FIFA Insight Live: A Training Centre Podcast

Throughout the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the FIFA Training Centre is taking you inside the game like never before. This fly-on-the-wall audio experience puts listeners inside the car with a team of experts from the FIFA Technical Study Group (TSG) as they travel to all 64 matches at the FIFA World Cup. Members of the TSG will break down the match they've just watched and provide unrivalled technical insight that isn't available anywhere else. Episodes are available soon after every match. These conversations happen frequently behind closed doors in football, but are rarely heard by the public. Throughout the FIFA World Cup, that is all set to change.     Argentina and Lionel Messi are world champions!

    In a breathtaking encounter, Messi and his opposite number Kylian Mbappe turned on the style to give us a FIFA World Cup Final for the ages.

    Messi scored twice, while Mbappe became the first man since Sir Geoff Hurst to score a hat-trick in a FIFA World Cup Final.

    63: Third Place Play-Off: Croatia 2-1 Morocco
    After losing out in the FIFA World Cup semi-final to Argentina and France repsectively, Croatia and Morcco went head-to-head to claim a third-place finish in Qatar.

    Croatia came out eventual winners to equal their second-best FIFA World Cup finals finish third, but Morocco make history as the only African team to get so far in the competition.

    France are on the brink of becoming the first team since Brazil in 1962 to retain the FIFA World Cup after defeating Morocco 2-0 in the semi-final.

    Didier Deschamps' side now faces Argentina in the final on Sunday, setting up what promises to be a tantalising spectacle. On one side will be the mercurial talents of Kylian Mbappe and on the other, the inspired genius of Lionel Messi.

    Reigning FIFA World Cup holders France took one step closer to retaining their world champions crown as they edged out England in a thrilling quarter-final clash.

    After enjoying the best of the first-half, the French side had to weather the storm as England dominated after the interval, but eventually did enough to win the game through Olivier Giroud's header.

    Harry Kane, who had earlier scored a penalty to draw England level and also equal Wayne Rooney's record goal tally for the Three Lions, also blazed another spot-kick over the bar as France eventually won the game to progress to the semi-final.

    59: QF: Morocco 1-0 Portugal
    Morocco became the first ever African nation to reach a FIFA World Cup semi-final as they defeated Portugal 1-0 in a tense, dramatic affair.

    From being tournament underdogs at the start of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the Morocco team are now just one game away from creating even more history.

    Their victory means it looks like the end of the road for Cristiano Ronaldo at FIFA World Cups with the Portuguese star, at 37, probably playing his last game for his country.

    58: QF: Netherlands 2-2 Argentina (AET, Argentina win 4-3 on penalties)
    Lionel Messi and Argentina kept their FIFA World Cup dream alive as they advanced to the semi-finals at the expense of the Netherlands.

    In a dramatic game, Argentina had been ahead 2-0 with just seven minutes remaining. But after pulling one back, Netherlands equalised after 10 minutes of added time. That sent the game into extra-time and eventually penalties where Emi Martinez saved twice to help Argentina on their way to a 4-3 shoot-out win.

    Croatia reached their second consecutive semi-final at the FIFA World Cup as they defeated Brazil on penalties after a thrilling encounter.

    The game had been goalless until extra-time, when Neymar thought he had won it for the Samba Boys. But Croatia continued to probe and got their reward when Bruno Petkovic levelled on 117 minutes, sending the game to penalties.

    Brazil saw two of their spot kicks saved before Marquinhos struck the post to send Croatia to the semi-final.

    Gonçalo Ramos announced himself on the international syage with a thrilling hat-trick to send Portugal cruising into the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals at the expense of Switzerland.

    All the talk had been about Cristiano Ronaldo being benched, but come the referee's final whsitle, it was Ramos who had stolen the headlines.

    Morocco pulled off another shock at the FIFA World Cup, this time defeating Spain on penalties to advance to their first ever quarter-final.

    It means they will face Portugal in a historic occasion for the country and are the only remaining team from Africa at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

    54: R16: Brazil 4-1 Korea Republic
    Brazil took a huge stride forward in their journey to be crowned world champions with an emphatic and thrilling victory over Korea Republic.

    The game was over as a competition within 30 minutes as Brazil raced in a 3-0 lead before adding a fourth before half-time. Korea Republic eventually secured a consolation goal, but it's the Samba Boys who steam ahead in the quarter-final of the FIFA World Cup, where they will face Croatia.
