- 1 hour 1 minuteHow to Balance Ultra Training With a Busy Life, Fix Race-Day Stomach Issues, and Build Mileage Safely | Q&A Episode
Training for an ultramarathon isn’t just about logging miles — it’s about figuring out how to fit those miles into a real life that includes work, relationships, responsibilities, stress, and everything else that comes with being a human.
In this Q&A episode, I’m answering listener questions on some of the biggest challenges everyday ultrarunners face: how to balance training with a busy schedule, what to do when GI issues hit on race day, whether the 10% mileage rule actually matters, how to plan long run routes based on time instead of distance, and more.
This episode is packed with practical takeaways to help you train smarter, troubleshoot problems before they ruin your race, and build a training plan that actually fits your life.
In this episode, you’ll learn:
- How to know if your ultra goal actually fits your current life schedule
- Why “just making time” for training can backfire if you ignore recovery
- The biggest mistake runners make when trying to balance work, chores, and big mileage
- How to troubleshoot race-day GI problems before they spiral
- Why hydration and sodium may be the hidden cause of your stomach issues
- Whether the 10% mileage rule is actually useful — or completely overrated
- How to increase mileage based on your body instead of a generic rule
- A simple way to plan long runs when your training is based on time
- Why the sauna can be a powerful tool — and when it can become too much
- How to use heat training without wrecking the rest of your running week

19 May 2026, 1:35 am - 58 minutes 15 secondsCocodona 250 in 2026 and The Biggest Lessons: Belief, Strategy, and How to Save Your Race
Cocodona 250 delivered some of the most inspiring performances in ultrarunning — and inside those performances are lessons every ultrarunner can use, whether you’re chasing a podium, a PR, or simply trying to reach the finish line.
In this episode, I break down the biggest takeaways from this year’s Cocodona 250, including what Rachel Entrekin’s historic overall win and Kilian Korth’s men’s course record can teach us about belief, preparation, execution, and resilience in long ultras.
Because in races this long, fitness matters — but it’s not the only thing that determines your result. Your mindset, aid station strategy, fueling plan, decision-making, and ability to problem-solve when everything goes wrong can be the difference between a breakthrough and a DNF.
In this episode, you’ll learn:
- Why “unreasonable” goals might be the exact thing that help you level up
- How to pair big belief with the actions required to actually make it real
- The two biggest keys to faster, more efficient aid stations
- Why sometimes a calculated risk can save your entire race
- How to know when to fix a problem immediately versus keep moving
- Why you don’t have to eat real food in long ultras if your fueling plan works
- How good weather can trick you into making bad race-day decisions
- Why a bad stretch early in a 100- or 200-mile race does not mean your race is over
This one is for any ultrarunner who wants to race smarter, believe bigger, and become harder to break when things get tough.

19 May 2026, 12:20 am - 1 hour 10 minutesRachel Entrekin and Kilian Korth on their Cocodona 250 Recap
Rachel Entrekin and Kilian Korth just rewrote what we thought was possible at Cocodona 250.
Rachel became the overall champion, set the overall course record, and won Cocodona for the third time, making history in not only this race, but in the sport.
Kilian won the men’s race, set a new men’s course record, and overcame many years of challenges at this race to become the fastest male to ever ran the course.
In this episode, we sit down with Rachel and Kilian right after their historic performances to talk about what actually happened out there: the chase, the pressure, the doubts, the lows, the breakthrough moments, and what it takes to perform at the highest level in a 200+ mile race.
Things we discuss:
- The moment Rachel decided to take the lead at mile 60 — and why she refused to wait for anyone else
- What it felt like for Kilian to chase “a ghost” for nearly 200 miles
- How Rachel ran up Mount Elden to make a statement — when most runners would be surviving
- The pressure of being counted out, doubted, underestimated, or given an “asterisk”
- Why Kilian believes 200-mile racing is not just “whoever is fastest”
- The difference between being in pain and letting pain mentally break you
- The 20-minute rule Rachel uses when something starts going wrong in a race
- How Rachel and Kilian turned doubt into fuel
- Why impossible goals might be more realistic than your spreadsheet says
- What this race proved about human potential, belief, and the future of ultrarunning

9 May 2026, 8:54 pm - 49 minutes 53 secondsHow to Run Farther, Achieve Bigger Running Goals, and Push Through Hard Things | Live at the Boston Marathon Expo
This episode is a special one — it was recorded live at the Boston Marathon Expo during an episode of For The Long Run.
I joined Jon Levitt for a conversation all about what it really means to “go farther” — not just in running, but in life. And whether you’re chasing your first 5K, trying to PR your marathon, stepping into ultras, or taking on a goal that scares the hell out of you, this episode is all about helping you believe that you’re capable of more.
In this episode, we talk about:
- How running helped me go from addiction to 7 years sober
- Why “going farther” doesn’t always mean running more miles
- How to choose goals that scare you in the right way
- Why failure is never really failure if you learn from it
- How to use hard moments in running to become stronger in life
- Why your “why” matters when things get hard
- The power of self-talk when you’re deep in the pain cave
- How to approach uncertainty, fear, and big goals with confidence
Huge thank you to Jon Levitt and For The Long Run for having me on, and to Mount to Coast for hosting this live event at the Boston Marathon Expo

1 May 2026, 1:28 am - 1 hour 3 minutesThe Science of Nutrition, Gut Training, Supplements, and Performance with Dr. Emily Dow
Are you actually fueling enough to support your ultramarathon training… or are you unknowingly sabotaging your performance?
In this episode, I’m joined by Dr. Emily Dow: nutrition scientist, strength and conditioning specialist, educator, and content creator who helps athletes cut through the BS and understand what the science actually says about performance nutrition.
And this conversation is a must-listen for any ultrarunner who wants to train harder, recover better, avoid GI issues, and stay healthy long-term.
We dive into why “lighter is better” can be a dangerous mindset for endurance athletes, how underfueling can wreck your recovery and adaptations, what runners need to know about iron, fiber, gut health, and supplements, and how to properly train your gut to handle more carbs during long runs and races.
In this episode, we cover:
- Why underfueling is one of the biggest performance limiters for endurance athletes
- The problem with chasing race weight or “lighter is better”
- Signs you may not be eating enough to support your training
- Supplements that may actually be worth taking — and which ones may not be
- Why probiotics and greens powders might not be as useful as people think
- How fiber impacts gut health, longevity, and performance
- How to train your gut to tolerate more carbs
- Whether gels every day are bad for long-term health
- Why health, recovery, and performance are all connected
Huge thank you to Dr. Emily Dow for coming on the show and sharing so much science-backed insight for ultrarunners and endurance athletes.

24 April 2026, 10:58 pm - 52 minutes 31 secondsHow Running on Roads Can Make You Stronger on Trails
A lot of trail and ultra runners think more vert, more technical terrain, and more climbing is always the answer.
Not so fast.
In this episode, I break down why running on roads, flat ground, and non-technical terrain can actually make you a better trail runner and ultrarunner. From improving running economy, to building durability, to helping you handle runnable sections in races better, this is a huge piece that a lot of runners overlook.
If you’ve been wondering how to balance specificity with smart training, this episode is for you.
In this episode, we talk about:
- Why hammering vert too early can actually hurt your training
- How road running can improve durability, efficiency, and turnover
- When flat training makes more sense than steep climbing
- How to know whether your limiter is fitness, durability, or climbing strength
- When to shift from less specific training to more race-specific vert and technical work
If you train for trail and ultra races, this one could completely change how you think about your buildup.
