Lauren and Stef cover Hulu’s Little Fires Everywhere, Episode 5, Duo. This episode shows motherhood through a lens of diversity. One where class, race, age, and socio-economics determine mothers’ decisions in unexpected ways. We see Lexi choosing abortion to protect her reputation, relationship, and future at Yale. Last episode, we experienced Bebe, fearful for her hungry daughter’s life left her baby at a fire station, suffer from deep regret.

We also see Linda, Mirabelle’s adoptive mother deeply sad and scared to once again possibly face the loss of a child she deeply wants and loves. We also learn more of a twist in how Mia came to mothering Pearl, which explains her need to lay low. Elena, a mother of four, even spends some time in New York City; we see her wonder how differently her life could have been had she chosen career-life over her family.

With so many choices to make as a woman, mixed with circumstantial complexity is there a RIGHT way?

    Listen as Lauren and Stef explore these ideas: #abortion #illegalImmigration, #adoption  #identity #workingMothers, #relationships, #affairs and #motherhood

Lauren and Stef break apart Hulu’s Little Fires Everywhere, Episode 4 “The Spider Web”. Unraveled, torn, and controversy, are feelings one could experience after viewing this episode. Our hosts wonder, why is Mia so deeply invested in helping Bebe get Mirabelle back? Why is Elena not revealing her suspicion about Mia’s involvement with Bebe to her best friend, Linda? Is Elena HIDING something more? We question Izzy’s artistic motivation and Pearl’s sudden change of social scene.

Themes of social justice, defending the weak from the strong, are expressed through Mia and privilege vs. underprivileged, are seen through Elena and Linda vs. Bebe. Touchy topics: #adoption, #illegal immigration, #coming out, #relationships, #motherhood and first-time sexual experiences are here as well. “Friendships” seem to be crumbling, as the drama builds and the “web” of lies are beginning to become exposed. Just like a spider web, have these character’s lives been connected at some previous point?

Lauren and Stef give you their opinions, all in their signature Southern style! We’ll have to keep watching to find out!

S1 Episode 103 ‘Seventy Cents’S1 Episode 103 ‘Seventy Cents’. Image by Hulu. Copyright 2020. Lauren and Stef break apart Hulu’s Little Fires Everywhere, Episode 3 “Seventy Cents”. The episode presents us with the scenario of two separate women being short just seventy cents on their purchases, yet HOW differently the impact on their lives: one being LIFE-Altering, and the other going unnoticed. Our hosts wonder, did Bebe try hard enough to find resources for her baby before giving up? OR are we actually blinded to the struggles of others and also blind to good fortune? Elena advises Izzy to shape her story in ways she wants others to believe. We examine this sentiment, whether this advice is good or bad, and also will it be deeply impactful to the plot of the series moving forward?

    Taboo Themes

The taboo themes of privilege, entitlement, and secrets present much to be discussed. Touchy topics:  #illegalImmigration, #hunger, #adoption  #identity #sexualIdentity, #relationships, and #motherhood are here in full force.  A regretful decision has led to the consequence of sorrow for Bebe, and as the drama builds, we must decide if she was ever at fault in her circumstance, and if so, does she deserve redemption? With Mia invested in helping, it leaves us suspicious that the character’s lives been connected at some previous point? BUT HOW?? Lauren and Stef give you their takes. We’ll have to keep watching to find out! This week, Stef and Lauren discuss Hulu’s “Little Fires Everywhere, Episode 2 – Seeds and All”.   This week’s episode focused a lot on the relationship between mothers and daughters.

Listen as we discuss Elena and Mia’s first day of working together. Why is Elena so lenient of Mia as an employee?

Meanwhile, we see Izzy face more ridicule at school, and her reaction is explosive. Pearl meets opposition from the school counselor, and we are very intrigued by how she handles it or rather how it’s handled for her.

We see a small bridge begin to form between Mia and Elena when Mia rescues Elena from a very awkward book club situation, and the two seem to start building a friendship, but will it last?

Lastly, We discuss the relationships beginning to form between Izzy and Mia as well as Elena and Pearl. Mia does not like the crack she’s starting to see in her relationship with Pearl.
