- 18 minutes 10 secondsThe Only Practice Plan You'll Ever Need!
Every time a pro wins with a quirky move, it shows up on the lesson tee the next week.... the bowed wrist, the foot hop, the "swing that will revolutionize golf." We all love an outlier, and we all think we're one magic bullet away. In this episode of the Athletic Motion Golf Podcast, Mike Granato & Shaun Webb break down why copying those moves is the fastest way to wreck your golf swing, and what you should be stealing from tour players instead.
The real answer is their mindset and how they practice: low ball counts, rehearsal swings, verifying every feel against Gears, TrackMan, or video instead of trusting feel alone, and practicing with a plan rather than reacting to the last shot you hit. We get into honest swing-change timelines (why a tour coach will tell a player it might take two years), the 1%-a-day math, the ladder to unconscious competence, why bad concepts are the easiest to ingrain and the hardest to undo, Tony Ruggerio's 3x5 note card system, and why filming your on-course swing β not your basement swing β is the only way to see what you're actually changing.
Get good at the basics. That's where 95% of them live. Timestamps below.

You're striping it on the range, then somewhere between the range and the first tee your swing vanishes β "where did that guy go?" It happens to everyone, and in today's Athletic Motion Golf Podcast, Shaun Webb and Mike Granato break down exactly why, and how to bring your range swing to the course.
We get into the false confidence of hitting the same club over and over, why you should change clubs and targets every ball ("play the course on the range"), and the number one killer under pressure: getting quick and not finishing your backswing. You'll hear the Jack Nicklaus "finish your backswing" principle, David's "miss it quick," VJ Singh's one-two-three-four count and the Tour Tempo idea, Dr. Debbie's archery drill and "second serve" philosophy for making a free first swing, plus how nerves quietly wreck your setup β Adam Scott, Nick Price adjusting to the wind, and why it's the mosquitoes that get you, not the bears.

#golftips #driver #golfswing #athleticmotiongolf17 July 2026, 4:00 am - 16 minutes 28 secondsHow To Actually Use a Launch Monitor To Improve Your Swing!
Launch monitor ownership among amateurs has exploded. Trackman, Foresight, SkyTrak, Garmin, Bushnell...everyone has one at home now, and everyone is chasing numbers. Shaun Webb and Mike Granato from Athletic Motion Golf open the conversation with the honest working truth of every measurement tool. The launch monitor tells you what happened at impact. 3D tells you why it happened. And when you use only the former, you end up doing what tour pros used to do when Trackman first hit the scene. You Trackman your way off the tour.
The specific pitfalls hit hard. Winter indoor practice with a launch monitor produces a swing built for the simulator, not the golf course. The launch monitor only knows where straight is relative to where it's set up. You can stand on your head and put a zero path number up if you aim right. The simulator's four walls do the aiming work for you. The 550-yard par 5 doesn't. And once you see a red number, the temptation is to contort your downswing to fix a symptom while the actual cause (setup, backswing sway, spine lean) sits untouched.
Shaun tells the story of the scratch golfer he grew up playing with who was a club champion. He sliced it all around the course, but he knew exactly what the ball was going to do every time. Give him a Trackman and tell him minus 8 path is bad, and he would never have broken 100 again.
The fix is a philosophy. Understand the tool's limitations. Understand how to use the tool. Then understand how to use the data. Attack the earliest thing in the swing that is broken. Get out of the parking lot before you worry about which street to turn down. Marry the launch monitor (club and ball data) with a body measurement tool (Swing Coach app is the "launch monitor for the body"). Plus the reference to Jason Baile (2023 PGA National Teacher of the Year) at the Trackman User Conference. He gets his tour players focused on just one or two parameters instead of all 40+.

Welcome to the swing confessional.
Shaun Webb and Mike Granato from Athletic Motion Golf open up about every dumb thing they bought, built, or did in the name of getting better at golf before they had GEARS, force plates, or any way to actually measure what works. Their stories are funny, painful, and brutally honest. The kind of stuff most golf coaches would never admit to a camera.
The PVC pipe SAM 2000 ring that gave Shaun two months of shanks before his first season in Maine. The Mark Brooks strap-and-cuffs system that gave him the laterals. Mike convincing his dad to buy a brand-new Brute garbage can so he could cut the rim off and duct-tape it to the wall to swing inside. Shaun's wholesale Bob Mann's Automatic Golf rebuild two weeks before his state championship (he somehow hit 17 greens β still praising Bob Mann). The Killer B driver with the 46-inch shaft. The Viper Bite sandpaper-faced wedge. The original Medicus breakaway and the friend who bought one in a pro shop and shanked the first four approach shots of a money game with money on every hole.
Plus the methodology spectrum that traps so many golfers (one extreme to the other), the discovery that tour pros congregate in a tight "AMG window" of about 8-10 parameters, and why Shaun's nephew growing up now has access to information that Shaun and Mike spent decades wishing they had.

"For anyone taking on the task of improving their golf swing... you have to F your feels."
Your feels are a memory. They're not a movement. They degrade over time, they're the worst possible anchor for changing a real motor pattern, and they're the number one reason why "I tried it and it didn't work" means literally nothing in a golf lesson.
Shaun and Mike from Athletic Motion Golf break down the lesson moment every golfer has been through...making a swing, being asked "did you do it?" and answering "I felt like I did" β only to pull up GEARS and see zero change. The fix is the same every time: slow down to about 45-50 mph (which feels like 3 mph), let your brain catch up with the club, actually feel the new move in real time. Then build the reps back up by 5 mph at a time.
Plus the Tiger Woods quote about feel matching real, the Hank Haney concept that you can't teach a slicer to hit it straight (you have to teach him slice to hook to good golf), the Disney Grand Prix guardrail analogy that finally explains why "outside by five" is what neutral feels like when you're stuck inside by five, and the brutal "I have five swings" lesson moment that exposes why most golfers think they have control they don't actually have.

Most golf training aids will make you worse...and the average golfer doesn't know.
Shaun Webb and Mike Granato from Athletic Motion Golf pull back the curtain on training aids: the ones they actually recommend, the ones that quietly train the OPPOSITE movement of what you're trying to fix, and the simple criteria every training aid has to pass to be worth your money.
The big rule: a training aid should give you feedback, not do the work for you. If it restricts you into the right position (rails, arm tubes, swimming pool noodles, butt-band restrictors), your muscles are training to push AGAINST the restriction β which means as soon as you take it off, you've ingrained the exact pattern you were trying to change. Shaun's confession about the swing jacket is the perfect cautionary tale. Thousands of balls trained the wrong move.
Plus the Greg Rose TPI concept of "use the opposite" (pull the golfer toward the bad move so they have to engage the right muscles to counter it), why the Hits Driver is one of the only training aids on AMG's recommendation list, and why the camera + foam ball + Swing Coach app combo is the most underrated training aid setup you already own.
And the bonus: camera perspective and lens distortion in golf swing video β why the iPhone "3D" apps that point at a laptop screen produce horrific data, and why your swing looks completely different from four cameras three feet apart.

#golftips #golfswing #athleticmotiongolf #golftrainingaids19 June 2026, 4:00 pm - 27 minutes 40 secondsThese 3 Things Decide Whether You Ever Improve at Golf!
Why do so many golf lessons fail? It's not always the coach. It's not always the player. It's usually the conversation that never happened between them.
In today's Athletic Motion Golf Podcast, Shaun Webb and Mike Granato break down both sides of the golf lesson equation. The player side (what to expect, what to ask, what to demand) and the coach side (the resort lesson vs. the player development lesson, why setting expectations matters, why measurement beats opinion). Plus the three reasons most lessons fail and the simple formula that fixes it.
The framework. Good information + correct application + repetition = improvement. If you're not getting better, one of those three is off. That's it. There's no magic secret formula. There's no special drill that unlocks the swing. The work happens between lessons, and the feedback loop is what separates real improvement from "I think I'm doing it right."
Shaun shares his own story β two years to build a swing flaw he was taught (too much shaft lean), over ten years to unlearn it. A 5 to 1 ratio. Plus the Grant Hill path-fix example that shows why a coach has to walk you through what's coming next, the social media posed-before-and-after problem, and why having a swing coach app on every swing has been a complete game changer.

#golftips #golfswing #athleticmotiongolf #golflessons #golfcoaching12 June 2026, 4:00 pm - 13 minutes 46 secondsThe Most Misunderstood Move in Golf (Even Instruction Gets It Wrong)!
The most misunderstood thing in the entire golf swing. Impact doesn't happen on the front side of your body. It happens on the trail side.
Shaun Webb and Mike Granato break down the concept that almost no golf instruction teaches β and the reason every cartoonish impact pose, rib-cracker drill, and "swing your arms across" cue has been training you toward the opposite of what every tour player actually does. The pie chart breakdown explains it cleanly: at impact, your body has rotated open, and the ball, hands, lead elbow, and club are all in the trail-side 60-degree pie of your pelvis. Not the front side. Not where you've been practicing for years.
When you understand where impact really lives, you stop forcing the contorted poses, you stop shoving the hands forward, and you let body rotation deliver shaft lean and shallowing for free. Tour average shaft lean is only 7.98 degrees. The obsession with massive lean is misplaced. Position the body correctly and everything else follows.

You can take a lesson from the best coach in the world and still waste your money. Not because the instruction is bad. Because of how you take the lesson!
Shaun Webb and Mike Granato from Athletic Motion golf break down the player's side of the equation... the part almost nobody talks about. How to show up, what information to give your coach, why racing through a bucket of balls ruins everything, why you have to ignore your feels and the strike when you're making a mechanical change, and why every real swing change takes months, not one range session.
This is the mindset and the method that separates golfers who get max value out of a lesson from golfers who walk away frustrated and no better.

The follow-up to the Bad Swing Advice Hall of Fame is finally here. After the first podcast, Mike Granato & Shaun Webb were flooded the comments with one reques... do the BEST swing advice version. So Shaun and Mike sat down and inducted the cues they use to fix more amateur swings than anything else.
The first inductee alone fixes 999 out of 1000 golfers. The trail arm has to lift and stay wide in the backswing. Almost every amateur lowers it. Almost every tour player lifts it. It's the single most common move that separates the buckets.
They also induct Scott Hamilton's "on plane early" cue, the recentering concept that AMG named years ago, the Lazy Susan downswing, the "no hip turn in the backswing" foundation (with a nod to Dr. Kwon's "turn shoulders, tilt hips"), and the driver tip that finally lines up the clubface without forcing shaft lean.
These are the cues AMG uses to coach players off the hamster wheel and into real ball striking improvement.

You can get 500 golf lessons a day on Instagram. That's the problem.
Shaun Webb and Mike Granato break down what they call the "golf swing hamster wheel" β the trap most amateur golfers are stuck in. Try a tip. Bail after one bad shot. Try the next tip. Spend years working hard and going nowhere.
This episodeΒ of the Athletic Motion Golf Podcast is the framework AMG uses to coach players off the hamster wheel for good. The five-step system covers what to look for in an online coach, why most ground force teaching is guessing, the Tony Rogerio 3x5 card rule for real improvement, Jack Nicklaus on why a swing change has to feel weird, and how to use Swing System 2.0 and the Swing Coach app to build a blueprint you don't have to rebuild every six months.
What you'll learn:
The first question to ask any online coach. "Do you measure?"
Why ground force teaching without force plates is mostly guessing
The parking lot analogy that explains why most amateurs never improve
The Tony Rogerio 3x5 note card rule. Three things for a full year
The Jack Nicklaus answer for "why does this feel weird?"
Why feel is the least reliable source of feedback in the golf swing
How to calibrate today's feel against tomorrow's drift
