This wildly important episode focuses on the Bowen Turner case, highlighting a series of alleged failures within the South Carolina justice system that allowed a man accused of multiple rapes to be released from prison AGAIN. Christa, who was nine weeks pregnant at the time of her death, was strangled to death according to investigators. It’s yet another instance in which a woman’s cause of death is presented to law enforcement as a suicide when evidence points to homicide.

Medical records from that day say her husband — pastor JP Miller — called one of Mica’s mental health providers at 10 a.m. to say that Mica had stolen JP’s credit card, snuck out of the house while he was sleeping, gone ot Dick’s Pawn Shop that morning, purchased a gun, received a lesson on how to use it and then tried shooting herself in their front yard. And, like with most everything else in this case, JP’s account contains inconsistencies, contradictions and raises a lot of questions. Such as could Mica have done all of that in less than an hour?
Mandy and Liz talk about that and what else is contained in the medical records from that day. Also on the show, an update on the Nautilus case — WILL ALEX MURDAUGH AND CORY FLEMING BE REUNITED?!?
Plus, Alex finally settled the Mallory Beach boat crash civil liability case and an update on the Beach family’s second civil conspiracy case and their request for a judge to step down. Investigative reporters Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell celebrate Alex Murdaugh’s biggest loss yet … one that will effectively keep him behind bars for the rest of his life.
Also on the show, Buster Murdaugh triples down on his defamation claims against Netflix and Hampton County reporter Michael Dewitt. In a federal filing this week, Buster argues that — though he left out the context of Dewitt’s words in his original filing in South Carolina — including all of Dewitt’s interview on “Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal,” actually helps strengthen his claim. Plus, the drama outside Solid Rock Ministries church in Myrtle Beach has NOT calmed down. On Sunday, pastor JP Miller was accused of assaulting a protester dressed as Jesus, and protesters were accused of harassing JP’s alleged paramour by shouting “demeaning” comments at her.
Mandy and Liz also took a look at the FOIA logs for Myrtle Beach and Horry County police departments to see who was seeking information on Mica Francis. And what they found was shocking: Before her death, Mica was seeking public information from the police … and they gave her next to nothing.

Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell take on the Good Ole Boys once again, starting with lawyers who knowingly file frivolous lawsuits. Last week Myrtle Beach pastor JP Miller and his attorney Russell B. Long filed a defamation complaint against a paralegal who said he called her law office in search of a divorce attorney who could “destroy” his wife, Mica Francis, whose body was found in a North Carolina swamp last April.
Not only is it laughable that JP believes this hurts his already-bad reputation, the complaint doesn’t articulate that anything the paralegal stated as fact is untrue. Also on the show, a newly released report from Horry County Police Department shows that JP Miller was accused of bestiality this past June. What?!?! We'll share all that we know about this public document and our ongoing fight with Horry County to release all that can be according to SC state law.
And Mandy and Liz take a look at the checkered past of Mica Francis’ psychiatrist … Dr. Duchesne... the one who seemed to take JP’s narrative as fact. Note: Mandy and Liz both pronounce Dr. "Duchesne" as they interpreted/researched it but its the same person...

Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell continue their coverage of two appeal hearings heard last week in the case of thrice-accused rapist Bowen Turner and his sweetheart plea deal.
Today. listeners will get to hear Part Two of the Chloe Bess interview, where she talks about what it was like being in the courtroom and on her thoughts about how the system continues to coddle and make excuses for Bowen, who sexually assaulted her as a teenager.
Also on the show, Mandy and Liz begin sharing their findings from the stack of medical records leaked to them in the Mica Francis case, starting with the first few months of 2018, the year of Mica’s first alleged suicide attempt. From the get-go, Mica’s marriage to Myrtle Beach pastor JP Miller was defined by a questionable mental health diagnosis that continues to plague her memory to this day, five months after her death. Records from January through March 2018 show that Mica had immediate doubts about this diagnosis and a — despite her husband’s insistence that she remain compliant with her medication — JP himself was playing pharmacist.

The Bowen Turner case in South Carolina has been one for the outrage records. Listeners across the country have been horrified as they watched the justice system coddle Bowen over and over while the thrice-accused rapist gave his second, third and fourth chances the middle finger. But now, something good could come from the case — a case that included the horrific bullying of Dallas Stoller, one of his accusers. Bullying that resulted in her death.
Something good might come from Bowen’s 2022 sham of a plea deal hearing — orchestrated by a cunning lawyer-legislator, executed by a prosecutor blinded by ambition and approved by a Good Ole Boy judge. Change might be coming because of an appeal filed by another one of Bowen’s accusers, Chloe Bess.
Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell take a look at the historic filing and what went down during oral arguments in front of the state Court of Appeals on Tuesday. The state’s victims bill of rights affords victims the opportunity to be heard in court. In trials, victims can testify before a verdict is rendered — before a potential conviction. But in plea deals they’ve been restricted to being heard only after the judge has accepted the pleading — only AFTER the conviction. Chloe Bess and her legal team are trying to change that … to finally make victims’ rights MEANINGFUL.

Leaked medical records from Mica Francis’ in-patient and outpatient visits to mental health facilities were leaked to the public over the past week, and investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell are diving in. According to the records — some of which were sent directly to Luna Shark Media and others that were posted online by a TikToker sympathetic to JP Miller’s plight — Mica was confused about her diagnosis and its symptoms.
At the same time, these records raise questions about how Mica was being treated and where clinicians were getting some of their information about her alleged behavior. In one report, the clinician notes that Mica recognized the need to “listen to her husband when he raises concerns.”
Also on the show, one of the two appeals in the Bowen Turner case is set to be heard and it’s a big deal.
Next week attorneys representing one of Bowen’s victims — whom he pleaded guilty to assaulting — will argue that the prosecution and defenses deprived her from her constitutional right to be present at Bowen’s plea hearing.
