The Twelve Shows Of Richard Herring

Comedy.co.uk

Richard Herring is taking on the probably slightly crazy challenge of performing all 11 of his old one-man shows, plus a brand new one at the Leicester Square Theatre over six weekends starting on the 7th August. In this podcast he will be documenting the experience, reminiscing about each show, plus giving an honest assessment of how his performances are going.

TSORH #13 - Mars Bars? It's the final show and it's maybe the toughest of the whole challenge, a brand new hour of stand-up. Has Rich managed to write enough whilst simultaneously learning another eleven 90+ minute shows? Will it be a triumph or a disaster? The theatre is packed with people here to find out. Richard is joined by the sexcrement that inspired the show, as he looks forwards and backwards over his career. With a bonus FREE 40 minutes of stand-up that got cut from the rest of the show and his summation of how the project has gone, this is a big bonus ending to the series. Thanks for your support over this crazy month and a bit.

TSORH #12 - Anal Flute. We're nearly there and when I say we, I mean I. It's the last of the old shows in the Herring's Dozen, Lord of the Dance Settee, with a surprise guest and a big celebrity film star in the dressing room afterwards. Rich is feeling vaguely confident about this show as he only performed it a few weeks ago, but terrified about the new show tomorrow. There's a chance to hear the 'arse like that' routine that you may have missed as it got dropped from most tour shows, as well as the final chart of sales, plus George the incompetent sound man's controversial opinions on Robin Williams.

TSORH #11 - Wriggling and Wiggling and Copulating Inside Her. Somehow we've got through to show 10 of the run unscathed. Richard is nervous about another unexpectedly complex show, We're All Going To Die! Will this be where he stumbles and falls? Will he actually die on stage? Hear his pre and post match analysis, plus an airborne stage invasion at a weirdly apt time. Herring also looks forward to the last two remaining shows, Lord of the Dance Settee and the as yet, not entirely written, Happy Now?

TSORH #10 - Vaginal Frubes. It's Richard's personal favourite show, but after a week of catching crabs in Suffolk he has not done as much work as usual. Will he be able to remember this relatively recent show? Cos he gets the title wrong in the pre-match interview. More blubbing, more career and life analysis, what it's like ageing 15 years in six weeks, and the power of love causes a bit of a light to fall over backstage. What more could you want? TSORH #9 - Heil Herring. It's show 8, unbelievably, and time for Richard to shave down (surely for the last time - in public) to the Herring Moustache (as it never ended up being called). Find out how he failed to get a photo with Charlie Chaplin, how the ghost of the moustache haunted him on his way home and listen to his first major crisis in the run so far, where he totally forgot where he was and seemingly had no way back. Mortifying for me, but probably amusing for me. Find out the latest sales league table and how to get copies of the remaining show programmes. TSORH #8 - Something That Never Happened to Someone Who Didn't Exist. It's Show 7 of the 12 show run and the start of maybe the trickiest weekend, with two shows full of tricky monologues and packed with ideas, but up first perhaps the sweetest of the all Richard's shows (apart from the bit where he imagines wanking off sex offenders), The Headmaster's Son. It's an emotional show for him and seems to have become moreso over the last seven years and he feels the least prepared for this performance, so can it go off with a bang and without actual tears? Audiophiles can hear an interesting backstage conversation about mono, but for the non-perverted listenership there's plenty of background about the show and the performance whether the 'tiny hands' routine should have been included. As well as the power of undercutting comedy with something serious or emotional. Plus the first, mildly shaky minutes of the show - you can buy the first 10 performances on audio (or the DVDs of the original shows) at http://www.gofasterstripe.com

    Episode 7
TSORH #7 - The Average-Sized Penis Comedian. Unbelievably Richard has made it to the halfway point of this marathon of shows without losing his mind or messing anything up in a major fashion. He's up to 2007, when he's just turned 40 and his life is in turmoil as he yearns for a settled life, but continues to get drunk and go to bed with strangers. Hear about his run in with the drag act that follows his show, plus his appraisal of the performance and - with staggering generosity - he also includes the entire 'average-sized penis' routine. You can listen to the full show (plus all of the first 10 of the run) by paying a tiny amount of money (£12 for 15 hours of comedy) at www.gofasterstripe.com. Or just listen to this for free. Richard also briefly looks forwards to the next two shows, The Headmaster's Son and Hitler Moustache. Buy tickets here: https://leicestersquaretheatre.ticketsolve.com/shows/873527351

TSORH #6 - Pass Me Another Cardie. Five twelfths of the way in and Richard discusses his performance of the 2006 show menage a un, whilst remaining quite surprised that things are going so well. Hear the chart of which shows are selling the most tickets, plus clips including the complete remix of the two old men on the bonfire. TSORH #5 - Metal Mickey. Richard dissects his performance of Someone Likes Yoghurt and reflects on changing tastes in comedy and whether his on stage persona was well-defined enough, as well as enjoying the way that once obscure references become almost totally lost after another ten years. You can hear a bit of the Rudyard Kipling routine and Richard's pre and post show analysis (slightly rushed as the show had over run), plus he looks forward to his difficult mid-life crisis shows menage a un and Oh F*ck, I'm 40. He is also looking after his baby during this podcast. Sorry if that annoys you. TSORH #4 - Polish/Mexican Restaurant With Karen. Richard takes you through then nerve-wracking time ahead of and during his (possibly) trickiest show in the 12 show run, 'The Twelve Tasks of Hercules' explaining how this week it transformed from one of his least favourite of his own shows, to one he respected and enjoyed. Share the lows of a failing powerpoint presentation and the highs of successful memory skills. You can download the entire show (as well as most of the shows in the run) on audio at www.gofasterstripe.com and view the lost videos at www.youtube.com/herring1967.
