- 38 minutes 34 seconds5 Training Principles w/ Ultra Race Director Sarah Scott | S2 Ep26
On this episode of the Texas Outlaw Running Talk Show, Aaron is joined by Texas Outlaw Running Hybrid Race Director Sarah Scott for another edition of Training Lab.
Sarah breaks down several core principles that can make the difference between simply having a training plan and actually following through with it.
They talk about accountability, maintaining the right attitude when training gets uncomfortable, and why runners have to take ownership of the work even when nobody else is watching.
The conversation also gets into integrity in training — doing the workout you said you were going to do, being honest about your effort, taking recovery and nutrition seriously, and building habits that hold up even when a coach or training partner isn’t there.
Sarah also explains why progress is rarely linear. Good weeks, bad weeks, injuries, plateaus, fatigue, and recovery are all part of improving as a runner. A temporary slowdown doesn’t necessarily mean your training isn’t working — sometimes your body simply needs time to adapt to a new level of fitness.
Whether you’re training for your first 5K, preparing for an ultra, coaching athletes, or simply trying to become more consistent, these principles apply at every level.

This week on the Texas Outlaw Running Talk Show, Briston and Aaron break down another wild week in trail and ultra running.
They check in on the Big’s Backyard Ultra World Team Championship as the field gets smaller, countries battle for the team lead, and some of the best backyard runners in the world continue answering the bell.
The conversation also turns to the rapid growth of women in trail running, why the sport may be attracting more female runners, and what race organizations can learn from that momentum.
Then they talk about Courtney Dauwalter’s pursuit of an Olympic Trials marathon qualifying time, two runners who hit Olympic Trials standards only to learn their performances may not count, and Francesco Puppi somehow missing a major course record by just one second.
The episode closes with Hugo Deck winning one of the toughest mountain ultras in the world in his first-ever 100-mile race — raising the question of just how much 100-mile experience really matters when elite talent, fitness, and patience come together.
21 October 2026, 9:00 pm - 34 minutes 7 secondsTaco Bell Ultras, 475-Mile Races & Moab Flooding | Trail Running & Ultra News 10-16-26
This week on the Texas Outlaw Running Talk Show, Briston and Aaron break down some of the biggest and strangest stories happening in trail and ultra running.
They start with the Taco Bell 50K, a 31-mile run built around stopping at Taco Bell locations, eating along the way, keeping your receipts, and somehow surviving without Pepto. Briston gives his verdict on whether he would ever attempt it.
Then the conversation turns serious with the Moab 240 cancellation, severe weather, flooding, stranded runners, and the difficult decisions race directors have to make when safety takes priority over finishing.
They also recap Cody Poskin’s impressive win at Kodiak by UTMB before previewing the Big’s Backyard Ultra World Team Championship, including athletes and countries to watch.
The episode closes with a bigger question: as backyard runners push toward 400, 500 and potentially even more miles, where is the actual limit of human endurance?

On this episode of the Texas Outlaw Running Talk Show, Briston and Aaron dive into some of the biggest conversations happening across trail and ultra running.
They talk about the Moab 240, Kodiak by UTMB, the continued rise of 200-mile events, and whether the growth of major race organizations is pushing trail running away from its grassroots roots.
The conversation also turns to Run Rabbit Run’s massive $300,000 prize purse, what six-figure payouts could mean for professional ultra runners, and whether bigger money ultimately helps or hurts the culture of the sport.
They also discuss anti-doping and drug testing in ultrarunning, weather-related race cancellations and refunds, and the continued growth of backyard and last-person-standing events.
And, of course, Texas Outlaw Running shows off the new 12-inch Outlast finisher medal — because everything really is bigger in Texas.
