Joe Wilkinson & David Earl's Daily Podcast
David’s recently fallen I love with the long running Radio 4 comedy panel show, I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue. He reckons it’s the ultimate comfort listen and also one of the funniest shows he’s heard in ages. So today he wants to take Joe on a deep dive into everything about it and also have a go at playing the game themselves. Joe also tells David about doing some radio comedy himself and David recounts the time he wrote a radio sketch for Griff Rhys Jones.

Joe’s filming in London at the moment, very near to Camden. Which is where his wife Petra used to live when they first dated and also where he spent a lot of time gigging in his early comedy days. He had a magical morning walking around the area and reminiscing - so discussing all of that with David takes up the first half of the episode. Joe’s morning also gave him an idea for a game they can play, where they randomly select a UK location and immediately have to recount any memories they have from that town or city. So that’s the second part of the show sorted. Enjoy!

Time for some more of your emails. And this week, we have messages about a disappointing Deftones quip, a disgraceful affair in the 90’s, a lot of ladies fancying Joe Wilkinson, a meatball recipe enquiry, filling time at Delhi airport, a very impressive Chewbacca impression and the birth of a potential new Chatabix section - Fix My Quip. Happy Friday!

Picking up from yesterdays’s episode, David grills Joe about his Cokey Z relapse, they do some research into which food and drinks are healthy (and which aren’t), Joe suggests a new format idea for the pod and they rather ambitiously ask ChatGPT to come up with a thousand name suggestions for it - spoiler alert, it refuses. One of their favourites from the ten it does manage to come up with is ‘Only Me Then’ - but you’ll have to listen to find out what the idea is.

David’s been to see the brilliant Alex Lowe performing as Clinton Baptiste at the Brighton Dome, which he absolutely loved. But the whole evening got David thinking about how bad a live Chatabix show would be in comparison. So once again, him and Joe spend much of the episode talking themselves out of ever doing a live tour of the pod. They also announce Chatabix’s new Patreon-only series ‘Lose Two Stone’ and Joe reveals he’s stared drinking his beloved Coke Zero again. With so much to discuss, they decide to make it double bubble episode - part 2 coming tomorrow…

David’s been listening back to a recent episode of the pod where they talked about a live ‘Ladies Night’ show of Our Little Systems - and found himself utterly unbearable. Despite having fun at the time, he now thinks he came across as very pleased with himself indeed and wants to analyse the episode with Joe to work out where it all went wrong. And it turns out Joe’s not too impressed with his behaviour either. So prepare yourself for quite a bit of uncomfortable squirming and self-loathing. Classic Chatabix.

Another episode randomly selected from the Chatabix archives. And in this one, we talked about Dermot, crap jobs, being ignored, and magicians / golfers.

In today’s selection of slightly baffling emails from the Chatabix Mailbag, there’s a picture of Joe with Joe Mahler, some celebrity holiday spots, a telling off story, Peter Andre’s brother, Helen Mirren’s bath, Chris Eubank’s phone number and a missing gall bladder.

We kick off today’s show with a debrief about yesterday’s trip to the Crawley Industrial Estate - which Joe absolutely loved. But it did make David realise how much of his time working there he spent daydreaming. And it turns out Joe did too, when he still had a full time job and was doing stand-up in the evenings. Then they do some more reminiscing about their 20’s, find out if there are any warthogs in the UK and discuss the strange trend of Burlesque performers in comedy clubs.

David’s staying near Crawley for a few days, so he’s taking the opportunity to visit the industrial estate where he had quite a few jobs in his 20s and early 30s. It’s the perfect occasion for an ‘on-location’ episode, so he’s called Joe on Zoom to join him for the adventure. So get ready for a lovely little trip down memory lane - featuring none other than the A-Plant offices and a number of other important locations from Chatabix folklore.
