    BAD HOAX

On the show today we have up-and-coming Sydney electronic duo - Bad Hoax! Both dancefloor and cry-in-the-car ready, their sound is effortlessly emotive. Alex’s somber siren vocals and Will’s thumping, dynamic production create an unfamiliar heaven. Trading the comforts of the studio with the duo’s car, and room in their apartment, a heaviness weighs on their newest singles, Not that Deep and Home. Alex and Will join us in the studio today - it’s time to get Out of the Box.

This episode was presented to you by Nick Hibbs and produced by Alex Kennedy. Out of the Box is recorded at the fbi station in Redfern, which is on unceded Gadigal Land. We pay our respects to Gadigal elders past and present and recognise the ongoing colonial violence committed across this country. Wherever you’re tuning in from in so-called Sydney, the land always was, always will be, Aboriginal land.

    GI

Every episode of OOTB is special, but today is a bit different… today is the release day of “double take recognition violence,” the second album from sydney producer and dj gi. This is gi’s follow up to thought makes music, one of the best albums of 2024, and nominated for record of the year at the 2024 smac awards, and with this, she picks up where she left off. Gi’s signature take on “idm,” is unmistakable, but evolved with double take recognition violence, putting more of a focus on atmosphere and less on the experimental drum and bass sounds, and the result is breathtaking. Gigi, who performs and releases electronic music as gi also fronts the punk band optic nerve, who last released angel numbers in 2023, another record that was nominated for record of the year at the fbi smac awards. Truly one of the most innovative and thoughtful artists in Sydney, i’m lucky to be joined by gigi on ootb today.
