The Creative Career Potential of Nurse Content Creators

On episode 468 of The Nurse Keith Show nursing and healthcare career podcast, Keith interviews Annie Fulton, BSN, RN, PCCN.

Annie is a nurse and podcaster who is an avowed believer in the potential for nurses to use strategic content creation as an avenue to manifest a bold new career direction, create a robust and satisfying side hustle, or empower their current clinical practice and career mobility.

One of the points Annie makes during the interview is that her educational podcast for nurses directly contributed to her employer giving her a promotion to Clinical Nurse III (and a significant raise) since they considered every episode an official publication.

Annie has been a nurse since 2014 with experience in medical-oncology, emergency, and intermediate care units. She believes that if she still has questions nine years out into her career, other nurses do, too. She uses her podcast as a safe environment to address common nursing questions and pitfalls.

Annie is also a wife and proud mother of a wonderfully silly seven-year-old boy. In her free time she enjoys traveling, working out, reading, and cooking.

Let's Change How We Think About Difficult Patients

On episode 467 of The Nurse Keith Show nursing and healthcare career podcast, Keith interviews Dr. Joan Naidorf, an emergency physician, speaker, and author based in Alexandria, VA. In the course of their conversation, Keith and Dr. Naidorf discuss her 2022 book, Changing How We Think About Difficult Patients: A Guide for Physicians and Healthcare Professionals.

Dr. Naiforf's thesis is that we can all too easily fall into the habit of thinking negatively about our patients. She also contends that, when it comes to how we think about our most challenging patients, there are clear steps that we can take to change that calculus and stop allowing our relationships with patients to be poisoned by negativity, judgmental attitudes, and resentment.

Dr. Naidorf trained at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. She is board-certified in emergency medicine.

Embracing the Wisdom of the Whole With Nurse Coaching for All

On episode 466 of The Nurse Keith Show nursing and healthcare career podcast, Keith interviews Linda Bark, PhD, RN, MCC, NC-BC, NBC-HWC, the founder of the Wisdom of the Whole Coaching Academy and a pioneer in the world of holistic nursing and nurse entrepreneurship. Linda also happens to be Keith's original coaching mentor on his path to become a Board Certified Nurse Coach.

In the course of their conversation, Keith and Linda discuss the meaning of the similarities and differences between the terms holistic and integral, and how Linda has brought an integral approach to teaching coaching to thousands of nurses. Along with her colleague Barbie Dossey (another Nurse Keith Show alumna) and other nurse luminaries, Linda was one of the groundbreaking nurses who shepherded the creation of the Board Certified Nurse Coach designation and its acceptance and validation as a true nursing specialty. Linda wants nurses to understand that it pays to be integral and holistic on both a personal and professional level.

Linda Bark has pioneered new professional health pathways by starting a nursing private practice in 1970 and by bringing holistic nursing to hospitals in the 80s. During the 90s she led medical tours to China, lived in China to discover how to help Westerners create a context for Eastern healing, and consulted to organizations nationwide to start healing centers.

Ms. Bark has two nursing degrees, a masters in life transition counseling, and a PhD in philosophy and religion. She combined her education and experience to create the Wisdom of the Whole Coaching Academy, a home for discovery and exploration of a new integral way of coaching that benefits the coach, the client, and the world. She has trained coaches internationally in such organizations as the Mayo Clinic, the Cleveland Clinic, as well as KPMG and Welji in India.

Linda has been involved in many professional areas. Dr. Bark received first place for professional development for her textbook The Wisdom of the Whole: Coaching for Joy, Health, and Success. She has been very instrumental in helping create national coach certification at AHNCC and NBHWC. Currently, she is an advisor to the Indian government to design a health coach certification there.

Peer-reviewed research shows the efficacy of Bark's coaching model. Her work is multifaceted and includes her coaching academy, her private individual clients, and her corporate clients. She hopes all arenas are helping to build a new world with more kindness and justice, increased healing for the planet, more wholeness, and a deeper knowledge that we are all connected.

Empowered Nurses, Transformational Change, and a Seat at the Table

On episode 464 of The Nurse Keith Show nursing and healthcare career podcast, Keith interviews nurse and author Jennifer Thietz, MSN, RN regarding how nurses can be empowered to claim a seat at the table and bring about transformational change in healthcare. Ms. Thietz believes that nurses have the intelligence and insight to take part in meaningful conversations that could alter the course of 21st-century healthcare. After all, as the saying goes, if you don't have a seat at the table, you'll probably end up on the menu — and who would want that?

Jennifer Thietz (nee Marais) is a master-trained nurse and author. She immigrated to California in 2003, where she worked in acute care settings for eighteen years, most of those at the bedside. She has a wealth of experience regarding the changing face of healthcare in the USA and the current needs of nurses.

In 2016, Jennifer published a book for cancer patients under her maiden name, Jenny Marais, which won multiple awards. In 2023, her chapter "Tribe of Angels: Lessons Learned from Nurses on Resilience during the COVID Pandemic" was part of an anthology that achieved Amazon's International best-seller status. Jennifer is deeply concerned about the healthcare crisis, particularly the fate of nurses suffering from compassion fatigue and burnout. Jennifer's book focuses on self-care and a nurse's movement for transformational change.

Her new nurse model addresses nurses' working needs and empowers them to lead the conversation on transforming healthcare.
