Hello fellow detectives, today's mystery, or mysteries I should say, remain unsolved. The beauty in these things is that they could be solved at any point in time though which fills my cold heart with joy. We’re going to cover 10 mysteries! Inspired by an article I read from treehugger.com called “10 of the World’s Biggest Unsolved Mysteries” by Brian Nelson, updated on October 3rd, 2024 so very recently. We have a lot to cover and honestly almost all of these I had never even heard of before so let’s go ahead and dive into the first one on the list that lives rent free in my head. We’re actually probably going to cover the first five tonight and the next five on the next Bren episode because I don’t want to rush these. Let’s go!

Fatal familial insomnia (FFI) is a rare genetic condition that affects your brain and central nervous system. It causes you to have trouble sleeping (insomnia), memory loss (dementia) and muscle twitching. FFI is degenerative, which means symptoms get more severe over time. Symptoms of the condition are life-threatening and there’s no cure. Studies are ongoing to find treatment options to reduce the progression of symptoms and extend the life of people diagnosed with this condition.

In this episode we look at a case in which a murder was captured from a skull that was fished out of the lake by two boys. This case ended up being solved and leading to a killer that would not have been caught without the use of bone forensic analysis. In addition, forensic entomology is discussed briefly to showcase how insects can be used in criminal cases.
