In the spirit of the last stanza of the Black National Anthem, we rise from the past, rooted deeply in the soil of ancestral struggles, to build a home, to claim our space. On Native Land Pod, Angela Rye, Tiffany Cross, and Andrew Gillum guide us through the political landscape, wielding insights and unapologetic analysis, unraveling the threads that connect Black Americans and marginalized communities to a place they courageously call home.

In each episode, Angela, Tiffany and Andrew embark on a journey of reflection, taking stock of the news of the week and the country's road to the polls.

Join us each week as we navigate the dance between past and present, weaving a narrative of hope, empowerment, and the unyielding strength that defines the journey to reclaim 'Native Land.' This isn't just news analysis; it's a movement, a conversation, and a testament to the power of those who dare to rebuild and redefine the meaning of home.

Talk to us:

Tiffany Cross @tiffanydcross

Angela Rye @angelarye

Andrew Gillum @andrewgillum

Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has called on the left to embrace MTG (Marjorie Taylor Greene), Candace Owens, and other MAGA who have disowned Trump. On its face, it might seem like a bad idea–MTG in particular has made racist remarks toward Omar on the House floor–but Rep Omar’s logic is hard to argue with. 34:50

After a politician has done something wrong, when do we say they are redeemed? When do we let them back in? Of course it’s different if it's a public figure like a politician vs. just a friend, but are there red lines where we never allow them back again?
There’s been a spate of members of Congress credibly accused of fraud, sexual misconduct, and assault. Who is redeemable and why, and what must they do? We’ll get into specific examples with our hosts Angela Rye, Andrew Gillum, and Bakari Sellers, along with guest-host Joshua Doss from HIT Strategies.

Congressman Eric Swalwell has dropped out of the California governors race and resigned from Congress (under pressure from his Democratic colleagues) after multiple women accused him of sexual assault. Did they oust him too soon, should allegations be enough to kick someone out? It’s a tough conversation to have post-MeToo Movement, but necessary: how should we respond to credible allegations against politicians that haven’t yet been proven? Where do we draw the line?

Baltimore County Police Officer Derek Hadel was called to do a wellness check on Samuel “Big Sam” Brown last month. The encounter ended with the officer knocking Brown into the pavement, causing severe brain damage, and eventually death. Officer Hadel is under investigation for police misconduct.
It turns out this isn’t the first time Officer Hadel has been investigated for misconduct. In 2023, he crashed a police car in a “preventable at-fault” incident, but maintained his employment.
Host Angela Rye’s guest for today is DJ Quicksilva. Big Sam was Quicksilva’s tour manager and is running the Justice For Big Sam campaign.
CALL THE BALTIMORE ATTORNEY GENERAL, ask them to press charges on Officer Hadel: (410) 576-7070

Viral-comedian Druski’s video mocking conservative women, particularly Erika Kirk, was spot on. It certainly caught the attention of viral-idiot Jake Paul, who mused on Theo Von’s podcast that he ought to do a blackface version of Druski’s skit.

President Trump has been exhausting audiences around the world with his alarming statements about the war in Iran, simultaneously signaling a desire for peace, while threatening to “end a civilization” if they don’t “open the f*cking strait.” His erratic flip-flopping even has MAGA talking heads calling for his removal from office using the 25th amendment.

President Trump has made headlines across the world for doubling down on threats to “send Iran back to the stone age” and bomb ALL of their infrastructure: railways, powerplants, bridges, etc. Destroying civilian infrastructure is a war crime according to the Geneva Conventions (which apparently doesn’t mean anything anymore).
Even Conservatives like Tucker Carlson, Majorie Taylor Green, and nut-case-in-chief Alex Jones have expressed alarm at Trump’s threats. In today's episode, host Angela Rye takes us on a journey into the mirror world of conservative media, to see how they’re responding to Trump's war with Iran.
Iran has promised to retaliate against attacks on its infrastructure by attacking the oil and water infrastructure of neighboring gulf countries, which would likely cause a global humanitarian and economic catastrophe.

The Supreme Court heard arguments from the Trump administration this week to end birthright citizenship, the automatic granting of US citizenship to anyone born in the USA. It’s been a busy week in court for Trump: a federal judge said the ending of PBS/NPR funding was unconstitutional. Another Judge ordered him to halt construction on the White House Ballroom. Yet another Judge ruled that the Trump administration must restore legal status for thousands of detained/deported immigrants.
In addition, the Supreme Court heard arguments from the Trump administration this week to end birthright citizenship, the automatic granting of US citizenship to anyone born in the USA. Their argument centers around the 14th amendment, which was originally created to guarantee citizenship for formally enslaved African Americans.
What do we do when our favorite artists show conservative? Chilli, from the legendary girl-group TLC, was outed recently for donating to Republicans. She’s denied being “MAGA” but her online activity shows otherwise. How do we hold Black artists like her, Nick Cannon, Usher, 50 Cent, and others accountable without discounting what their work means to us?
