I Am the True Vine | Midweek Prayer (John 15:1–2, 4–5)

Fruitfulness doesn’t begin with striving. It begins with remaining.

In this short midweek prayer, we return to Jesus’s words in John 15, where He says, ā€œI am the true vine… you are the branches.ā€ This guided Christian prayer invites you to slow down, breathe deeply, and reflect on what it means to abide in Christ.

Jesus reminds us that apart from Him, we can do nothing. We are not responsible for manufacturing spiritual fruit on our own. Our role is to remain—connected to the Vine, trusting the Father as the Gardener, and allowing Him to prune what no longer serves His purposes in our lives.

Pruning can feel uncomfortable. But it is never careless. It is always loving and purposeful, leading toward deeper growth and greater fruitfulness.

Take a few quiet minutes today to rest in this truth: your responsibility is to remain. The fruit is His work.

    John 15:1–2, 4–5 (NIV)

2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.
4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

    I AM the True Vine | John 15:1-2, 4-5

As Lent continues, Jesus invites us to consider where true life and growth actually come from.

In this sixth meditation of our Lenten series, I AM: A Lenten Journey with Jesus, we slow down with Jesus’s words in John 15:
    ā€œI am the true vine.ā€

Spoken on the night before His arrest, this image comes from the conversation in the upper room where Jesus is preparing His disciples for what is ahead. He knows they will face confusion, grief, and uncertainty. And instead of giving them a strategy for survival, He gives them a picture of connection.

    He is the vine.
    We are the branches.
And apart from Him, we can do nothing.

Jesus also reminds us that the Father is the gardener—the One who tends, cares for, and prunes the vine. While pruning can sound painful or unsettling, it is never careless. It is purposeful. It is loving. It is meant to produce even more fruit.

This guided Scripture meditation invites you to reflect on what it means to remain in Christ—to abide, to stay connected, to make your home in Him. Through slow readings of John 15:1–2, 4–5, you will be guided to listen, reflect, respond, and rest—allowing Jesus to remind you that fruitfulness flows from closeness, not striving.

Lent reminds us that abundant life is not something we manufacture on our own. It grows naturally as we remain rooted in the One who is the source of life.

I Am the Way, the Truth, and the Life | Midweek Prayer (John 14:1–6)

When our hearts feel troubled, Jesus invites us to trust Him again.

This short midweek prayer creates space to pause, breathe deeply, and return to Jesus’s words in John 14:1–6, where He says, ā€œI am the way, the truth, and the life.ā€ In this guided prayer, we acknowledge the places where worry, uncertainty, or longing have unsettled our hearts and bring them honestly before God.

Jesus reminds us that we are not alone—that He is with us, that He is preparing a place for us, and that He will return for us. As we pray, we ask for help to trust Him more deeply and to follow Him in the way He has already made clear: to love God fully and to love our neighbors as ourselves.

Take a few quiet minutes to slow down, listen for God’s invitation, and rest in the presence of the One who leads us in truth and life.

I AM the Way, the Truth, and the Life | John 14:1–6

In this fifth meditation of our Lenten series,Ā I AM: A Lenten Journey with Jesus, we slow down with Jesus’s words in John 14:1–6:
ā€œI am the way, the truth, and the life.ā€

Jesus speaks these words on the night before His arrest. The disciples are gathered in an upper room, sensing that something is wrong but not fully understanding what is coming. Fear, confusion, and grief are already beginning to settle in. Into that moment, Jesus does not offer explanations or timelines. He offers comfort, presence, and promise.

He tells them not to let their hearts be troubled.
    He invites them to trust.
And He reminds them that He is preparing a place for them—and that He will come back for them.

When Thomas admits that he does not know the way, Jesus responds with clarity and compassion. He does not point to a path. He points to Himself. He is the way we follow, the truth we hold onto, and the life that sustains us.

This guided Scripture meditation invites you to bring your own uncertainty, questions, or unsettled places before God. Through several slow readings of John 14:1–6, you will be guided to listen, reflect, respond, and rest—allowing Jesus’s promise to steady your heart and remind you that you are not walking alone.

Lent reminds us that when the way forward feels unclear, Jesus remains near. He goes before us, prepares a place for us, and faithfully leads us home.

I Am the Good Shepherd | Midweek Prayer (John 10:11–15)

This midweek prayer is an invitation to pause and return to Jesus’s words in John 10, where He says, ā€œI am the good shepherd.ā€

In this short prayer, we take time to remember who Jesus is for us—a Shepherd who knows His sheep, stays with them, and lays down His life for their sake. We reflect on the ways He has already cared for us and ask Him to help us know Him more, so we can follow Him more closely.

This prayer also acknowledges that there are real challenges and threats we face. Jesus names the danger, but He also reminds us that He does not abandon His sheep. He stays. He protects. He leads.

As we pray, we entrust ourselves again to the Shepherd who never walks away and ask Him to guide us through this day and this Lenten season.

Take a few quiet minutes to refocus your heart on Jesus as the Good Shepherd and pray along with me.

    Today’s Scripture

    John 10:11–15 (NIV)

11 ā€œI am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
12 The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it.
13 The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.
14 ā€œI am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me—
15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep.ā€

I AM the Good Shepherd | John 10:11-15

In this fourth meditation of our Lenten series,Ā I AM: A Lenten Journey with Jesus, we slow down with Jesus’s words in John 10:11–15:
    ā€œI am the good shepherd.ā€

These words come right after last week’s meditation. Jesus is still addressing people who were confused about who they could trust—people who had felt overlooked, misled, or poorly cared for by spiritual leaders. Into that confusion, Jesus deepens the image He has already given.

Jesus contrasts Himself with the ā€œhired hand,ā€ someone who may appear present but runs when danger comes. A hired hand does not stay when things become costly. But Jesus makes clear that He is different. He does not abandon the sheep. He knows them by name. And He willingly gives His life for their good.

This guided Scripture meditation invites you to reflect on where you may be placing your trust—whether in people, systems, or structures that cannot ultimately hold you. Through several slow readings of John 10:11–15, you will be guided to listen, reflect, respond, and rest—allowing the truth of Jesus’s steady, sacrificial care to settle into your heart.

Lent reminds us that we are not left to protect ourselves. We are known, loved, and cared for by the Good Shepherd who never runs away.

I Am the Gate | Midweek Prayer (John 10:7–10)

This midweek prayer is an invitation to pause and return to Jesus’s words in John 10, where He says, ā€œI am the gate.ā€

In this short prayer, we create space to trust Jesus as the One who stands guard over our lives—protecting us and leading us toward the life He promises.

Jesus tells us that while there are voices and forces that seek to steal, kill, and destroy, He is the Gate who keeps watch over His sheep. He is present with us, surrounding us with His care, and inviting us to live from a place of trust rather than fear.

This prayer also turns our attention to Jesus’s promise of life—life that is full, abundant, and rooted in His presence. As we pray, we surrender what feels threatening or overwhelming and ask Him to renew our hope in the life He offers.

Take a few quiet minutes to refocus your heart on Jesus as the Gate and pray along as we continue this Lenten journey together.

    Today’s Scripture

    John 10:7–10 (NIV)

7 Therefore Jesus said again, ā€œVery truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep.
8 All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them.
9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture.
10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

    I AM the Gate | John 10:7-10

Lent continues by inviting us to consider not only where we are going, but who we can trust along the way.

In this third meditation of our Lenten series, I AM: A Lenten Journey with Jesus, we slow down with Jesus’s words in John 10:7–10:
    ā€œI am the gate.ā€

Jesus offers this image in response to growing confusion and distrust among the people. Many had been poorly cared for by religious leaders and were unsure who to listen to or where to turn. Speaking into this uncertainty, Jesus uses a picture His listeners would have immediately understood—the shepherd and the sheep.

At night, sheep were gathered into a sheepfold with a single opening. The shepherd didn’t simply stand guard nearby. He laid his own body across the entrance. In doing so, he didn’t just protect the gate—he became the gate.

When Jesus says, ā€œI am the gate,ā€ He is revealing Himself as the One who guards, protects, and gives safe passage. He is not a barrier meant to confine us, but a presence that allows us to come in and go out freely—to live securely and find pasture.

This guided Scripture meditation invites you to imagine yourself within this scene and reflect on where you may be longing for safety, clarity, or care. Through several slow readings of John 10:7–10, you will be guided to listen, reflect, respond, and rest—allowing Jesus’s promise of protection and abundant life to settle into your heart.

Lent reminds us that we don’t have to determine what is safe or life-giving on our own. Jesus invites us to trust Him as the gate—the One who leads us into real and lasting life.

I AM the Light of the World | Midweek Prayer (John 8:12)

This midweek prayer is an invitation to pause and return to Jesus, the Light of the World.

This short midweek prayer invites you to pause, breathe deeply, and refocus your heart and mind on Jesus, who says, ā€œI am the light of the world.ā€ Drawing from John 8:12, this prayer creates space to name the places that feel dark, confusing, or hidden—both in the world around us and in our own lives.

In Scripture, light is a sign of God’s goodness, presence, and life. Jesus tells us that when we follow Him, we do not have to walk in darkness, because His light leads to life.

This prayer invites you to ask Jesus to be light in the places you’re carrying—and to listen for how He may be inviting you to reflect His light through the way you love and live.

Take a few quiet minutes to refocus your heart on Jesus and pray along as you seek His light in and through your life.

In this second meditation in our Lent series, I AM: A Lenten Journey with Jesus, we slow down with Jesus’s words in John 8:12:
ā€œI am the light of the world.ā€

Jesus makes this declaration during the Feast of Tabernacles, a celebration that remembered how God guided His people through the wilderness with a pillar of fire—a visible light in the darkness. When Jesus speaks these words, He is doing more than offering comfort or guidance. He is revealing who He is: the very presence of God, now shining with and among His people.

Light is something we often don’t notice until it’s missing. When life feels confusing, when the path ahead is unclear, or when the weight of the world feels heavy, darkness can feel overwhelming. Jesus’s words meet us right here—not as a distant light shining from above, but as a light who walks with us and leads us toward life.

This guided Scripture meditation invites you to reflect on Jesus’s words in two ways. First, you’ll be guided to notice areas in your own life that may feel hidden, uncertain, or shadowed. Then, you’ll turn your attention outward, holding the places in our world where it feels like darkness is winning and listening for the hope Jesus offers there as well.

Through several slow readings of John 8:12, you will be guided to listen, reflect, respond, and rest—allowing the truth of Jesus as the Light of the World to shape how you see your life and the world around you.

Lent reminds us that we do not have to figure everything out on our own. We are invited to follow the Light, one faithful step at a time.

I Am the Bread of Life | Midweek Prayer (John 6:32–36)

In the middle of the week, it’s easy to become aware of our emotionally, spiritually, physically, and feel unsure where to bring it.

This short midweek prayer invites you to pause, breathe deeply, and return your attention to Jesus, who calls Himself the Bread of Life. Drawing from John 6:32–36, this prayer creates space to name the places where you feel hungry, weary, or longing andĀ

In Scripture, God provided daily bread for His people in the wilderness just enough for each day. In the same way, Jesus offers Himself to us now. Not always for tomorrow. Not always all at once. But faithfully, for today.

This prayer is a gentle reminder that Jesus is enough for your real, present needs.

Take a few quiet minutes to refocus your heart and mind on Him, and to rest in the truth that you are held, seen, and cared for.

    Today’s Scripture

    John 6:32–35 (NLT)

32 Jesus said, ā€œI tell you the truth, Moses didn’t give you bread from heaven. My Father did. And now he offers you the true bread from heaven.
33 The true bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.ā€

34 ā€œSir,ā€ they said, ā€œgive us that bread every day.ā€

35 Jesus replied, ā€œI am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.ā€
