Hi beloved listeners of our KS Podcast,

Our last post was back in 2013, and even in 2015 (nearing the beginning of 2016) people are still listening to our podcast. We appreciate all the kind words you guys have given us. Though we are very sorry we never continued with this podcast. We hope you guys enjoyed it. I, myself enjoyed making it as well as listening back on it from time to time. It's been 4 years since it was first made. That was my sophomore year of high school. Now I'm in college. Actually all of cast members are in college. Ben, the founder himself is a Junior in college. Kevin has just started up college as well.

But back to the point, we thank you for listening to us. And we apologize but we will probably never release another episode. Thank you!

Episode 011- Scissors and Tanks
Edward, Alex, and Cyril join Ben and Kevin to discuss this year's Spring Anime season. Some of it was very good, while others were... interesting. Nonetheless, they talk about their favorites from this season, and why some shows fell flat. That, as well as a review of the first episode of Say I Love You, makes for a great episode that's over an hour and a half long.

Episode 009- Waifu of the Week: Emi! Finally! We've saved the best girl for last! Ben, Henry and William get to discuss this cute little bundle of energy to their heart's content. Though it may seem, not everyone loves Emi as much as they should. They talk running, the Electra Complex, lemons, and why Emi is the most realistic girlfriend out of the bunch. Also, William is really British and it's great.

Hey guys! I am sorry that I have not been posting any spotlights recently. A lot of things have been on my plate and I could not find the time for it. Midterms were this week, had some girl problems (I know right? lolol girls), and of course the infamous Steam Sales struck again.

But you aren't here for my life problems. I mean come on, really life? Who needs that when you have anime and waifus!!! This week's anime is a ongoing one(well its newest season is ongoing at least). The reason why I chose this one is because I at first did not know of it and was introduced by a friend. So I thought, why not show it to you guys? I hope you will enjoy and appreciate this anime series.




Before I tell you the name of this anime, I think I should warn you for the incoming lovey-dovey-feely-feels. This anime really got me thinking, and made me WANT to get a girlfriend and be able to do this (by the way, done). The series also has a really unique style to it. It is unlike any other slice of life series that are completely random or battle focused. This has a actual plot, and no, not fanservice "plot". Plot that has a story line to it. iWishToHugYou (David) and Vespers (Fernando)from the podcast love this anime, so hopefully so will you.

Bakuman!
When Bakuman first came out, it was completely new to me. It had a completely different way of grabbing your attention. Bakuman is about two guys who are very,very different. Akito Takagi is a top notch student and have any job, while Moritaka Mashiro is a average kid that has a knack for drawing and a little crush on a Azuki Miho. Takagi wants to become a manga artist, but just can't draw the pictures the way he wants them to be. That's where Mashiro comes in. The two join together and this.... this becomes their dream.

But thats not the only Dream!
Mashiro, as I have told you before, has a crush on Miho. He has yet to tell her. Takagi does this for him and soon enough THEY START DATING!!!!. (lol no, it doesnt work like that even in anime). Miho reveals that she likes him too but just doesn't know what to do. Mashiro, like the main character idiot that he is, tells her that he wants to become a Manga Artist and make Anime. And Miho replies with her dream of becoming a voice actor. 

Mashiro: Well.... How about... You marry me when our dreams come true?! Miho: YES! 
It was right then, I and many others were drawn into this anime about people making anime. (Animeception, so meta!)
Synopsis: Moritaka Mashiro and Akito Takagi are pretty much foils of each other. Mashiro, an average 9th grade student but talented artist, and Takagi, an overall advanced 9th grader and aspiring writer. After great convincing, Takagi convinces Mashiro to join him in becoming the greatest mangakas Japan has ever seen. Takagi, with his gift of writing, hopes to become a successful mangaka, and Mashiro, with his gift of art, hopes to marry the girl of his dreams, Azuki Miho. 
Genre: Slice of Life (in a way), Comedy, Romance, School (just alittle bit) Episodes: 3 Seasons (3rd in ongoing. each season has around 24-25 episodes) Rating:√-i

Sorry for all of you that were expecting an episode tonight. As much as I hate to say it, there won't be one.

Kevin has been really busy these past few weeks with school and life. I've been quite busy too, and perhaps not busy enough, since my grades are starting to slip. Henry, who I really wanted to have on this episode, is also busy.

But above all else, I'm no longer comfortable with putting out an episode if I don't think it's a good one. Too many times now we've recorded an episode the night it's due out, and our lack of preparation has caused the quality to suffer. Last week was a good example. We definitely spent WAY too much time talking about absolutely nothing, and the topics I did want to go over were only just brushed upon. I want to release an episode only if those listening will enjoy it. We never have any notes, and for the most part any real discussion. William, our new writer, has so many good ideas for what we can do for Emi's episode that I don't want them to go to waste on a rushed recording. It might be quality control, but I don't want you listening to something I'm not proud of making.

Once again, I'm really sorry to those who were excited to hear the next new episode. I promise next week's one will more than make up for it. Until then, I hope you keep listening and providing feedback. Love you guys. See you next week.

I’m going to begin my anime spotlights with my favourite anime: Gurren Lagann. It’s very apt for a Katawa Shoujo blog, too...

Oh god mah drills


If you haven’t seen it yet, I’m going to try not to spoil much past the first episode for you. The main character, Simon, lives in a post-apocalyptic Earth where humanity is condemned to live underground while the surface is controlled by animal-like beastmen who pilot Ganmen (or possibly gunmen). Simon acts like a scared child much of the time, playing foil to his bro, Kamina, whose constant shows of fearlessness eventually inspire Simon, instilling the courage in him that he needs to row row fight the powah.

The constant motif of the drill portrays the main themes of Gurren Lagann: anything is possible and love changes the universe. The endless spin symbolizes life’s ever-changing perseverance through all good and bad times. The drill, being the embodiment of spin, symbolizes humanity’s ability to thrive and life itself. These are big, cheesy themes, I know, but they work. Gurren integrates them into the very souls of the characters and the anime takes place on such a grand scale, that they are realized by the entire universe.
Spirals...

Essentially, it’s a giant love letter to the mecha anime of the 80’s. It’s masculine, testosterone-packed kid v. mechs v. universe fun. A lot of people criticize the anime for being silly, over-the-top, etc. and reeking of fanservice. I don’t. I firmly believe that everything in this anime works with in the story. As I alluded to in the last paragraph, the crazy scale of Gurren Lagann is necessary for their crazy themes to be truly realized. Without all the fun and antics combined with the gratuitous battles it would only have been half of what we have today.

So go watch it. Now.

I’m planning on writing a follow up to this in a week or so. I didn’t cover all of my thoughts about the themes or how bloody depressing it all is once you consider how the characters end up.

Enough with the Hisao. You've likely seen me in the comments, or heard about me in Rin's podcast. After chatting with Ben over the tubes, I've been allowed to spout my crazy ideas make Anime/VN-related posts and even possibly join in the podcast fun.

If you want to know more about me, I'm a senior in a southern California high school. I've played tuba in the band all four years, marching band freshman through junior, and this year I joined the Academic Decathlon team, possibly against my better judgement (Doctor Zhivago sucks). My family moved to America from Britain when I was quite young, and I've been brought up in a strange, southern Californian distortion of British culture. At the age of twelve I started learning how to program with ActionScript, i.e., Flash, eventually branching out into better platforms (Python, C#, C/C++ to name a few). I've always had a penchant for the maths and sciences, but under my current and previous English literature and language teachers, respectively, I've come to enjoy critical reading (as opposed to reading for fun) and analysis more and more.


Some facts more easily enumerated:

• My waifu is Lilly Satou. 
• My favourite anime is Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, followed closely by several others.
• I run Linux (Ubuntu 12.04, as it plays well with my dual monitor setup while not having broken packages)
• Visual novel-wise, my first one was Digital: A Love Story. Apart from Katawa Shoujo, I've also played Shuffle! and don't take it personally babe, it just ain't your story.

After the release of Manly Picnic this week, Matt/Kenji sent me a message on Facebook asking me to consider making a group there in order to keep people updated on the show's happenings and whatnot. He even took the liberty to make the page himself. So we have that now.

I just started setting it up a few minutes ago, and already people whose names I do not know are popping up. Episode 007- Manly Picnic Oh, I'm sorry! Were you expecting the Emi installment to our Waifu of the Week Series? Too bad! We're taking a two week break from that to bring you Kenji instead. I understand if you are disappointed that you didn't get to hear Emi's episode this week(don't worry, she's my favorite too). But it'll come eventually. Besides, won't it be so much more worth it when all that waiting pays off, and you get to hear the best episode of KS Cast about the best girl? I think so. #obviousbias
Anyway, Kenji is our center of discussion this week. Kenji, we all know him. That Harry Potter look-alike who hates all things female and acts like that one loud obnoxious neighbor you can't stand to be around but also don't want him to leave. Let us take the time, tonight, to discuss our dear good ol' friend Kenji.
And top of all that, we have a guest this week! One that isn't just one of my friends this time! Known online as Kenji, because of his self-admin'd Facebook page of the same name, he has amassed almost 3,000 followers in his fight against the feminist army. We have the prestigious honor to talk to him about how he came to discover this little visual novel, what inspired him to create a fan page for it, and how managing to keep that many people entertained has affected him.
