S2 Ep 2: Identity is shaped in interaction, belonging is shaped within humanity ft Hector Marcel

    Send us Fan Mail

Welcome back to Get to Know You! I’m your host, Tiffeny Farag, and I’m so glad you’re here with me today. I’ve got an incredibly thoughtful and inspiring guest joining us Hector Marcel (IG @wakeupist), President and lead teacher of Three Jewels Enlightenment Studio in New York City, a place dedicated to helping people reach their highest potential through meditation, community, and ancient wisdom applied to modern life.

Today we’re diving into a topic that touches every part of our human experience: how identity is shaped in every interaction we have, and how our sense of belonging ultimately extends to the whole of humanity, not as isolated individuals, but as interconnected beings learning from one another. Through the lens of spiritual practice, Buddhist philosophy, and lived experience, Hector helps us explore the ways our identities evolve through connection, and why belonging is something deeper than any one group or place.

So get comfy, grab your tea or coffee, and let’s explore with curiosity and heart.

Big thanks to my amazing friend Camille El Feghali for the beautiful music you hear throughout the episode. Camille is a Lebanese-Australian multi-instrumentalist and producer based between Beirut and Melbourne, blending traditional Middle Eastern instruments and sounds with modern electronic textures.

    Bonus Anniversary Episode!

We’re kicking off a brand new season — and celebrating 5 years of Get to Know You!
Five years of opening up conversations that matter, and what better way to begin this milestone season than with a deeply human question:

How do we stay connected to ourselves when trauma has tried to disconnect us?

In this heartfelt first episode, we explore the quiet yet powerful concept of interoception — our ability to sense and interpret the internal signals of our bodies. Trauma often shakes this connection, leaving us feeling lost within ourselves. But reconnection is possible — gentle, gradual, and transformative.

This episode invites you into a reflective and compassionate space to explore what it means to return to yourself. Whether you’re healing, supporting others, or simply curious about the body-mind relationship, there’s something here for you.

Thank you for 5 years of listening, growing, and sharing. Here’s to continuing the conversation — together.

Drawing from Robert Greene's insights in "The Laws of Human Nature," Sam emphasized that character is the essence of a person, deeply rooted and reflected in their consistent behavior patterns. Edwardo shared his thoughts on identifying narcissistic traits in individuals, referencing the expertise of Dr. Ramani, a specialist in narcissism from Los Angeles. We'll discuss the different types of narcissists—grandiose, covert, depressed, malignant, and communal—and how to recognize these traits in others. Understanding these characteristics can help us navigate relationships more effectively and avoid potential pitfalls.
Jenny raised an important question about improving self-awareness. We'll delve into practical steps and strategies to help ourselves and others become more self-aware, fostering personal growth and deeper connections.

Cafe 142. Why is long distance dating a waste of time?

    Send us Fan Mail

Welcome back to another episode of Get to Know You Cafe! Today, we're diving deep into the responses we received from our last episode where Chenelle Bremont and I tackled the burning question: "Why is long distance dating a waste of time?"

First up, we have Sofia from California sharing her thoughts. Sofia brings up a compelling point about the tendency for some individuals to always find themselves in long distance relationships. She touches on the idea of emotional unavailability and how it's often linked to the safety associated with the avoidant attachment type. It's a raw and honest perspective that sheds light on the complexities of human relationships.

Next, we hear from Evan from India, who challenges us to think deeper about the distinction between a long distance relationship and simply lacking presence in a relationship altogether. This thought-provoking question prompts us to examine the nuances of connection and intimacy, forcing us to question our preconceived notions.

Lastly, Mercel from Belgium raises an interesting point about vulnerability in long distance relationships. Mercel picks up on something we discussed in the previous episode - how distance can sometimes facilitate a sense of vulnerability earlier on in a relationship. But why does this happen? It's a question that delves into the psychology of intimacy and trust, sparking a conversation that promises to be both insightful and enlightening.

Join me as we unpack these responses and explore the complexities of long distance dating. It's all about getting real, raw, and genuine as we navigate the intricacies of human connection. So grab your favorite beverage, settle in, and let's dive deep into today's episode.
