He teaches the popular Sleep and Dreams undergraduate course and co-authored the textbook with Dr. William Dement.  He helped lead the effort to delay school start times in California.  He serves in leadership positions for the National Center for Sleep Disorders Research at the NIH, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the National Sleep Foundation, Start School Later, and is the incoming president of the California Sleep Society.
