EaglesFanCast 234 - Eagles Super Bowl

The Philadelphia Eagles are in the Super Bowl!

The Eagles hosted the NFC Championship at the Linc in Philly and destroyed the Minnesota Vikings 38-7.

The Eagles are in the Super Bowl!!

After the Vikings drove down the field and scored a touchdown, the Eagles didn’t back down. The Offense clicked. The Defense clicked. The Vikings were completely shut down the remaining 55 minutes of the game, and the Eagles went on to score 38 unanswered points in what became a blowout win.

The Eagles are in the Super Bowl!!!

The fans were so loud in the stadium. In the fourth quarter of the game, it became a party atmosphere as the realization came that the shoe would not drop, and the Eagles luck would run out. We were going to win the NFC Championship, we were going to beat the Minnesota Vikings, and our Eagles, who fought so hard, maintained their composure and class and “next man up” attitude for the entire season, were going to the big game on an international stage.

    EaglesFanCast 233 - NFC Underdogs

The NFC Divisional Playoffs at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia had all the markers that the underdog Eagles would be beaten by the Atlanta Falcons at home. The Vegas oddsmakers thought so, the sports analysts thought so.

The trouble for all of them, and the Falcons, was the Eagles organization and fans didn’t think so.

The Eagles go on to beat the Falcons 15-10 in what was a Defensive struggle throughout. The fans in the stadium were louder than I’ve ever heard them, they stepped up, and believed. Coach Doug Pederson worked up a game plan that worked. Nick Foles did what Nick Foles does, and didn’t try to be Carson Wentz. The Offensive Line was in control, protected Foles, and moved the Defense for the runners. The Eagles Defense, though, stepped up huge. The scheme met what the Falcons threw at them. They kept the defending NFC Champions to only ten points in a playoff game. Think about that.

Now the Eagles are playing, at home, in the NFC Championship.

This Sunday evening, the Eagles invite the Minnesota Vikings into The Linc. The Eagles will be underdogs again.

EaglesFanCast 232 - Divisional Playoff Game Underdogs

Here we go, the playoffs. Home game. The Atlanta Falcons. The Eagles fans will be ready in Lincoln Financial Field.

    The Eagles are the underdogs?

Yes, yes they are. For the first time in recent memory, the number one seed in the NFC, playing at home, are the underdogs.

This underlines the fact that no other team, right now, respects the Eagles, or what they have done this season. The rest of the league now believes that the Eagles were no more than our injured quarterback Carson Wentz.

They forget that the Eagles Defense was 4th in the league in total yards per game, 1st in the league in total yards per game, and the takeaway ratio is near the top.

Our Offense? Third in the league in rushing yards per game, and still 13th in the league in passing despite Carson going down. Total Offense yards per game? Seventh. This team is solid.

There are three factors in this game: 1. Nick Foles, which Nick shows up? 2. Offensive line protection for Foles. 3. A Defensive attack that stops the run and harasses Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan.

Either way, we want to see a good game, a fun game.

EaglesFanCast 231 - Eagles Cowboys Nothing

The Philadelphia Eagles finish out the regular season with a 6-0 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, marking the Eagles first loss both at home this season, and first loss against an NFC East team. What does this mean? Nothing!

They finish the season 13-3, made the playoffs, clinched a first round BYE, are the number one seed in the NFC, and have home field throughout the playoffs. This was a season unlike we’ve had since 2004, where the Birds had some notable injuries as well.

The Eagles play their first playoff game in two weeks at home. Nick Foles has struggled the last couple games, and that is the biggest concern. We need him to play well. Not great, but well enough to lead the Offense with sustained drives. The Defense can handle the rest.

We find out in a few days who the Eagles will play, and we will be watching and waiting.

Our favorite Eagle, Brian Dawkins, is one of the finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Few deserve the honor more than that man.

EaglesFanCast 230 - Home Field Advantage

Philadelphia Eagles defeat the Oakland Raiders in an ugly game in a cold Philly. Eagles clinch the number one seed in the NFC with the win and home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

So how do we feel? Anything but jubilant. We feel cautious, nervous, scared, irritated, and, well, pessimistic.

The Defense, while essentially winning the game, allowed big plays and executed poor tackling at times. And on Offense? Nick Foles was not the same player that he was the week before against the Giants. He got into trouble where he didn’t need to be, and was inaccurate on passes way more often than we would have liked.

As such, there is a real concern about the playoffs. Can Foles read and deal with the pressure of better Defenses? Can quality quarterbacks shred our Defense?

Many more questions than we are comfortable with for a 13-2 team with home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Well one more game of the regular season is in front of us, the Dallas Cowboys. This game means nothing. But Foles needs more chemistry and familiarity with his receivers, tight ends, and backs. Will be interesting to see what the coaches decide.

EaglesFanCast 229 - Giants, Playoffs, and Pro Bowl

Ladies and gentlemen, the Philadelphia Eagles have clinched a first round BYE, and get to host the Divisional round! That was the good news of the win over the New York Giants. The bad news is the Eagles Defense allowed almost 500 yards from Eli Manning and the Giants Offense, considered one of the worst Offenses in the league.

There is concern, and the rest of the league’s analysts see a big concern. We see more of a Defense that was on its third road game, coming off two tough opponents in the Seahawks and Rams. We do expect the players and coaches to recover back to the very strong level they were weeks ago.

At this point, if the Eagles win one of their last two games, and the Vikings lose one game, the Birds have home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Todd throws out the comparison of stats between Carson Wentz and Nick Foles. Amazing how close these two guys are. Quarterback controversy? LOL

EaglesFanCast 228 - Bittersweet NFC East Champs

Talk about an up and down Sunday of football. The Philadelphia Eagles enter their second road game on the west coast after losing the previous week to the Seattle Seahawks. The Los Angeles Rams, helmed by quarterback Jared Goff had a 9-3 record and poised for their run at the playoffs, with a lot to play for. Play they did, and so did the Eagles in a brawl of a football game, with ultimately the Eagles besting the Rams 43-35, and clinching the NFC East.

    A time for celebration!

    But wait, there’s more!

Unfortunately among the celebration was the realization that potential MVP quarterback Carson Wentz tore his ACL in his left knee. Lost for the season, and well over half of the 2018 calendar year.

Gut punch. Kick in the gonads. A full-on stomach flu feel for Eagles fans the world over.

So now the Eagles have backup quarterback Nick Foles taking the team forward from here on out this season. Nick Foles led the Eagles previously, and had much success. He now has more weapons than he had before.

The Eagles are 11-2, and have the hapless New York Giants this Sunday. Now the Eagles are playing for the #1 seed in the NFC for the playoffs.

We said at the beginning of this season that if the Eagles did not make the playoffs, we would consider this season a failure. They met that goal. The rest is fun. We should not be down, we have an amazing team, are 11 and freaking 2, and have seen some great football so far. This ride is not finished yet. Hang on, it may be bumpy though.

EaglesFanCast 227 - Winless in Seattle

The beginning of the Philadelphia Eagles west coast trip did not go as planned. Our Birds dropped the game to the Seattle Seahawks 24-10, and dropping their nine-game winning streak in the process. The loss leaves the Eagles with a 10-2 record, and still a win away from clinching the NFC East. Several factors came together such as fumbles, play calls, and coach Doug Pederson not challenging an illegal forward pass, to make plenty of fodder for the naysayers around the league.

But this Eagles team will be ready for the Los Angeles Rams this coming Sunday. Todd and Chuck believe the Eagles team will use this week in Anaheim to come to terms with the team they are, and where the mistakes were made, and how they missed opportunities to win in Seattle. We feel the Eagles will bounce back big time and level the Rams. Steve, on the other hand, said the Seattle loss has made him much more nervous about the Rams game than he was before.

Either way, Eagles fans are expected be arrive in force for the game in Los Angeles, much like they did when the Eagles played the Chargers last month.

The NFC East will belong to the Birds in Green, and with that the start of a new winning streak. Let’s do this, Eagles fans!
