What an ending! Ladies and gentlemen of the viewing audience, Apple TV+ has pulled off one of the great series of television, ever (at least we think so)! In The Defending Jacob Podcast Finale, Caroline and Paul go into more detail than usual. Since the finale had many more twists and turns than the usual episodes, we -couldn’t- not talk about all of it!

Stuff we talk about includes:

• The concept of Being a good man or being a good father and how that applies to real life.
• The trip to Mexico And why it was necessary to push Andy and Laurie to their breaking points.
• We also try and catalog and reconcile all of our various predictions throughout the season and how close we got to the mark.

Now that the Barbers’ day in court has come, they have to keep rolling with the punches. Assistant District Attorney Neal Loguidice is no flyweight. In fact, he’s laid a trap for Jacob’s defense to fall right into, that sly guy.

In this podcast, Caroline and Paul/Machine Gun discuss questions like:

• After going through everything with Dr. Vogel, would her finding be of any use during the trial?  And, she clearly has an opinion on Jacob… What else isn’t she telling them?

• No one at Pod Clubhouse was surprised when Matt turned out to be unreliable but was anyone in the universe shocked when we found out he fled to Florida? I mean, he looked so stable and capable of making good decisions and all…

As Jacob’s school year ends, his trial also draws closer. Although Andy appears to trust the defense attorney, he can’t just sit and wait for the court date. He pursues all other leads aggressively in these two episodes, leaving no stone unturned and no tire un-popped.  Where Andy deals with his grief with outward action, Laurie inwardly deals with a burgeoning thought that Jacob could have committed the murder. Wait! Isn’t she supposed to be defending Jacob?

And where’s Jacob? Either at tutoring with his second-grade teacher or playing video games with Sarah. Or sending not-very-deepfake photos of himself as an ax-wielding maniac to Sarah. There’s that, too.

We ask questions like:

• Although Andy made a career as a prosecutor, would he have been a better defending attorney?
• Paul tells a regret-filled tale of having gotten spit on (pre-corona) and asks Caroline how she might have reacted as Laurie when the same thing happened to her.
• Laurie hasn’t cracked yet, but she looks close. Is she going to lose it?
• And, every episode we ask, Who killed Ben? and Why is Andy in front of the grand jury?

AppleTV+, the (relatively) new stream service from Apple came out of the gate with several shows. Jason Mamoa’s See, M. Night Shymalan’s The Servant, and Ronald D. Moore’s For All Mankind to name a few. Then… they had a gap in major, big production serialized narrative programming. They’ve had the banner up for Defending Jacob for months, and since anything with Captain America’s (Chris Evans) picture gets our attention, we decided to check it out.

We’re fans of the actors and the genre. What we found was a slowly burning thriller that focused on a small cast of characters (or suspects?). Listen in as we discuss what we liked, what we thought could have been different. You’ll have to stick around until the end to hear our guesses on who actually committed the murder!

We ask questions like:

• Andy had to tell a secret in these first 3 episodes. Are there more coming?
• Michelle Dockery and Chris Evans are great actors, but do they have chemistry on screen together?
• Finally, Why is Andy (Chris Evans) answering questions in front of the grand jury?
