Why Reasoning Models Are The Next Leap In AI: Inside MBZUAI's K2-Think

🧠 From Fluency To Thinking: Why Reasoning Models Are The Next Leap In AI

For years, AI progress has been measured by how convincingly machines can talk. The next phase is defined by how well they can think. This conversation explores why that shift matters and what it means for science, industry, and high-stakes decision-making. #MBZUAIPartnership #Sponsored

In this episode, I sit down with Jon Carvill, Vice President of Marketing and Communications at MBZUAI, to discuss the rise of reasoning models and why they represent a fundamental change in how we should judge AI capabilities.

    🎯 WHAT WE COVER:

Why fluency alone doesn't guarantee understanding in high-stakes applications

The critical difference between predicting words and reasoning through problems

How MBZUAI's K2-Think was built for reasoning from the ground up, not retrofitted

What makes reasoning models essential for science, engineering, and medicine

Real-world applications: drug discovery, climate science, financial modelling, and manufacturing

Why openness matters: training data, methodologies, and full transparency

The strategic importance of sovereign AI development for trust and governance

How K2-Think V2 achieves strong performance with clear, explainable reasoning

The connection between reasoning models and world models for physical reality

What this means for the future: moving from conversation to reliable decision-making

Where to try K2-Think and access the full open-source release

🔬 Jon Carvill leads marketing and communications at the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, home to the Institute for Foundational Models (IFM). Their work on K2-Think represents a critical step toward AI systems that can be inspected, trusted, and applied to complex real-world problems.

This conversation reveals why the next generation of AI will be judged by its ability to reason rather than talk, why transparency and sovereignty have become practical requirements for adoption, and how open reasoning models could shape the future of science and industry.

If you are curious to try it, K2 Think is accessible through the public web app at k2think.ai, while researchers can explore the full open releases, including data and training recipes, via IFM’s Hugging Face repositories.

    How AI Is Rewiring Filmmaking

AI is changing filmmaking, because it is shrinking the gap between imagination and a finished frame. 🎥🤖 In this conversation with Samir Mallal and Bouha Kazmi, co-founders of OneDay, we explore how director-led AI workflows are reshaping the creative process, from story development and character choices to building cinematic scenes through rapid iteration.

We talk about why iteration is becoming a creative advantage, how directors can steer generative tools with intention, and why human taste, judgment, and story sense are still the difference between “watchable” and “worth watching.” 🎬🧠 You’ll also hear how they bring traditional craft into AI production, including performance and voice, and why originality at the inception stage matters even more as content volume increases.

We also unpack the big questions around copyright, standards, and trust, and what a more responsible AI filmmaking ecosystem could look like. ⚖️ Finally, Samir and Bouha share why OneDay is raising funds right now, and how they plan to grow while keeping craft at the center. 🚀

If you care about AI video generation, the future of filmmaking, generative storytelling, creative leadership, and where media goes next, this episode is for you.

🚀 AI adoption is surging in 2026, but are organizations actually ready to scale it safely and responsibly?

In this interview, I sit down with Nathan Turajski, Senior Director for Product Marketing at Informatica, to explore the key findings from Informatica’s CDO Insights 2026 report and what they reveal about the next phase of enterprise AI. We discuss why trust in AI is rising faster than readiness, what the AI trust paradox means for leaders, and why data foundations, governance, and literacy will decide who wins with GenAI and agentic AI. 🧠📊🔐

You will learn how leading data teams are thinking about:

✅ The AI trust paradox, confidence vs readiness
✅ Scaling GenAI from pilots to production, and why data reliability still blocks progress
✅ Agentic AI adoption, new risks when systems can act, not just advise
✅ Unstructured data governance, emails, PDFs, transcripts, and the new frontier of trusted context
✅ AI literacy and data literacy: why people are becoming the real scaling constraint
✅ Vendor sprawl and complexity: how tool fragmentation can slow ROI and increase risk

AI Is Coming For Your Job (Even Mine): Fiverr CEO's Brutal Wake-Up Call

When the CEO of a major freelance platform tells his own employees that AI is coming for their jobs, including his, you know we're at a real inflection point. 🚨

I'm joined by Micha Kaufman, co-founder and CEO of Fiverr, to discuss why he delivered such a blunt warning instead of reassurance, the "steam engine on a carriage" problem we're facing with AI right now, why AI giving everyone superpowers means it gives no one superpowers, how velocity (not just speed) becomes the ultimate competitive advantage, what skills will actually matter in an AI-augmented world, and why he's more worried about society's response to displacement than the technology itself. 🤖💼

    How Indeed Uses AI

💼 At Dreamforce 2025, I sat down with Hannah Calhoon, VP of AI at Indeed, and learned what real AI transformation looks like at scale. Indeed serves 615 million job seekers across 60 countries, and they're not just experimenting; they're systematically reimagining work with AI. #Salesforcepartnership #Sponsored

    📊 The measurement-first approach:

Hannah's philosophy is refreshingly practical: "95% of enterprise AI pilots generate zero business value. My job is making sure we're in the 5%." Every department at Indeed picks metrics that matter, then tracks AI's impact relentlessly. Legal cut turnaround time by more than half. Over 80% of software engineers now use AI coding assistants, dramatically improving velocity and code quality.

🤖 Real use cases, real impact:

Take employer support. Linda West, VP of Business Systems, shared that 22% of requests were tied up in routine onboarding and account verification. Now Agentforce agents handle these autonomously - employers can ask in natural language about flagged issues and get guided through resolution in real time. Data Cloud and MuleSoft provide the context agents need for accurate, instant support.

    🎯 The adoption secret:

"You can't just throw AI at people," Hannah explained. While 10-20% are natural early adopters, real transformation requires function-specific training. Indeed doesn't just give tools - they show marketers, lawyers, UX designers exactly which three tools to use and the five most useful ways to use them in daily workflows. The result? 75-80% of Indeed's 11,000 employees now use AI daily or weekly, with 80%+ satisfaction.

    💬 Honest about the journey:

What I appreciated most was Hannah's candor. Some experiments fail. Employees are understandably concerned. The technology evolves faster than anyone predicted. Indeed's commitment? "We're going to bring you along. We'll give you the tools and training so whether your next job is at Indeed or elsewhere, you're ready for this AI revolution."

🔮 On the future of work:

Indeed's economics team has a unique vantage point - they analyze millions of job postings and resumes. Their finding? AI skills are mentioned in low single-digit percentages of postings. About 50% of jobs will see moderate AI transformation, but it's primarily human-AI collaboration, not replacement. "Most people won't become AI engineers - they'll use AI-enhanced versions of tools they already know."

💡 Hannah's advice for any transformation:

Tie AI to metrics that already matter to your business
Don't wait for perfect data - start experimenting with what you have
Invest heavily in role-specific education (more than you think)
Be honest with employees about uncertainty and change

    🚀 The vision:

Indeed is exploring 100 different Agentforce applications to systematically accelerate processes and free teams from repetitive work. The ultimate goal? Cut job seeker hiring time by 50% - accelerating opportunity for millions of people worldwide.

This is the Agentic Enterprise in action: specific use cases delivering measurable value, guided by a transformation strategy that brings every employee along. Not just efficiency - real impact on people's lives.
