HoboTrashcan editor Joel Murphy and his longtime friend Lars Periwinkle discuss the latest in pop culture and their lives. With a slew of celebrity interviews under his belt and his access to television and movie screeners, Joel offers a knowledgeable perspective on pop culture while Lars is the voice of the people ... provided that the people are really into Batman, Doctor Who and Star Wars.
Joel Murphy and Lars Periwinkle are once again joined by Molly Regan to break down the 2025 Academy Awards.
They go through all 10 Best Picture nominees and share their thoughts on Best Actor/Actress, Best Director and Best Short Films.
And, for some reason, they can’t stop talking about M. Night Shyamalan’s 2024 film Trap.

Josh Ruben already won the hearts of Dropout subscribers as one of the original “Noise Boys” on Game Changer and Make Some Noise.
Now, he’s making noise as the director of Heart Eyes, a horror/romcom hybrid that he hopes will be his Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives. The film has already been enthusiastically embraced by fans; earning over $20 million at the global box office in its first two weeks in theaters.
We talk to Ruben about the film’s tricky tone, how he created such a memorable opening sequence and his desire to continue making Dropout content regardless of how busy he gets.

God spoke to Moses through a burning bush. Zeus appeared to the Spartan queen Leda as a swan. But for Natalie Kalen on Severance, her gods — the Lumon Industries board — speak to her through a bluetooth earpiece.
We spoke to Sydney Cole Alexander, who plays Natalie on Severance, about the temptation to ask Ben Stiller to do “Blue Steel” when he’s directing her on set, Severance‘s many mysteries and that scene from season two, episode three where Natalie presented Seth Milchick with a gift from the board.

Carol Kane has had a legendary career forming on-screen comedy duos with the likes of Bill Murray, Billy Crystal and Jack Nicholson. She’s back doing it once again in Between the Temples, where she stars opposite Jason Schwartzman in what feels like a lost 1970s Hal Ashby film.
We talk to Kane about beating up Bill Murray with her wings in Scrooged, working with John Cassavetes and Gena Rowlands in a play and her bucket list dream of working with Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro.

After facing backlash over being cast as an Asian character in Ghost in the Shell and a trans man in Rub & Tug, Scarlett Johansson stated in an interview that “as an actor I should be able to play any person, or any tree, or any animal.”
In response, Asian actor Chris Grace decided that he should play Scarlett Johansson. His one-person show, Chris Grace: As Scarlett Johansson features him in a number of absurd wigs discussing Johansson’s career and Hollywood’s long history of whitewashing.
We talk to Grace about this hilarious and poignant show, which is now available to stream on Dropout.

The members of the Belfast hip hop group Kneecap had every reason to be skeptical in 2019 when they were approached by someone claiming to be a filmmaker who wanted to tell their story.
Luckily, over many, many pints of Guinness, writer/director Rich Peppiatt was able to talk Moglaí Bap, Mo Chara and DJ Provaí into telling their story in a kinetic, entertaining biopic that hits theaters tomorrow.
We chatted with the band and writer/director about the film, the fight to get Irish recognized as a language in the north of Ireland and the chaotic decision to release a new album and movie simultaneously.
