Spinal Tap Moments
OK Go's new album, "And the Adjacent Possible," delivers a full-on OKGo-ian video for the song Love that rivals the legendary videos that put them on the map including A Million Ways, The One Moment, Upside Down & Inside Out and, of course, the GOAT - treadmill extravaganza Here It Goes Again.
Not to be outdone, the TMEP Show has its own VIDEO featuring the Danimal, OK Go drummer Dan Konopka, telling us about his staredown with the Muppets' Animal and getting intimate with Miss Piggy.
WATCH HERE: https://youtube.com/shorts/D7uznjLaGzI
Known to his friends as Piss Bucket Dan, Konopka goes deep to reveal Spinal Tap Moment stories that include being held for suspected drug possession while crossing the Canadian border; performing a tooth extraction on a Snow Patrol fan; and insulting Jerry Cantrell's songs that were some of Alice in Chains's most iconic hits.

Among auspicious April events in rock 'n' roll history, April 13, 1983, is the date that Violent Femmes released their beloved, eponymous first album and gifted the world with Blister in the Sun, Add It Up, Gone Daddy Gone, and other instant classics. The album has ascended to the status of "generational hand-me-down" according to Violent Femmes founding member and our fellow Milwaukeean, Brian Ritchie.
April 5, 1994 is the date that Nirvana's Kurt Cobain passed away. Both topics loom large in this conversation with Brian.
Watch our VIDEO where Brian describes how Nirvana was selected to open for Violent Femmes in Austalia, and Kurt's ragged state of mind even in those early days.
WATCH HERE: https://youtube.com/shorts/usGs3M3atlY
Plus the Femmes are touring this year, so what better time re-share Brian's stories about his band living through every scene in This Is Spinal Tap in real life; their big break being discovered by The Pretenders while sidewalk busking in Milwaukee; and his 3-word secret to success..."Just keep going."

People Have the Power: A Celebration of Patti Smith is taking over Carnegie Hall on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. Luminaries including Bruce Springsteen, Michael Stipe, Courtney Barnett, Sharon Van Etten, Ben Harper, Kim Gordon, Flea, The National's Matt Berninger, Susanna Hoffs, Chrissie Hynde, and many others are participating in the festivities.

And, damn, if this epic event didn't make us think about our VIDEO with Amy Brenneman telling her story of a very awkward encounter while trying to snap a selfie with Patti in front of a live audience at Stephen Stills' Autism Speaks event. Word to the wise...don't do it!
WATCH HERE: https://youtube.com/shorts/DwbYjiVEg68
Plus, in this episode Amy recounts being the first person ever to take off their clothes on network TV; offbeat moments with legends Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Jeff Bridges, John Lithgow, Joel Grey, and Sylvester Stallone; and, in all seriousness, what it means to be a good man in show business (and anywhere else).

With the Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary still freshly in the rearview, we're revisiting our conversation with the OG Californian himself, Fred Armisen. Also, Fred's heading out for a Spring '25 tour - info on his IG @sordociego.
See our VIDEO where Fred unpacks the non-endearing quality of stars getting fussy over food in the dressing room.

This episode includes stories about hazardous driving incidents while filming Portlandia; meeting Prince at SNL; and why he wishes that, back in day, his attitude would have been "more Jesus Lizardy" about his band Trenchmouth becoming successful.

In recognition of Kurt Cobain's February birthday (he would have been 58 on 2/20/25), and 30 years since the release of Garbage's first album with the hits songs Stupid Girl and Only Happy When It Rains, we're bringing back our epic conversation with fellow Packers fan Butch Vig.
Catch the VIDEO with Butch recalling a raucous night at the Hollywood Palladium with the Butthole Surfers and L7 where he lost Nirvana, and Kurt Cobain took a long walk home.

This episode includes stories about how Garbage was once forced to play a gig middle of the night in a Serbian castle; why the band's lead singer Shirley Manson nearly didn't pass her audition; and the fact that band members ALWAYS lose 20 IQ points when they go on tour.

Allen and his band, Happiless, put out a song — Hopscotch Town — way back in 2014 that sounds pretty prescient today. It's about a place where the people in charge convince the people they rule that economic prosperity trumps individual freedom. Sound familiar? And when will those egg prices come down, anyhow? Hopscotch Town is a catchy piece of pop confection wrapped around a big chunk of poison. Give it a listen. Then take action!

Before January wraps, let's celebrate that 39 years ago this month on January 18, 1986, the Replacements got banned for life from SNL. In the middle of playing "Bastards of Young" on live TV, singer Paul Westerberg yelled to guitarist Bob Stinson, "Come on, F*cker!" during this guitar solo.
In a combo platter of VIDEO and audio featuring one of our favorite guests, Tommy Stinson tells the story of yet another rowdy New York incident when the band played at the legendary CBGB. When the God of Thunder, Gene Simmons from KISS, walked in the Replacements decided that being on their worst behavior was exactly what the occasion called for.

Tommy's on tour! In this episode, the Minneapolis kid who grew up playing bass in one of rock 'n' roll's most notorious bands talks about wearing dresses while opening for Tom Petty; Rock in Rio with Guns N' Roses in front of 500,000 fans and not being able to hear a thing; and the weather-induced fear of encountering a TORDANO on the road.

The TMEP Showoffs are getting into show business, and especially the motion picture business, by finally posting VIDEOS featuring some of our favorite guests. Feel the tug at your heartstrings as Zia McCabe from the Dandy Warhols shares the story of her emotional encounter with personal hero Willie Nelson at the Glastonbury Festival.
WATCH HERE: https://youtube.com/shorts/OobVtKwGuQg
In this early TMEP Show episode, Zia tells us about touring with her baby daughter on the bus; her dual life as a rockstar and real estate agent; and how to throw an epic house party while writing off the drugs and booze on your expense report.

In this holiday episode, our friend Corin Tucker from Sleater-Kinney tells about the time she and bandmates Carrie Brownstein and Janet Weiss reluctantly abandoned their punk instincts and wrapped "gifts" for an uncomfortably phony photo shoot. Then host Alex Hofmann returns to a Christmas past when Radiohead flew him to their post-Pablo Honey holiday party in England...and Ed O'Brien had to nurse him back to health.

If you know the movie “This Is Spinal Tap,” you will certainly recall the moment Spinal Tap bassist Derek Smalls describes himself as the band conduit, "David and Nigel are like poets, you know, like Shelley or Byron, or people like that. The two totally distinct types of visionaries, it’s like fire and ice, and I feel my role in the band is to be kind of the middle of that, kind of like lukewarm water.” Well, on today’s Quick Tap, our guests tell us about the times they left puddles of themselves for a higher purpose. Songwriter Freedy Johnston introduces Lou Reed and Joey Ramone; author and rapscallion Scott Nathan recounts the time he connected Leonardo DiCaprio to a Martin Scorsese flick; and The Pulsars Dave Trumfio reminisces about how he got a rise out of Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher with rock legend Cynthia Plaster Caster.
