  • Flyers get defense from trading mates
The Phoenix Coyotes really have no relation at all to the Philadelphia Flyers. The two are not geographically close nor do the two teams even play each other. However, the Flyers acquired thier third Coyote of the year today in defenseman Denis Gauthier as well as winger Niko Dimitrakos from San Jose. Earlier in the season you may remember that the Flyers acquired a young center by the name of Kiel McLoed from the Coyotes for Eric Chouinard and more recently Petr Nedved became a member of the Flyers team for Denis Seidenberg. Now Gauthier is just the player that the Flyers front office said they were looking for down the stretch. Don't get me wrong, Hatcher is still a very physical defensemen and Freddy Meyer is really playing physical as well but the Flyers really needed someone who was going to go one step further and get physical with the top players from the opposition. Gauthier seems to be the right fit, not only does he seem very excited to be relocated, but he had a total of 113 penalty minutes while with the Flames in the 03-04 season. Gauthier currently has a total of 61 penalty minutes so far this season so he is certainly someone who is going to get physical behind the blue line and play a more enforcer role. Dimitrakos was also acquired today from the San Jose Sharks for a 2006 third round draft pick. Bob Clarke seems to think that Dimitrakos has much more potential than his numbers really show. He has 4 goals and 12 assists in 45 games this year for the Sharks, it will be interesting to see where Dimitrakos fits into the club. Much more on this weeks edition of the Flyers Weekly Podcast.
