find themselves where she once was. Her hope is to offer validation and compassion to those who are still in the thick of it.  If you're enjoying this podcast, please consider supporting it for just $5 through www.buymeacoffee.com/amyz
