In this episode of Guerrilla History, we bring back our friend and comrade, Sarah Jilani (whom you will remember from our episode Subjectivity and Decolonization in the Post-Independence Novel and Film) to discuss one of our favorite topics - Fanon. Specifically here, we are talking about two articles that Sarah wrote, the first being Fanon's psycho-politics of decolonisation, a fascinating scholarly article that came out in the Review of African Political Economy (ROAPE). We then talk about a ROAPE blog piece that Sarah cowrote titled Fanon, Gaza and the anxieties of empire which was a response to members of the British government and diplomatic corps denigrating Fanon and even calling out Sarah by name in doing so. A really fascinating discussion, and the articles are really great too so be sure to check them out!

Sarah Jilani is a Lecturer in English at City, University of London. She is the author of several articles on postcolonial literatures and film that have appeared in Textual Practice, Interventions, and Journal of Commonwealth Literature, amongst others, and a widely published culture journalist. Navid's book manuscript, National Liberation in an Imperialist World: Race, Counterrevolution, and the United States, traces the U.S. national security state's evolution by examining how U.S. officials responded to national liberation movements at home and abroad from the 1950s to 1980.

In this session of Peacemongers we had the honor of having Salvatore Engel-Di Mauro and Henry Hakamäki on, the translators of Guillaume Suing's "Communism, the highest state of ecology" from iskra books. We dive into the different parts of the book and a surrounding discussion about ecology, biology and socialism. We explore the ecological experiences of Cuba established in the 90's, the so-called "special period" after the overthrow of its ally and trading partner the Soviet Union. What contradictions there are within Cuba at that point and its conditions for realizing a transformation on a massive scale. We discuss the not so linear history of the Soviet Union through the lens of ecological development. A country often demonized as ecologically destructive in a totalizing manner, while the historical data throws a wrench in that narrative. The book also delves into a discussion about biology and genetics, how scientific theories are politicized in the polemic of the sides in the cold war and why the marxist philosophy of dialectical materialism is useful for understanding evolution and biology. On the topic of this book we discuss the relationship between imperialism and ecology, history and science. How research is weaponized, weather historical or scientific to fit the narrative of the vampire like beast of capitalism and fascism. In this episode, Adnan discusses Professor Gabriel Rockhill's new book, Who Paid the Pipers of Western Marxism, v. 1 of The Intellectual World War. This incredibly important book contributes an insurgent foray, a guerrilla attack, against the imperial theory industry and its ideological work in the psychological, intellectual war that is central to the perpetuation of imperialist capitalism of our era. This first volume lays out a crucial method and approach, a way of performing intellectual history through dialectical and historical materialism, while exposing the relationship between the deep state/permanent state forces that have patronized a compatible left culture and the wider systemic network of institutions where intellectual and cultural production takes place. The work goes on to examine some important figures particularly in the so-called "Frankfurt School" and situate these thinkers/scholars and their work within the imperial theory industry. It is a fascinating conversation about an profoundly important new book. We look forward to further volumes in this important series on the Intellectual World War.
