Episode 121: Shrek (with Francis Horton of What a Hell of a Way to Dad)

SOMEBODY once told me Soundtracker was back, and today it's talking about Shrek, the (apparently) very divisive 2001 animated film about an ogre and his donkey friend. And I'm joined once again by Francis Horton (@whatahellofawaytodad.com on Bluesky and @armystrang on Twitter ) to talk about it. In this episode we talk about the innocence of a pre-9/11 world, a pre Mike Myers burnout world, and a world where Smash Mouth was king. I also make a bold proclamation about All Star. Check it you, you stupid dunkey!

Episode 120: Jackass: The Movie (with AK Lingus)

Hi, I'm Eric Peacock, welcome to Soundtracker...where today I'm joined once again by AK Lingus (@aklingus.bsky.social) to talk about what Jackass says about modern male trauma. Just kidding, we're mostly talking about how funny it is seeing guys get hit in the nuts for 90 minutes. It's what they would have wanted as they prepare to ride off into the sunset with the final movie, which also releases today.

We do delve into some of what shifted in the general consensus from when Jackass first began (hand-wringing over how it was corrupting the youth) to where it is today (a beloved institution that is much smarter than it should be), but mostly we just talk about how funny it is when Johnny Knoxville says things like "I have bursitis". So put on your thong, break out the Party Boy theme, and let's go, because I kinda feel like partying right now.

Episode 118: The Faculty (with Brandon Sutton of The Discourse and Majority Report)

I'm closing out Halloween with THE FACULTY, which has thankfully grown a big following in the years since it released. And joining me is Brandon Sutton (@prettybadlefty on both Twitter and Blue Sky) who has some really great reads on the themes of the movie. We also talk about Josh Hartnett's haircut, the cast, the soundtrack, and a whole lot of other things. So do some drugs from a Bic pen and give it a listen.

Episode 115: Gone in 60 Seconds (with Alex Goldman and Juniper of the Western Kabuki podcast)

Well, I'm still here! And today I'm joined by Alex Goldman (@AGoldmund) and Juniper (@CantEverDie) of Western Kabuki (@WesternKabuki)--which began its life as a Nicolas Cage podcast--to talk about GONE IN 60 SECONDS, which I hadn't seen since it first came out, and actually hated back then. Do I like it now? You'll have to listen to find out! (Yes, I do).

In this episode we talk about what an incredible name Memphis Raines is, the incredible cast, the great car stunts, the one piss poor CGI stunt, Angelina Jolie's extremely Y2K hairstyle, Delroy Lindo, and the shockingly good soundtrack. So check it out, and remember: it never Raines, it pours.

So, in case this podcast vanishes next week, I should explain why it's been delisted.

If you don't follow me on Twitter, or you just missed it, I'm in the midst of a completely frivolous trademark dispute with some guy who records the sounds of crickets in the snow. I'll explain better in the episode. Hopefully I'm still here next week, and I can finally post the GONE IN 60 SECONDS episode, which was supposed to come out today. Love you all!

Episode 114: Above the Rim, with Coley Mick and Trill Withers (of the Third Time's the Charm podcast)

Today is a big one for the show. First of all, it turns 3 today. Oh, and also, I finally FINALLY get to talk about my favorite soundtrack of all time, ABOVE THE RIM--which just so happens to also soundtrack a very good movie. Oh, and ALSO, I'm joined by the very funny duo that makes up the Third Time's the Charm podcast, Coley Mick (@ColeyMick) and Tyler (you know him as Trill Withers, or @TylerIAm on Twitter), who bring their knowledge of basketball and horny R&B music for a very funny episode.

In this episode we talk about Tupac's charismatic menace as Birdie, the very well-done basketball scenes, Wood Harris, and in a first for the show, we talk about the soundtrack for even longer than we talk about the movie itself. And what a soundtrack it is. Besides the monster singles (Regulate and Afro Puffs), it has a mix of sunny R&B, more great rap offerings (including my favorite Tupac song of all time, Pain), another of my all-time favorite 90s soundtrack songs (Blowed Away by B Rezell) and a smattering of very horny songs to keep things honest. And the entire soundtrack is available on all streaming services, including the 3 songs that you could only find on the cassette version of the soundtrack. Which is something I talk about at great length in the episode. But you'll have to listen to the episode to hear it. Don't do it for me. Do it for Nutso.

Episode 113: Repo Man, with Jeff "The Helldude" Computers (of ALAB Podcast)

The Helldude (@allahliker on Twitter, @helldude.bsky.social over on Bluesky) returns, and this time we're shifting gears from DEEP COVER to REPO MAN, the essential sci-fi punk comedy. In this episode we talk about the long road to this movie becoming the cult classic it is now, Harry Dean Stanton being the greatest difficult actor who ever lived, the punk soundtrack and a lot more. Listen to it while you're eating sushi (and not paying for it).
