  • Trophy Whores 619 – Game Preservation Takes a Squad

Whoa, Shuhei! We’ve got a lot to talk about.  Stack it up!  Join Alex, Yield and Matt as they discuss, among other things, Shinji Mikami, founder of Tango Gameworks, and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.  You know, Rocksteady can’t buy good news for Suicide Squad.  It’s all downhill.  What’s more, we lament the lack of commercial game preservation.  With so few historical games available for purchase, many gamers turn to piracy and emulation to help keep older games alive.  Is it right?  Well, search your own conscience.  You might agree with us.

What are you waiting for? Dive in!

As always, the opinions fly fast and heavy! Look out for this super-sized show, as the seemingly smallest conversation veers off into a multiverse of chit-chat. Sounds cool, huh? That’s the fancy way of saying “derailment.” And there’s plenty of that to go around! Let’s dance, Heroes of the XMB!

We are happy and proud to share that Proven Gamer has partnered with the Humble Bundle! The Humble Bundle is a fantastic initiative and program that allows games to score a litany of games on the cheap — all while making charitable donations to various groups and organizations. You can click here for the details on Proven Gamer’s Humble Bundle partnership.

In a bit of big news that would make the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles proud, iHeartRadio, Pandora and Spotify host episodes of Trophy Whores. It’s a tremendous honor for the show to be part of two massive and respected entertainment communities, and Proven Gamer have only the fans to thank for pushing the podcast to soaring heights. The Trophy Whores work hard to put out a quality weekly show, but they owe so much love to their listeners, who keep the show strong and growing.

Trophy Whores 618 – ISPs and Outlaws Awash with a Sea of Thieves

Whoa, Shuhei! We’ve got a lot to talk about.  Stack it up!  Join Tricky, Alex, Yield and Matt as they discuss, among other things, Sea of Thieves, Ghost of Tsushima, LittleBigPlanet 3, and Star Wars Outlaws.  What’s more, Matt dishes some knowledge, in layman’s terms, on the concept of Net Neutrality, which ties into our story about the potential, thanks to the Federal Communications Commission, for ISPs (Internet service providers) to charge more for “fast lanes.”  As if everything weren’t expensive enough.  We’ll have to keep an eye on this developing — and troublesome — news.

What are you waiting for? Dive in!

  • Trophy Whores 617 – Don’t Forget to Tip your Game Dev

Whoa, Shuhei! We’ve got a lot to talk about.  Stack it up!  Join Tricky, Alex, Yield and Matt as they discuss, among other things, Slay the Spire 2, Dead Space 2, Star Wars Outlaws, and, yes, Helldivers 2.  What’s more, former Blizzard President Mike Ybarra thinks that a tipping system should be implemented in video games as a way to further support studios who develop best-in-class games.  Although, we suppose that, under such a system, you could tip for any game that you enjoy (for any reason).  It’s a controversial idea, and we’ve got our thoughts (to share).  As if games and post-launch DLC didn’t cost enough!

Trophy Whores 616 – Knights of Malevelon Creek

Whoa, Shuhei! We’ve got a lot to talk about. Stack it up!  Join Tricky, Alex and Matt as they discuss, among other things, Dave the Diver, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Helldivers 2, and Roblox.  You can’t run a sushi restaurant without fish, you can’t Helldive without a drop-pod, and you can’t listen to Trophy Whores without Fudgie the Whale.

Hold up!  Who is Fudgie the Whale?

Oh, lord.  Listener, don’t Google it.  The horror!

Trophy Whores 615 – Set the Tube to Channel 3

Whoa, Shuhei! We’ve got a lot to talk about. Stack it up!  Join Tricky, Alex, Yield, Matt, Dan and Rey as they discuss, among other things, GameStop’s descent into obscurity and Sony Interactive Entertainment’s rumored PlayStation 5 mid-cycle refresh.  What’s more, we have two guest hosts, Dan and Ray from Channel3.gg, and we get the lowdown on (nearly) everything Channel 3.  We’ve got all the info that you need to know!  This week the (not quite) fearsome foursome becomes a (not so) sinister six.

Trophy Whores 614 – PlayStation Finds a Portal to Early Success

Whoa, Shuhei! We’ve got a lot to talk about. Stack it up!  Join Tricky, Alex, Yield and Matt as they discuss, among other things, Sony Interactive Entertainment and Arrowhead’s mega-popular Helldivers 2, as well as the winners at the GDC Awards and the early, unexpected success of the PlayStation Portal.  What’s more, we have some juicy gossip, which you should always view dubiously.  According to a popular Destiny 2 content creator, SIE and Bungie seem to have a strained relationship — to put it mildly.  Do SIE regret buying Bungie for $3.6 billion?

Trophy Whores 613 – (Light)Saber Interactive Find an Escape Pod

Whoa, Shuhei! We’ve got a lot to talk about. Stack it up!  Join Tricky, Alex, Yield and Matt as they discuss, among other things, Helldivers 2, Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut, and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.  What’s more, Sony Interactive Entertainment, or SIE for short, are once again at the heart of more layoffs.  No, Sony aren’t laying off more SIE employees; however, Deviation Games, who have partnered with SIE on a project, have announced that they are closing.  Deviation Games, opened in 2020, have not — and will not — release a game.  The video game industry continues to show great volatility in the job space, and not even Sony and SIE are able to shield from layoffs and closures.  Here’s hoping we’re (now) on a less tumultuous path.

Trophy Whores 611 – Sony and EA Cut, Close and Cancel

Whoa, Shuhei! We’ve got a lot to talk about. Stack it up!  Join Alex and Yield as they discuss, among other things, the futures of Toys for Bob and Saber Interactive.  What’s more, while Helldivers 2 has been a tremendous success for publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment, SIE have had an otherwise rough week. In what seems to be an weekly occurrence, we have more layoffs to talk about, and SIE have reported more, and substantial, cuts to their staff — and closure of their London studio.  This week, it’s a true mix of good and bad, but we promise it isn’t all gloom and doom.
