Mastering the art of ageing well
According to researcher Saul Justin Newmann, ‘The data on extreme human ageing is rotten from the inside out’.
We don’t think so Saul.
And either do the demographers who did the bulk of Blue Zones research. 5 of the world’s top demographers have come out and picked Newmann’s pre-print “research” to pieces. (Pre-print meaning this research has never been published; in other words unable to get pass the rigour of peer-reviewed research.)
Here’s the official reply from the Blue Zones researchers.
If you’re into this research, what this event has been able to uncover more than anything is that the data is rigorous around exceptional ageing.
And that is a beautiful thing for human beings.

The silly season is upon us and most people are turning into headless chooks – if they haven’t already put that hat on.
Whilst its easy to sit in our seats having experienced “Island time” in Europe for three weeks this year, these experiences help understand what it takes to slow down despite everyone else speeding up.
If you’re determined to enjoy – and live your life at a manageable pace that works for you – this episode will touch a chord.

When Hillary King-Sullivan joined us in Ikaria in 2016, she went home and decided to start walking to work instead of driving.
To this day she continues to walk to work, but noticed that she was beginning to make more and more excuses. The heat, the time, and so on.
So, what did she do? She sold her car!
Not only did she use some of those funds to join us in Sardinia, she recommitted to – and has added more movement – to her life since joining us in Sardinia.
No excuses, lots of insights, and as always, a lot of laughs!
Hillary joined us on 100 Not Out on Episode 198 and shared her backstory there.

Dr Natise Schalken joins us on this episode as the youngest member of our recent Longevity Experience in Sardinia.
A pediatric chiropractor and mother of a teenager, Natise joins us to discuss longevity in its many masks – not just for people 50 + – but for all of us.
Women – who are often marketed to “anti age” by way of removing wrinkles and injecting something into their body – definitely have it a lot tougher than men when it comes to navigating a path to age gracefully.
What has Natise learnt about getting older whilst with us in Ikaria and Sardinia? From gardening to food, exercise and lifestyle, it’s all on this intriguing chat with Natise.
Ready for 2025? Apply to join us in one or both European Blue Zones. All the details at www.100notout.com

Time spent in the kitchen and slowing down
Caregiving and the family dynamic in the modern age
Diets – when to go on them and when not to
Oils ain’t oils!
And so much more.
Like us, Jo also takes a group overseas each year – in the Italian Alps. You can find out all about it, as well as her incredible range of recipes and books at https://quirkycooking.com.au/.

Milk or no milk? Long black or espresso?
From casein and lactose in milk, to firm stools, loose stools, and the relevant chemical cocktail that a daily coffee can be – we chat about it all on this episode.
Having just returned from the European Blue Zones of Sardinia and Ikaria where we didn’t have any/many milky coffees, we talk about the “creep” of milk.
We also discuss WHEN is the best time to drink coffee, the role of added fat (MCT oils, etc and the rise of Bulletproof coffees), as well as the different tools you might consider in order to have the perfect coffee at home. From an Aeropress to a good ol’ percolator, it all gets a mention on today’s ep.

600 episodes!! Can you believe it! On this episode we say a little “Happy 600th” and then move on to some BIG chats discussing the beliefs that were smashed and broken to pieces during our recent trip to the European Blue Zones of Sardinia and Ikaria.
From wheat to medication, olive oil to wine, we discuss a number of different longevity topics that aren’t as simple as we may think.
Happy 600th to us – and thank YOU for your support of our message over almost 12 years!

Is there a next generation of Blue Zones?
Are the Blue Zones dying? Or will the next generation lead the way in how to master our longevity?
Join us at the dining table with the two people who we believe have made the Blue Zone of Ikaria is well-regarded as it is – Thea and Athina. Athina is the chef responsible for bringing Ikaria’s food to international acclaim.
But it’s actually the younger brigade who steal the show on this podcast. Giannis, Catarina and Dino join Thea and Athina (and a cameo by Thea’s husband Ilias). We talk nutrition and longevity, but we also talk purpose and fulfilment, love and family, and we do so with ages ranging from 21 to 81.
So hold tight, skip forward 15 seconds here and there is the Greek translation bamboozles you, and enjoy this beautiful conversation held under the stars on a beautiful night in Ikaria.
Is Ikaria calling you in 2025? If so, find out all the details at 100notout.com
Following on from episode 596, Damo and Marcus pick up on their conversation on family and friends and the different energy they bring to our own relationships.
Is it a lovers tiff or a robust discussion where they agree to disagree?! Tune in to find out more!
You can read the article – 7 Types of Love and What they Mean – referred to in the episode here.
