Wasatch Mountain Podcast

Crossroad Studios

Crossroad Studios is taking it to the peaks for the 2010-2011 season, climbing every summit in the Wasatch Mountains over 11,000 ft. The Wasatch Summit Project will be high above the ski resorts ripping the powder in ways most of Utah has never seen. The allure of Utah’s pristine backcountry has spurred the conception of this year video project, which will follow a group of local riders/mountaineers through the winter season, capturing their struggles and successes as they try to reach the summits of these 22 prominent peaks. A growing hit-list of chutes, spines, flakes, and runs await them as they make this difficult journey. http://crossroadstudios.com

    302 Inconsistency
Provo Peak (11,068') marks the next summit on the hit list, when the boys discover alpine ice crust existing on all the summits above 10,500'. Leaving the peak-bagging for later in the season, the crew sessions the trees and couloirs of the mid-elevation slopes and ride the blower Utah powder in classic Wasatch form.

    203 Down To Earth
Parker and the boys venture into the backcountry for the first time this season and do some man-boarding. Venturing into the relative safe zones of Cardiff Peak, Flagstaff Mountain, and Grizzly Gulch, the team gets a small sample of just how good the deep stuff is in the Central Wasatch. Jonesing for deeper and steeper lines, come watch as Andy Earl, Uriel Ruvalcaba, Derek Olthuis, Daryl Young, Stain Reichman, and Parker Alec Cross hunt for the goods and warm up their hiking legs for future episodes. Filmed entirely on the Canon 5D Mark II system, episode three is guaranteed to induce a hunger for the powder that can only be satisfied by staying tuned for future episodes. 202 Serious Business
Avalanche danger keeps the boys grounded, and they improvise in the best way they know how: With some bagels, some BK, and a good 'ole fashioned backflip jump. Filmed entirely on the Canon 5D Mark II by Parker Alec Cross, Episode Two calms things down, while simultaneously reminding us how serious of a situation we have here in the Wasatch this season. Featuring the talents of Andy Earl and JP Sokolowski, as well as a cameo by Keola, a simple backflip was never so satisfying.
