In this episode, we uncover the science behind what happens when you drink and how it impacts your fitness goals. But it’s not all bad news! This episode is packed with simple, actionable tips to minimize the damage while still enjoying a drink or two. Learn how adjusting your meal timing, stopping alcohol consumption earlier in the evening, and making smarter drink choices can help you stay on track with your fat loss and fitness goals. 275: Poison Free Food and Mindset Ft. Justin Nault

What if the secret to lasting health isn't about counting calories or following the latest diet trend, but about doing a few simple things consistently every day?

In this episode, I chat with Justin Nault, a biochemist and nutritionist, about why getting healthy doesn’t have to be complicated. Justin shares his personal story of overcoming insecurity and learning to focus on what really matters: simple, practical steps for better health.

We talk about how toxins in food and our environment can impact our health and why going back to basics -like eating real, whole foods- can make a big difference. Justin shares the story of his niece, whose health struggles led him to uncover how processed foods, bad science, and misleading marketing have shaped what we eat.

But it’s not just about food. We also dig into emotional health and how practices like breathwork, Jiu-Jitsu, and even letting yourself feel anger can help you connect with yourself. Justin explains how Jiu-Jitsu has taught him not only about fitness but also about trust and emotional growth.

    Key Takeaways:

    -       Start with the basics: eat whole, single-ingredient foods.

    -       Processed foods like seed oils became common due to marketing and flawed science.

    -       Many chronic health issues come from long-term exposure to harmful substances.

What if your food allergies are trying to tell you something? What if those reactions were actually clues about what your body needs to heal?

In this episode, I talk with Dr. Alexis Sams about a fresh way to understand food allergies and intolerances. She explains how these reactions might be signs of deeper issues in your body, like trouble managing acids or breaking down certain nutrients. Instead of just avoiding foods forever, she helps her clients dig into what’s causing the reactions in the first place.

We explore how things like peanut allergies, workout struggles, or even cold sores can point to underlying health problems. Dr. Sams also shares a quiz she created to help you discover your biggest “food clue” and take the first step toward solving the puzzle.

    -       Addressing the root causes of food reactions can help rebuild tolerance and improve overall health.

    -       Acid imbalance or nutrient breakdown can be underlying causes of common food reactions.

271: Sleep Your Way to Success with Mouth Tape Ft. Alex Neist

Struggling with sleep apnea or snoring? Learn how a simple technique can improve your sleep quality and reduce disruptive noises.

I had a conversation with Alex Neist, the founder of Hostage Tape. He shared his personal journey with nasal breathing and mouth taping. He explained how it can improve sleep quality, reduce snoring, and boost energy levels. Intrigued by his experience, I decided to give it a try.

Like many others, I was a mouth breather. This can lead to various health issues, including sleep apnea and snoring. Nasal breathing, on the other hand, is more natural and offers many benefits. It filters the air, humidifies it, and can even boost our immune system. Mouth taping is a simple technique that can help us retrain our bodies to breathe through our nose.

    Key Takeaways:

    • Consider consulting with a healthcare professional for personalized advice.

    • Mouth breathing can have negative health consequences

    • It's important to be mindful of our breathing habits throughout the day, especially during sleep.

    Resources:

Alex Neist is an entrepreneur, health advocate, and former professional quarterback. Known for his resilience and problem-solving mindset, Neist's personal journey with sleep issues and snoring sparked his entrepreneurial spirit. His commitment to finding effective solutions to health challenges led him to create Hostage Tape, a product that aims to improve sleep quality by addressing the issue of mouth breathing.

    270. How I Talk to my Kids about Treats, Nutrition, & Balance

In today’s quick episode, I’m diving into how I approach the topic of treats with my kids. Instead of labeling foods as "good" or "bad," I focus on the idea of “nutritious vs. not nutritious” and help them understand the difference between “always foods” and “sometimes foods.” This perspective encourages balance without guilt, helping kids build a healthy relationship with food from a young age.

    Key Points

    • Nutritious vs. Not Nutritious: We talk about how certain foods fuel our bodies and help us grow, without using restrictive labels. It's about what helps us feel and perform our best!
    • Always Foods vs. Sometimes Foods: This concept keeps things balanced, so kids understand that while treats are okay, they’re not everyday choices. “Always” foods are for regular energy and growth, while “sometimes” foods are for occasional enjoyment.
    • Food as Fuel for Strength and Health: I explain to my kids how certain foods help them get stronger, faster, and healthier, making it relatable by talking about benefits they care about, like having more energy to play.
    • Leading by Example: Instead of only talking, I show my kids how I make balanced food choices. This way, they see moderation and balance in action – whether it’s choosing a healthy snack together or enjoying a treat in a mindful way.

Takeaway Creating a balanced perspective on food early on helps kids feel positive about their choices and sets them up for a healthy relationship with food for life. By using concepts like “always foods” and “sometimes foods,” we make room for treats without guilt and teach them the importance of nutritious choices in a fun, practical way.
