I just recently read the list of the 2007 winners of the National Jewish Book Awards. Many of the winners are on my to read list such as Spiritual Radical: Abraham Joshua Heschel in America, 1940-1972. However, I was shocked to learn that I had not heard of the winner for Fiction or any of the finalists in that category for that matter. So I am adding the following books to my list:

It is so very dangerous to walk into a bookstore. Here are two of the newest books that have been added to my list of need to read at some point.


I saw this one a few days ago. I listen to A Prairie Home Companion on occasion, I like it when I listen but I'm not hooked like many other shows on NPR, and I have never read any of his books. So as I picked up this up I didn't know what to expect. But it had the most perfect and funny openings I have ever read.



The title and the cover made this book look interesting.

I just entered a contest to try to become a host of an NPR show (probably the most awesome job I could ever hope for). Click here to hear and rate my submission. I talk about the famous four chaplains of WWII and how the memorialization of their story helped to create a Judeo-Christian America and all of the factors that should be considered today when looking at religious pluralism in the United States. There was a two minute time limit so I really didn't get to say all I wanted to, and as it was I had too speak pretty fast. I would have liked to have been able to talk about my family history and interfaith family statistics in general and give some more specific examples about the different ways that interfaith relations can be examined. Oh well. Hopefully I left the listener wanting more. Also, the audio was recorded a bit too low. So turn up the volume on your speakers when you listen to it. I hope it is good enough to get me to the second round. I would really like feedback, let me know what you think of it here or on my entry page.
