TEEN ATHLETE SERIES: How much is too much when it comes to teen sport?

The pressure from different sports, all the school sessions, and possibly a teen that wants to play it all. How do you know what's enough and what's too much? Nathan Parnham works specifically in teen athlete development, and knows the simple things you can look at as a family to work out where the line needs to be. And you can bet that we'll be asking our kids to jump on one leg and do some forward rolls after this chat!

You can follow Nathan @youthsportexpert and check out his resources at www.nathanparnham.com.

TEEN ATHLETE SERIES: Wellbeing and the whole athlete approach with Sharyn Donaghy

Sharyn Donaghy works with elite athletes on a daily basis and will tell you that a lot of them are missing the foundational skill sets to thrive outside their sport. It's nothing to do with their physical skills or their times. Instead, it's everything to do with the structures, practices and belief in yourself outside of sport - mental health, sleep, career development, financial literacy and social connection.

If you have a teen who plays sport, it's so important to listen to this conversation.

You can follow Sharyn for more great advice on Instagram at Educate to Elevate. We highly recommend it!

TEEN SPORT SERIES: Boys, sport and the manosphere with Neil Davis

83 percent of Australians are concerned about the influence of the manosphere on boys and young men. In 2008, Neil Davis lost his 17 year old son, Sam, to an unprovoked one-punch attack at a party in May 2008. Since then Neil and his wife, Nat Cook, have channelled their profound grief into a mission of prevention. They established the Sammy D Foundation in Adelaide and for over two decades have been working with schools, clubs, coaches, parents and young men. Neil joins us to talk about the role sport can play in helping boys navigate conflict, respect, masculinity, and peer pressure in healthier ways. And given the influence of the manosphere, this sort of conversation has never been more important.

TEEN ATHLETE SERIES: The concussion questions that keep us up at night

If you're anything like us, when you're watching your child playing a contact sport from the sidelines, concussion is something that you'll have in the back of your mind. To make sure you have all the information you need, this week we're talking to Dr David Hughes - AIS Chief Medical Officer and the Chair of the Australian Olympic Committee Medical Commission. He takes us through it all - head injury vs concussion, the way concussion can happen (it's not just a head hitting something), symptoms, and the evidence around when to play and when to sit it out. We promise you'll learn something - we sure did!

For the most up to date information on concussion, head to www.ausport.gov.au/concussion

TEEN ATHLETE SERIES: Food and Sport with Sports Dietitian Ali Miles

Do you have a child or teen playing sport in your household? Then this series is for you!  We know that families are busy, that the school year is racing by, and it's hard to find time to source the experts. So we've brought together some of Australia's brightest minds to talk about the issues that impact sport loving families, and give you some easy tips to help everyone stay playing.

Our first guest is Accredited Practising Dietitian, Advanced Sports Dietitian and founder of The Fuel School, Ali Miles. Ali works with every type of athlete - from the elite winter Olympians (like Scotty James) and Paralympians, to elite netball teams (hello Sunshine Coast Lightning) to teens who play lots of sports to kids just trying to eat a better lunchbox. This is not just a conversation for teens on performance pathways - if you have a teen or child who has a lunchbox or fights with you about breakfast (surely it's not just us?), you need to tune in.

    An emergency Enhanced Games debrief

The Enhanced Games happened this week and do we/Libby have thoughts. Bottom line? It actually did sport a great service. Maybe we're saying thank you this whole circus? We'll get back to you on that. Libby is being honest about her sideline feelings (she's only human) and Georgie has gone off one sports documentary but found another. Come join us (and tell us all your thoughts about Enhanced Games!).

parkrun's Tim Oberg is ready to help get kids running

Do you know the story of how parkrun ended up in Australia? Or that dogs used to be registered to run? Or that Australia has made it our own? Neither did we until we caught up with parkrun Australian's founder, Tim Oberg. Tim was the person who brought largest free running activity to Australia and grew it to what it is today. And now he's ready to help kids find a love of moving their body through the RAD Run Club.

On any given Saturday morning, around 6000 Australians volunteer to ensure parkrun runs smoothly and we would like to shout out this amazing community contribution this National Volunteers Week. Thank you for being the heart and soul of this regular cultural event.

    A wake-up call for Australian women's sport

The ABC and Deakin University recently released the findings of a survey of elite female athletes and the results say a lot about the work still to be done in women's sport. In some parts, there seems to be progress. In others, the results are grim. Regardless, we wanted to bring in the ABC's Deputy Editor Amanda Shalala to unpack the numbers for us and remind us why these sorts of surveys are so important in the women's sport landscape.

Brisbane Lord Mayor on kid's parks and the legacy of Brisbane 2032

Brisbane City Council is the 2nd biggest council in the southern hemisphere and part of the team pulling together one of the largest sporting events in the world, Brisbane 2032. And you know how much we're into the Olympics. Soooo, this week we asked Brisbane's Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner to drop into the studio and talk to us about how we involve kids in parks and what legacy we can expect from Brisbane 2032. Not from Brisbane? DOESN'T MATTER. If you have a council, you need to listen.
