    Whats on our bench: 🎶

Pete is doing a ton of garden prep, 3D printing kitchen organization accessories, hired a housekeeper, and went on a maker bar crawl.

Dan got the new dust collector parts for assembly, getting ready for a DC rerun, and finally started editing the built in video.

Braden made a logo for a ceramics studio that he had to remake, had to deal with an etsy customer like Dan, and got in a fight with some plumbing.

    Whats on our bench: 🎶

Pete helped move Justin Bailey’s Shop, started working in the print shop more and has made a lot of progress in the space. Fixed multiple printers, started making another printer from spare parts, cleaned up his woodshop finally, and he’s been working in the garden prepping seedlings and plants for the growing season.

Dan had a super busy week in the shop, got some help from Braden to get caught up, got confirmation of his new dust collector, and did a live on tiktok for the first time.

Braden thinks Dan MIGHT….maybe….have a method to his madness, helped Dan with his orders, helped him optimize his process a bit more, slowly wrapping up the built-ins, and knocking out his own orders.

    Whats on our bench: 🎶

Pete finished building the greenhouse in the garden, set up a garden lounge with some couches and getting the plants prepped for planting.

Dan is playing around with some new 3D prints to help around the shop, and prepped for the midwest maker meetup with Braden.

    Questions:

    Whats on our bench: 🎶

Pete finished the basement workshop expansion and got to work a few day from the new desk space and loves it, and then he got sick and couldn't do anything.

Dan selling a bunch of stuff he was never expecting to sell on his site, and worked on the built- at Braden’s.

Braden worked with Dan on the built in cabinets, fed Dan Costco Pizza (and Dan said it was better than Casey’s), finished the doors for the built ins, and has a few signs he has to knock out within two weeks

    Questions:

    UPCouple

What tools would you recommend for a cabinet shop?

    Platte Valley Woodworks

I am making a cornhole boards set, the customer will be having vinyl printed for it from a professional sign maker.  Should I still put some sort of finish on it, or just leave it bare?  Should I finish the sides and underneath and leave the top bare wood?

    ChrisWillMake

So what does everybody do for their home shops in terms of insurance?  Had a scare over the weekend with an attempted burglary and it’s got me reevaluating physical security and insurance stuff.

Braden did a deep clean in his shop and cleaned out his dust collection, got some crazy cheap and super cupped white oak for the built ins, and got his new Mirka sander.

    Whats on our bench: 🎶

Pete made great progress on his in house honey-do list and had to rework his hardware storage because of it.

Dan is working hard to keep ahead of his orders, had some silly customer interactions, and finally emptied his dust collection.

Braden started testing more materials on the fiber laser, has to customize a sledgehammer for a client,

    Questions:

    Greg

    Platt Valley Woodworks

I have been using boiled linseed oil on my cedar bird houses and other spring items for market. The instructions tell me to mix two parts mineral spirits to one part linseed oil. I did it with my first products, but skipped it the last few items. Now I mixed it again and I think it helps to richen the color more. When I didn't mix I got a dull finish that looks good, but isn't a rich in color. Is it because the mineral spirits thins the oil down and it can penetrate better? Or am I just a crazy old dirty hoe lover?

    Trash Valley Panda

I am teaching architecture to high school students and interior design is part of the course and I like to assign a cardboard furniture challenge. Like making a chair from Amazon boxes etc. I want to kick it up a notch. What kind of furniture build would you want to see made from cardboard? What would wow you?
