A West Cork father, Leonard Lyons, is appealing to the Government to speed up his wife’s family-reunification visa application, which has been awaiting a decision for 14 months. His wife and their nine-month-old son, who holds an Irish passport, are currently in the Philippines, where volcanic ashfall has raised concerns about the baby’s health. The family says they have followed all the required procedures and are simply asking for a decision. The Department of Justice says applications of this type generally have a 12-month target for a first-instance decision, although some cases can take longer.
