If you like exciting action-packed airshows that give back to the local community you will love the Florida International Airshow in Punta Gorda Florida. Today I am speaking with Denise Dull, President of the airshow who has led a team to help grow into one of the best air shows in the United States. We will discuss the challenges and keys to success in creating, growing, and continuing the legacy of an airshow.
UPDATE: In light of the significant impacts of Hurricane Milton and Hurricane Helene on the community, the organizers have decided to cancel the 43rd Annual Florida International Air Show. The dual hurricanes have caused widespread damage and disruption across the region, making it impractical to proceed with the event.

What is The Florida International Airshow and What can we expect?
How it’s important to build the right show on the ground & in the air (this year’s non-jet team show revenue will be needed to help fund the costs of next year’s show but ticket purchasers are saying they will wait for the Blues…that actually hurts us)
Building strategic community partnerships. Our new Charlotte Community Foundation partnership is funding the expansion of our Earn Your Wings reading program into Middle Schools and our new Innovators STEM Pavilion & Family Aviation Experience area
What is the Presidents Club?
Trying to work harder – reviewing costs of a growing show while losing funding….huge hurdle and building additional/nontraditional revenue streams
Losing the majority of our Board experience in one year and trying to develop new depth and sustainability while preparing for major shows and juggling airport expansion & airline challenges

March 7 2023 a low-wing piper and a high-wing piper on floats collided killing a flight instructor and student pilot in both planes. This accident was especially tragic for me since the instructor of the low-wing Piper, Faith, was one of the members of the flight team I coached.
In today’s episode, we will discuss collision avoidance tips and tricks to prevent such a tragic accident from happening again. I am also recording this because I promised Faith’s Mom I would do everything I could to help promote good collision avoidance practices. So here are our collision avoidance tips and tricks.

It was after midnight and the lights of New York City could be seen from miles away as we flew over Republic Field on Long Island New York on our way to White Plains. I could make out the airport many miles away and the winds were calm. I caught myself saying “What could go wrong on this perfect night”. I wish I didn’t say that.
In the flare to touchdown, I noticed things getting dark out of the corner of my eye. That is when I realized the time set for the lights had finished and I clicked the mic 7 times making the airport “come alive” again.
This made me think about how infrequently many of us fly to non-towered fields and how we should review the procedures to know what to say and how to turn the lights on.
