Two unpretentious, unqualified film enthusiasts try to stay on topic as they take a look at movies past and present.
Thanks for your patience, y'all! It's been a tough coupla weeks (months, year) for everyone and we sincerely hoping you're finding ways to take care of yourself. This is an episode that we recorded in mid-March. While we intentionally skipped our February ep and are posting this one WAY late, we promise we're not going anywhere. At Flick Yeah! HQ, we've begun some production talks on how to continue bringing you fun movie content that still excites us, as creators. In the meantime, enjoy our discussion of a few dog movies and the first "new" movie we've reviewed in a while!
IN THEATERS AKA YOUR LIVING ROOM
Blithe Spirit - Fun but misses the mark.
THEME MOVIES
Old Yeller - Why is this a classic?
Sounder - Beautiful film we hadn't heard of. Highly recommend!
Marley & Me - Too cheesy or just cheesy enough?
Megan Leavey - Bad title, sweet film.

Happy 2021! We decided on some lighter fare this month to take a break from the world crumbling around us. We watched 4 very different interpretations of the story of Hercules and WOW, what a ride. THEME MOVIES Hercules (Lou Ferrigno, 1983) - Absolutely bonkers. Worth a watch for sheer trippiness. Hercules and the Amazon Women (Kevin Sorbo, 1994) - Rough start to what seemed like a successful TV show. Hercules (Tate Donovan/Disney, 1997) - So, so good. Despite or because of all the dumb jokes, you decide. Hercules (Dwayne Johnson, 2014) - A lot of fun! Glad they didn't take it too seriously (...or did they?) SPOILERS ABOUND!
Hannah's sister Caitlin joins the podcast for our final episode of 2020! We discuss the queer "rom com" currently streaming on Hulu and then dive into the Blade Runner franchise and a couple movies it inspired. Enjoy!
IN THEATERS AKA YOUR LIVING ROOM
Happiest Season - A bit of a disappointment but worth watching for the conversations it sparked!
THEME MOVIES
Blade Runner - Quiet and beautiful (for many people).
The Fifth Element - Just a silly good time.
Dark City - "I didn't hate it!"
Blade Runner 2049 - I hope Ryan Gosling was wearing a step tracker.

Women showed up big time for Biden in the 2020 election (particularly women of color)! In celebration of that fact, we watched 4 female-centric movies that all depressed us a bit but then pumped us way back up! Who run the world? GIRLS! Oh and we also watched a Thanksgiving-themed new release that was a bit of a dumpster fire. Happy Thanksgiving everyone? IN THEATERS AKA YOUR LIVING ROOM Friendsgiving - Wayyyyy too much going on. You can skip this one. THEME MOVIES Set it Off - Much darker than expected but fantastic and moving. Erin Brockovich - Super holds up! Give this one a rewatch. Whale Rider - Sad and quiet but very sweet and heartwarming. Queen of Katwe - The weakest of these 4 but still pretty good! Happy October everybody! No new movie this episode and since the presidential election is just around the corner, we decided to watch a few movies related to elections and campaigns. Some helped us take our minds off of the current state of the world and others were a harsh reminder of how bad things feel sometimes. There's something for everyone! Vote vote vote.
THEME MOVIES
Speechless (1994) - This one did not live up to its potential.
The Manchurian Candidate (2004) - What are you doing, Meryl Streep??
Napoleon Dynamite - Our thoughts on this one make us feel more out of the mainstream than the title character.
The Purge: Election Year - Not scary, not particularly thrilling, but still a good time.

The world lost a great talent much too soon on 8/28/20. We watched a few of his films in celebration of his life, and now we only miss him more. For discussions of 2 of his other films, check out Black Panther in episode 137 and Marshall in episode 119. THEME MOVIES 42 - So great, but we may never be able to look at Alan Tudyk the same way again. Get on Up - Turns out James Brown was a bit strange? As was this movie's timeline. Captain America: Civil War - Black Panther's debut. Some great parts (mostly involving him, Ant-Man & Spiderman) but not our favorite Marvel movie. 21 Bridges - Pretty formulaic but super enjoyable! Da 5 Bloods - Much bloodier than expected. Another month, another batch of movies! Listen in as we chat about some badass women getting revenge. First, we discuss a new release that didn't quite meet our expectations. Enjoy!
IN THEATERS AKA YOUR LIVING ROOM
Babysplitters - Compelling premise, poor execution.
THEME MOVIES
The Quick and the Dead - How old do we think Leo was during filming?
Kill Bill: Vol 1 - Urgh, it fits the theme. Fine.
Chinjeolhan geumjassi (Lady Vengeance) - Hard to follow but worth a watch.
The Nightingale - Hard to watch but worth a follow. Wait..

And it feels so good. Hannah has returned from her sojourn to Chicago, not that it REALLY matters right now since we can't leave our homes. But it's lovely to have her back and do some socially-distant hangs. To celebrate our reunion, we watched some movies featuring our names, with... mixed results. IN THEATERS AKA YOUR LIVING ROOM Palm Springs - Sweet and funny but not too memorable. THEME MOVIES Anne of Green Gables (1985) - So FUCKING delightful you will die. Watch it now. Hannah and Her Sisters - Not Woody Allen's best work, and Anne hates even his best work. The Diary of Anne Frank (2009) - Worth a watch for the compelling story. Probably not the best version out there though. The Possession of Hannah Grace - So, so bad. Just no. RIP Randy. It's June 2020 and there's a lot going on. In honor of Pride month and the Black Lives Matter movement, we chose a few movies by queer black filmmakers. As usual, we kick things off with a new movie (that would have been in theaters) that you can rent on demand today. Enjoy!
IN THEATERS AKA YOUR LIVING ROOM
The High Note - Annoyed that the lead is white but still a good time.
THEME MOVIES
Brother to Brother - Sweet, thought-provoking, and relevant.
D.E.B.S. - A farcically good time!
Pariah - It's all in what's not being said.
The Paperboy - I wouldn't know where to start if I tried. And I tried.

For this episode we decided to explore the "we only use 10% of our brains" myth by watching some cranium-expanding films. Turns out these filmmakers were only using 10% of their energy making these movies. Still some interesting stuff though, and we kicked things off with a new Netflix release that was sweet enough to almost make up for our disappointing theme movies. IN THEATERS AKA YOUR LIVING ROOM The Half of It - A charming new take on Cyrano de Bergerac; definitely worth checking out on Netflix! THEME MOVIES Charly - Maybe we need to actually read Flowers for Algernon. Senseless - SO stupid and offensive, but Anne didn't hate it for some reason. Limitless - The best of the 4 by far but not as good as it could be. Thanks, straight white men. Lucy - Inexplicably, inexcusably bad. Why are ScarJo and Morgan Freeman in this?? For this milestone episode, we revisit an early episode! We watched all the same movies from episode 50 and discuss our thoughts without listening to our reviews from 5 years ago. Listen in to see if anything has changed (particularly since Hannah has a terrible memory)!
THEME MOVIES
Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) - Psst. Have you heard about this movie? It's good.
The Gold Rush - We love Charlie Chaplin!
The Golden Child - Great if you like your Eddie Murphy with a side of 'isms...
The Golden Bowl - We. Can't. Even.
Fool's Gold - Not as bad as Hannah remembers.
