In the spirit of the last stanza of the Black National Anthem, we rise from the past, rooted deeply in the soil of ancestral struggles, to build a home, to claim our space. On Native Land Pod, Angela Rye, Tiffany Cross, and Andrew Gillum guide us through the political landscape, wielding insights and unapologetic analysis, unraveling the threads that connect Black Americans and marginalized communities to a place they courageously call home. In each episode, Angela, Tiffany and Andrew embark on a journey of reflection, taking stock of the news of the week and the country's road to the polls. Join us each week as we navigate the dance between past and present, weaving a narrative of hope, empowerment, and the unyielding strength that defines the journey to reclaim 'Native Land.' This isn't just news analysis; it's a movement, a conversation, and a testament to the power of those who dare to rebuild and redefine the meaning of home. Talk to us: Tiffany Cross @tiffanydcross Angela Rye @angelarye Andrew Gillum @andrewgillum
Rep. Ayanna Pressley on Reparations and Democratic Party Strategy.
Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley does not mince words; if you are not a part of the resistance then you are a part of the problem. In this interview with hosts Angela Rye, Tiffany Cross, and Andrew Gillum, this progressive Democrat outlines her frustrations with her own party and what she believes that fight against Musk and Trump should look like.
Part of the fight is not giving up on the Black agenda! Amidst this assault on DEI, Congresswoman Pressley and some of her colleagues have put forward a national reparations bill. Read more about H.R. 40 here: https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/house-bill/40

With all the litigation attempting to stop Trump, Musk and DOGE–this week hosts Tiffany Cross, Angela Rye, and Andrew Gillum ask: do these court cases even matter?
We like to think that there are three co-equal branches of government, the legislative, the executive, and the judicial. But ith one of his latest executive orders, Trump has made it clear that he believes his word is the law. So even if the Supreme Court rules against him, will he respect that ruling?
Elon Musk says that DOGE is going to hand out $5,000 checks to taxpayers after they make huge cuts to the federal government. Is this how Republicans win the messaging war, by cutting us a check while they sell our government for parts?

NLP Hosts CLAP BACK to Kendrick Super Bowl Haters
Hosts Tiffany Cross, Angela Rye, and Andrew Gillum ask: how is it that some Black folk become so heinously anti-Black?
We saw it on full display after Kendrick’s halftime show, when a clip went viral of this dude talking about how lame the show was for his white friends… OK. Is this just for attention? Is he a Drake fan? What explains this??

The House is on FIRE! Democrats React to COUP feat. Congressman Frost.
This week hosts Tiffany Cross, Angela Rye, and Andrew Gillum address the Trump/Musk power grab, which has swiftly become a constitutional crisis.
Joined by Representative Maxwell Frost (Florida-10), the hosts have some tough questions about what Democrats are doing to limit Trump and Musk’s overreach. Why did they let a plain clothed, skinny white man keep them out of the Department of Education?? Congressman Frost, a former activist and first Gen Z congressional representative, thinks he knows EXACTLY what Democrats must do.
Why is this a constitutional crisis? Well, in defiance of the congressional “power of the purse,” Elon Musk’s DOGE continues to consolidate power, and in defiance of court orders from the judiciary, Trump’s executive orders (like the federal funding freeze) are in full swing and having real world impact. The executive branch is staging a coup, usurping power from Congress and the courts, and threatening the balance of power that has maintained U.S. democracy for 250 years. Let’s talk about it!

Representative Lateefah Simon (CA 12th district) was there last Friday when an unknown man calling himself a “federal employee” blocked members of congress from entering the Department of Education. Simon and more than a dozen Democratic members of Congress were trying to speak with the head of the DOE after Trump and Elon Musk made clear their intentions to eliminate the department. She details congress’ ongoing efforts to limit Musks’ attempts to dismantle government agencies.

When one branch of the government chooses to blatantly ignore another co-equal branch of government, what you have, fam, is a constitutional crisis.
Trump’s Executive Branch is disregarding court orders that go against his far-reaching executive orders. What happens when the president disobeys the courts? Angela breaks down the legal process for what is SUPPOSED to happen next.

How to fight back. Where are the Dems? Fed employees purged.
Are the Dems fighting? They might be starting to. Are the people fighting? Not enough. Between the end of DEI, migrants deported to Guantanamo, Federal payment systems seized and more–y’all got a lot of questions about The Fight. Hosts Tiffany Cross, Angela Rye, and Andrew Gillum will respond. We cannot afford to sit out Trump 2.0, the Black community will be impacted first. You gotta know your role.

An email has gone out to 3 million+ federal employees–virtually the entire federal workforce–offering them a buyout to resign. The subject line read “Fork in the Road,” just like the email Elon Musk sent to Twitter employees during mass layoffs. What are the consequences and will those who accept the buyout lose their retirement?
We’ll end the episode with a special tribute to our #1 sports reporter: Tiffany Cross.
