On September 13, 2015, firefighters responding to a wildfire near Greenwood in El Dorado County, California, discovered a cabin that had burned to the ground. Inside were the remains of 38-year-old Adam Buchanan, his fiancée, 37-year-old Molly McAfee, and their 8-year-old son, Gavin Buchanan. Investigators soon determined this was not simply a tragic fire — all three had been shot before the cabin was set ablaze.

Part 1 looks back at Adam, Molly and Gavin’s final weekend, the devastating cabin fire, the discovery that three members of one family had been murdered, and the investigation that began unraveling what happened in the early morning hours of September 13, 2015.
