Building Breweries: A Beer Podcast is an interview-based podcast about the beer industry's leaders, their stories, and the issues that they face.
What do one of Louisville’s oldest breweries, Great Flood Brewing, and one of Carmel Indiana’s finest breweries have in common? They both have had the pleasure of this week's guest, Mike Abel, (Head Brewer, Fork + Ale House, Cellarman, Ash & Elm) gracing their taprooms. Known for his quick wit and unquenchable thirst for beer knowledge Mike has built a thriving career across multiple cities. In this conversation we discuss current trends in beer and cider, how to plan a day trip in #Indy, and some interesting topics in health and music! It was an absolute pleasure having Mike on the show and we hope that you enjoy this conversation as much as we did.
Make sure to go and try all of Mike's great beers next time you are up Carmel way. (https://forkalehouse.com/)

After drinking all the Louisville Beer during Louisville Beer Week, the guys were incredibly excited to take a “booch’ break” this episode with the incredible duo that is Corey and Danielle Wood, owners and founders of Elixir Kombucha.
We got the rundown on their recent growth into their new production home, the story of how Corey’s kombucha-loving aunt launched them on their journey, and got very up close and personal with a big chunk of actual SCOBY skin (stay tuned to the end for tasting notes…yeah), and even helped Elixir up its brand game with the selection of the new OFFICIAL Elixir mascot.

Extra, extra! KY Commons Podcast Welcomes Award-Winning Journalist Olivia Krauth.
This week, the guys are honored to welcome Olivia Krauth, Kentucky Education & Politics reporter, to the show ahead of Kentucky's gubernatorial election in November. Olivia has been breaking and breaking down Kentucky news for years now. It was fascinating to get her take on how the news happens.
In addition to journalism, Olivia has a passion for Russian Lit and Taylor Swift, so we put her to the test with a little game. Can she pull off a perfect score?
Big thanks to Olivia for coming on the show to share, and if YOU have her award, do the right thing.

This week was an incredibly special episode for us as we got to sit down with two exceptional people from one of our absolute favorite companies, White Labs Yeast. Pablo Gomez, Technical Account Manager, and Devin Tani, Technical Education Coordinator, join the show to tell us what got them into the wild world of yeast & share how White Labs has built and continues to grow a “culture” of quality and innovation.
They also guide us through a very illuminating yeast-off side-by-side tasting and share the details on a few of their new products that continue to push the boundaries of brewing, at home and on an industrial scale.
We hope you enjoy this conversation as much as we did, and we can’t wait to pay them another visit.
PRO TIP: Eat their pizza & don’t sleep on the Kimchi fries.

This week we welcome a veteran of the Louisville beer scene, Vince Cain, co-founder and former co-owner of Great Flood Brewing, and Owner of Right Mind Consulting. We also welcome guest host Alex Vogt (owner, Awry Brewing).
Vince, with his other partners, opened Great Flood all the way back in 2013 and kicked off the second wave of growth in Louisville’s modern brewery scene. In his many years building the business of Great Flood, and in his current work as a consultant to non-profits and small businesses, Vince has truly seen it all. It was a truly great opportunity to get to sit down and get Vince’s perspective on how Louisville beer has grown and evolved over the last ten years.
We also put his business acumen to the test and let him invest David’s life savings in our Shark Tank spin-off: “Bright Tank.”

Have you felt it? That subtle shift in the air hinting at the first taste of fall? We have, and this week we are incredibly excited to embrace it by welcoming Katie Jo Glesing to the show. Katie is the Founder (and possible Physic Vampire) of Boo812: Paranormal Research and Edutainment.
Katie embraces her affinity for all things Woo to explore beyond the veil with fellow researchers and individuals all across Kentucky and Indiana. It was absolutely fascinating to hear her story, learn more about local lore, and the current state of paranormal research as it receives increasingly more mainstream acceptance.
We also hook each other up to Katie's spirit box and try some channeling of the spirits in the shop, as well as “Choose our own Adventure” with the help of a ghost in the machine.
Welcome to the fall, y'all.
