In 1904, the straw doll was gifted to a young boy named Robert Eugene Otto. What followed was a bond that went far beyond childhood imagination. Visitors claimed the doll changed expressions. Some believed something else was looking out through his glassy eyes.

To this day, legend holds that a malevolent spirit inhabits Robert, attached to him for reasons never fully explained. Now housed at the Fort East Martello Museum in Key West, Robert continues to leave a trail of unexplained misfortune, apologies, and warnings from those who fail to show him respect.
