In 1996, a troubled 16-year-old boy named Rod Ferrell believed he was a 500-year old-vampire. He formed a small group of local teens in Murray, Kentucky obsessed with vampire roleplaying, blood drinking, and occult beliefs. The roleplaying took a serious turn when Rod broke into the home of Richard Wendorf and Naomi Ruth Queen - the parents of clan member Heather Wendorf - and beat them to death. What followed became a media sensation, and has been remembered as the Vampire Clan Murders.

Before America had witch trials, Europe had werewolf trials - and they were as dark as they sound. One of the most infamous cases of time was that of Peter Stumpp, a man who was convicted and executed for serial murder, cannibalism, incest, and practicing black magic to transform into a werewolf. On January 12th, 1888 during an unusually mild winter day, a sudden and deadly storm descended onto the American Midwest. Hurricane force winds, blinding snow and plummeting temperatures caught hundreds completely off guard. The historic storm was nicknamed the Children’s Blizzard or the Schoolhouse Blizzard as many of the victims were children attempting to find their way home through the storm from their one-room schoolhouses. While hundreds perished, stories of brave teachers and students alike emerged in the aftermath.

It’s hard to get an entire National Park to hate you … unless your name is EC Waters. Considered one of the most despised men to have ever stepped foot in Yellowstone, Waters left his mark - for better or worse - on the world’s first park. The owner of the first boating company to operate on Yellowstone Lake, he was obnoxious, petty and ran a zoo from hell. He was kicked out of the park multiple times before being exiled forever, but his namesake - a ship that bears his name - can still be seen in Yellowstone today.

In June 1979, a group of U.S. Forest Service employees and volunteers boarded a routine flight into the remote Idaho backcountry to begin another summer season at the Moose Creek Ranger District. They never arrived. When both engines of their DC-3 failed over the narrow Selway River canyon, the pilots fought to keep the powerless aircraft in the air as the passengers prepared for the worst. What followed was a remarkable story of survival, an enormous wilderness rescue effort, and an investigation that uncovered the failures behind the deadliest aviation disaster in U.S. Forest Service history.
