Dr. Mark Carlotto: Ice Age City Found in Mexico
    Key points:

•The “eye” in Mexico looks a lot like the “eye” of the Sahara - the Richat stricture in north Africa. But the story goes a lot deeper.

•This area in Mexico was researched by the Mexican archaeologist Nicholas Leon who joined the National Museum in Mexico City in 1900 and became head of the Department of Anthropology. He wrote an article published in in the November and December 1903 issue of The American Antiquarian. This is an except from the article: "massive walls have been found, but they are covered with a mass of deposited earth, sixty feet in thickness. And mingled in this earth are human skeletons, the tusks of elephants, etc., distributed in a way which indicates that the overflow of water and mud was sudden, giving no time for escape."

•The “elephant” bones he discovered were really those the the wholly mammoth. Mammoth remains were unearthed near Mexico City in 2020.

•Mammoth remains found in this part of the world are consistent with major climate changes at the end of the last ice age. The geology of the surrounding landscape also indicates something unusual, likely catastrophic happened.

Mark Carlotto is an aerospace engineer with over thirty years of experience in satellite imaging, remote sensing, image processing, and pattern recognition. He received a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University in 1981 and has published numerous technical articles and books. Dr. Carlotto contributed extensively to the investigation of the Face and other structures in the Cydonia region of Mars, analyzed anomalous objects in STS-48 and STS-80 space shuttle videos, and participated in a recent study of unusual surface features on the far side of the Moon. In his latest book, Before Atlantis, Mark Carlotto draws from his unique background and experience to propose new answers to basic questions concerning human origins, ancient technology, and archaeological enigmas.

Destiny, Nicola Twilley: Frostbite, How Refrigeration Changes our Food, Planet and Ourselves
"Engrossing...hard to put down."—The New York Times Book Review“Frostbite is a perfectly executed cold fusion of science, history, and literary verve . . . as a fellow nonfiction writer, I bow down. This is how it's done.”—Mary Roach, author of Fuzz and StiffAn engaging and far-reaching exploration of refrigeration, tracing its evolution from scientific mystery to globe-spanning infrastructure, and an essential investigation into how it has remade our entire relationship with food—for better and for worseHow often do we open the fridge or peer into the freezer with the expectation that we’ll find something fresh and ready to eat? It’s an everyday act—but just a century ago, eating food that had been refrigerated was cause for both fear and excitement. The introduction of artificial refrigeration overturned millennia of dietary history, launching a new chapter in human nutrition. We could now overcome not just rot, but seasonality and geography. Tomatoes in January? Avocados in Shanghai? All possible. In Frostbite, New Yorker contributor and cohost of the award-winning podcast Gastropod Nicola Twilley takes listeners on a tour of the cold chain from farm to fridge, visiting off-the-beaten-path landmarks such as Missouri’s subterranean cheese caves, the banana-ripening rooms of New York City, and the vast refrigerated tanks that store the nation’s orange juice reserves. Today, nearly three-quarters of everything on the average American plate is processed, shipped, stored, and sold under refrigeration. It’s impossible to make sense of our food system without understanding the all-but-invisible network of thermal control that underpins it. Twilley’s eye-opening book is the first to reveal the transformative impact refrigeration has had on our health and our guts; our farms, tables, kitchens, and cities; global economics and politics; and even our environment. In the developed world, we’ve reaped the benefits of refrigeration for more than a century, but the costs are catching up with us. We’ve eroded our connection to our food and redefined what “fresh” means. More important, refrigeration is one of the leading contributors to climate change. As the developing world races to build a US-style cold chain, Twilley asks: Can we reduce our dependence on refrigeration? Should we? A deeply researched and reported, original, and entertaining dive into the most important invention in the history of food and drink, Frostbite makes the case for a recalibration of our relationship with the fridge—and how our future might depend on it.

Nicola Twilley* is author of Frostbite: How Refrigeration Changed Our Food, Our Planet, and Ourselves (Penguin Press, June 2024), and co-host of the award-winning Gastropod podcast, which looks at food through the lens of history and science, and which is part of the Vox Media Podcast Network in partnership with Eater. Her first book, Until Proven Safe: The History and Future of Quarantine, was co-authored with Geoff Manaugh and was named one of the best books of 2021 by Time Magazine, NPR, the Guardian, and the Financial Times. She is a contributing writer at The New Yorker and the author of Edible Geography. She lives in Los Angeles.

Ed Barnhart: The Forgotten Island of Rapa Nui
The Rapa Nui people are the original inhabitants of Rapa Nui Island, commonly known as “Easter Island.” The island in the southeastern Pacific Ocean is a colony of Chile, “annexed” in 1933 without the consent of the Rapa Nui people. The Rapa Nui people, comprising 36 clans, are engaged in a collective effort to rebuild its government and regain control of their ancestral lands and sacred and burial sites. In addition, the clans want to reclaim their self-government rights so they can curb unsustainable immigration and development on the island. The Center is providing legal assistance to help the Rapa Nui people use international law to defend their rights and bring an end to more than a century of Chilean mistreatment and human rights violations. The Rapa Nui clans had begun taken actions to reoccupy their illegally taken lands, control their sacred and burial sites, and exercise their self-government rights, to call attention to the need for serious and constructive dialogue to resolve these issues.

The Chilean government took a hard line against the Rapa Nui protests and clan leaders, using excessive violence to evict clan members from their ancestral lands and sacred and burial sites, and criminally prosecuting the leaders. In 2010, the Center secured precautionary measures from the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights to prevent human rights violations arising from forced evictions perpetuated by Chilean armed forces. As a result, the violence has decreased but the situation remains tense because of unproductive and irregular dialogue carried out by the Chilean government on Rapa Nui issues. In the Spring of 2015, Rapa Nui leaders began to manage and control the sacred archeological sites that had long been controlled the Chilean government.  Chilean authorities began arresting and prosecuting the Rapa Nui leaders, and they searched and closed down the offices of the Rapa Nui Parliament.

This led to demonstrations and further arrests as Rapa Nui leaders demanded self-determination and decolonization of the island. Center attorneys have provided legal counsel to the leaders and have assisted them in addressing the United Nations Human Rights Council, demanding an end to Chile’s colonial rule of the island; as well as in requesting again precautionary measures from the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights to protect the lives of Rapa Nui leaders. Center will help to enforce the recommendations issued by the Commission, and will continue to help the Rapa Nui to win respect for their land rights and their right to self-government.

Dr. Edwin Barnhart, director of the Maya Exploration Center, has over twenty five years of experience in Central, South, and North America as an archaeologist, an explorer, and an instructor. He has appeared in over a dozen documentaries and given presentations all over the world. His involvement in Maya studies began in 1990 as an archaeological intern in the ruins of Copan, Honduras. In January of 1996 he was invited to return to Copan and help the University of Pennsylvania excavate the early acropolis and the tomb of the city’s lineage founder. From 1992-1995 he studied art, iconography, and epigraphy (hieroglyphic translation) under the late Dr. Linda Schele at the University of Texas at Austin. During that same time he worked across the state of Texas as a contract archaeologist.

Greg Little: Native American Mounds and Earthworks
Visiting ancient mounds & earthworks in the United States is a great way to introduce you and your family to some of the most unappreciated archaeological treasures in the world. The largest and most complex geometric earthworks in the world, made about 2,000 years ago, are in America. There are thousands of ancient mound sites, some with associated museums, that show the history of an extensive civilization that was found all over America in 1492. There were tens of thousands of hamlets, villages, towns, and even cities here with populations up to 50,000 people residing in the area surrounding mound complexes. These towns and cities were often fortresses with high palisade walls protecting the elite, who resided on the massive mounds.

This ancient mound culture likely had its start around 9,000 B.C., but by 3,000 B.C. or so mound building took off and dominated the continent. It is known that over 100,000 mound sites, some having over 100 mounds, were constructed by this culture, which all but vanished after incursions by the Spanish in the early 1500s spread diseases that decimated the population. Within two generations, the indigenous populations declined by 90 to 95 percent and by 1600 mound building all but ceased. However, this culture made some of the most exquisite and mysterious ceremonial artifacts ever found in the world, some of which are displayed at site museums. America's Mound Builders represent a forgotten part of history, one that merits as much appreciation as any other ancient civilization.

In this first volume of the Native American Mound & Earthwork Field Journal, a brief history of this amazing culture is presented. The various types of mounds and earthworks they made, the dates of various mound cultures, and many of their key spiritual beliefs are presented in this easy-to-understand book. The role of shaman and Medicine People within their society is explained in a straight forward manner as well as a simple method to mentally connect with sites when you visit, should you desire to do so. Over 30 photos and illustrations are also found in the book.
The importance of keeping notes as you visit sites is stressed and the types of things you might want to record at each location are presented. There are 65 formatted "blank" pages in the book where you can write field notes, and there is a sample page included from the author's own field journal.

A list of 51 major sites open to the public is in the book along with 34 museums. Table of Contents:

America’s Ancient Mound Builders: A Forgotten History
The “Arrival:” The Beginning of an End
Who Were the Ancient Native American Mound Builders? How Many People Were in the Americas in 1492?

Dr. Gregory L. Little is the author of numerous books on Native American mounds and spirituality including The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Native American Indian Mounds & Earthworks (2009; 2016), Path of Souls (2014), Native American Mounds in Alabama (2017), Forgotten History: 5-Day Mound Tour (2023), People of the Web (1990; 2022), and Mound Builders (2001). He is also co-author with Andrew Collins of Denisovan Origins (2019) and Origins of the Gods(2022), both of which focused on America's mound cultures. Greg has a B.A. and M.S. in psychology and an Ed.D. in counseling and educational psychology from Memphis State University, now the University of Memphis. Jim Vieira: Edgar Cayce's Giants
Twentieth Century Psychic and Medical ClairvoyantEdgar Cayce (pronounced Kay-Cee, 1877-1945) has been called the “sleeping prophet,” the “father of holistic medicine,” and the most documented psychic of the 20th century. For more than 40 years of his adult life, Cayce gave psychic “readings” to thousands of seekers while in an unconscious state, diagnosing illnesses and revealing lives lived in the past and prophecies yet to come. But who, exactly, was Edgar Cayce?Cayce was born on a farm in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, in 1877, and his psychic abilities began to appear as early as his childhood. He was able to see and talk to his late grandfather’s spirit, and often played with “imaginary friends” whom he said were spirits on the other side. He also displayed an uncanny ability to memorize the pages of a book simply by sleeping on it. These gifts labeled the young Cayce as strange, but all Cayce really wanted was to help others, especially children.Later in life, Cayce would find that he had the ability to put himself into a sleep-like state by lying down on a couch, closing his eyes, and folding his hands over his stomach. In this state of relaxation and meditation, he was able to place his mind in contact with all time and space — the universal consciousness, also known as the super-conscious mind. From there, he could respond to questions as broad as, “What are the secrets of the universe?” and “What is my purpose in life?” to as specific as, “What can I do to help my arthritis?” and “How were the pyramids of Egypt built? His responses to these questions came to be called “readings,” and their insights offer practical help and advice to individuals even today. Many people are surprised to learn that Edgar Cayce was a devoted churchgoer and Sunday school teacher. At a young age, Cayce vowed to read the Bible for every year of his life, and at the time of his death in 1945, he had accomplished this task. Perhaps the readings said it best, when asked how to become psychic, Cayce’s advice was to become more spiritual.

Jim Vieira is an author, explorer, historical detective and host of the History Channel shows "Search for the Lost Giants" (2014), "Roanoke: Search for the Lost Colony" (2015), and "Return to Roanoke: Search the Seven" (2016). He has also appeared on "Expedition Unknown" with Josh Gates (2017), "Legends of the Lost" with Megan Fox (2018), Travel Chanel’s "Code of the Wild" (2019), "Expedition Bigfoot" (2020), William Shatner’s "Unexplained" (2021). Laurence Fishburne’s "History’s Greatest Mysteries" (2022) and "Ancient Aliens" (2019-2024). He is the author of "Giants on Record" (2014) and "The Giants of Stonehenge and Ancient Britain" (2018).

Destiny: Melissa Tittl, Source, It's Within You
    Code-12

Da Vinci Code meets Indiana Jones in the setting of Inception. As the world nears a precipice of suffering, technology has become the answer to our problems. It seems that even with the greatest discoveries we still haven't figured out how to fix some of the main problems that plague humanity. Some people refer to this ceiling as the matrix, an invisible hand that puppets our every move on this planet. Melissa Tittl, investigative journalist and filmmaker never really thought anything of this concept until a personal experience that haunted her. It became a journey to unravel an ancient code in the tombs of the pharaohs, the temple walls and ancient sites all over the world. She uncovers not only one code but two. One code that we use today in our current mathematical systems and a second code that hints at something more ancient and much more profound. A computer programer warns her, "If you are in a simulation and you are asking these questions who ever simulated you, isn't going to let you get this far. " Putting danger aside, she pursues her mission. She interviews geneticists, archeologists, biblical scholars, quantum physicists that have all picked up the same code in all their work. Could this be the next part of our evolution? Melissa weaves together profound evidence that our greatest human potential is hidden in plain sight, waiting for us to understand how the universe really works.
