Finding Strength and Strengths in Each Other with Marilee Killpack and Jessica Eraso of Gathre
Best friends and business partners, Mare and Jess are two of the most genuine women you’ll cross paths with. I wish you could have been in this interview in person to see the admiration these two have for each other, but I think you’ll get a good glimpse of it as we talk. You’ll also get a great sense of their passion and commitment to what they do.

As founders of the company, Gathre, Mare and Jess created a brand that doesn’t just sell a product. Nope - these girls are on a mission to remind us all to live with intention and purpose and to clear out the clutter that distracts us from being our best selves.

And yes, we’ll talk all things leather mats and home, but what you’re also going to hear is a truly wonderful example of what it means to find strength in other women AND how impactful it is to look for and lean into one another’s strengths.

Navigating Life's Wins and Losses to Better Strengthen the Family On and Off the Court with Lee Anne Pope
She grew up on the basketball court, following her dad’s career as a college men’s basketball coach. She knew the game like the back of her hand. Still does. Learning from her dad as they watched his players, went on recruiting trips and just spent time together at the dinner table, were some of Lee Anne Pope’s fondest memories with her dad, Lynn Archibald.

It was years of moving from state to state, years of wins, and years of losses that taught Lee Anne and her family what it really means to be part of a team, on and off the court. What she didn’t know in her youth, however, was that her experiences as the coach’s daughter would be preparing her for a future as a coach’s wife.

But it was certainly not planned or expected. Lee Anne actually graduated with a Broadcast Journalism degree from Brigham Young University and landed a job at ESPN in Bristol, Connecticut right out of college. The job of her dreams, or so she thought.

It wasn’t long after she started at ESPN that a friend encouraged her to move down to Manhattan and take a job with her as David Letterman’s assistant - a job that would change her life forever and actually help get her back on the basketball court.

Lee Anne Pope is the wife of BYU Men’s Basketball Head Coach, Mark Pope, she’s a mother of four girls, and she’s helping to build the best locker room in America! (I’m only a little biased - wink wink).

Today, Lee Anne shares with us the lessons she learned from her parents during the ups and downs of her dad’s career, as well as how her childhood experience shaped her and prepared her for her career, for marriage and for motherhood.

    Family First with Kelsey Nixon
Today’s guest is a long-time friend and a name you’ll no doubt recognize if you’re a Food Network and Cooking Channel fan - Kelsey Nixon.

Kelsey has had a passion for food for as long as I can remember… and that goes back to our college years!

Kelsey launched her career in food on season 4 of Food Network Star just as she was wrapping up her undergraduate degree in Broadcast Journalism at BYU, where she also created and hosted a college cooking show called Kelsey’s Kitchen that focused on fast, fun, and affordable meals for college students.

Food Network Star was just the beginning for Kelsey. She later hosted Kelsey’s Essentials, executive produced by Bobby Flay and one of the first pieces of original programming on Cooking Channel - which earned Kelsey a daytime Emmy nomination.

Kelsey’s Essentials eventually grew to Kelsey’s Homemade, a cookbook, “Kitchen Confidence,” and a line of kitchen tools and small appliances featured on HSN. She’s been part of the Food Network family since 2008 with appearances on Iron Chef America, Chopped, Beat Bobby Flay, Guy’s Grocery Games, and Cutthroat Kitchen. Kelsey also regularly appears on the Today Show, Rachel Ray and Access Hollywood.

More recently, Kelsey executive produced and hosted the hit family meets food game show, Dinner Takes All.

Kelsey lives in Southern California with her husband, Robby, and her kids, Ollie, Nora and Penny.

Today Kelsey shares with us the ups and downs of this incredible journey, along with what it was like taking a step back from a booming career to focus on family, and what she’s doing now to help you focus on dinnertime and family time.

Creating Unity Where It Matters Most with Special Guest with Steve Carlston
In a world that seems to be increasingly divisive and volatile, I've been asking myself more and more: what can I do to make a positive impact? How can I increase unity? I know it may be far-fetched to think I can change the world as a whole, but what about the world around me, right here next to me each day? In today's episode, I'm talking with Steve Carlston, my dad and President of NBC Los Angeles, about the increase in divisiveness and defensiveness, and what we can do right now, in our homes, families, and communities to create more unity, more love, and more respect.

Navigating Divorce While Strengthening Family Relationships with Dr. Matt Townsend
Not too long ago I had a listener reach out and ask if I’d do an episode about navigating divorce. Her parents had just announced theirs, and this listener found herself lost in this new space. I promised her I would. I promised because there were so many times early in my parents’ divorce, and even now, 18 years later, when I wished I would have been able to hear someone else’s story, when I wanted to feel less alone, when I needed help better understanding and better navigating what was going on.

Rather than just share my personal experience and what I’ve learned over the last nearly two decades, I’ve invited my friend Dr. Matt Townsend to help guide this discussion and offer his expert advice for not just navigating divorce as the child or parent when it happens, but also for navigating our relationships before it even becomes a possibility.

So today, this episode is for that listener, and hopefully it helps many others.

For more than two decades, Dr. Matt Townsend has been energizing and educating audiences with his unique lessons on life, love and leadership. Known as one of America’s top presenters in the field of Human Relations and Development, Matt blends humor and story-telling with his real-life solutions to inspire and motivate healthier living.

Matt completed both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the field of communication with an emphasis in conflict resolution. He then earned a second master’s degree and a Ph.D. in the field of Human and Organizational Systems. Before building his own coaching practice, Matt spent 7 years as a consultant and presenter for Franklin Covey Co., and also worked as a mediator for companies and couples.

Matt can be seen weekly on KSL Television’s, Studio 5 with Brooke Walker. His book Starved Stuff: Feeding The 7 Basic Needs of Healthy Relationships is a popular pick among those searching for better relationship skills and can be found on Amazon, and on his website at MattTownsend.com. He also has his online workshops about Marriage, Parenting and Anxiety and coaches individuals and couples on these issues.

Matt's greatest love in life is his wife Mardi, and they have been married for 28 years. They are the parents of 6 children: one girl and 5 boys. Their daughter and son-in-law have blessed them with their first 3 grandchildren.

Finding Strength in Community and Mindset with Jenica Parcell
From lifestyle blogger to life coach, Jenica Parcell’s journey has made a lot of course corrections over the years. Today on "Courtney, Beyond the Cake," Jenica is sharing her story with us and how she knows she landed right where she was always meant to be.

After years of silently suffering the heartache and pain of infertility, Jenica started to share her story and was amazed at the supportive response from her community. In fact, that response was the inspiration for sharing more often and later building a community specifically for women experiencing infertility.

As she changed her course, she found new opportunities and has shifted her focus completely to helping other women with similar struggles.

Jenica is the founder of The Slice of Sun, an organization that raises money for couples experiencing infertility, she also has coaching programs for mindset and awareness, as well as a podcast, Fearless Fertility.

Jenica is now mom to 5-year old twins, Goldie and Harris, and a dear friend of mine.

Whether you’ve experienced infertility or not, there’s so much in Jenica’s episode today that can guide you through any struggle you may be facing.

Is Instagram a Toxic Place for Teenage Girls with Andrea Davis
You may have heard: Facebook recently released an internal research study about the harmful effects of Instagram (one of its properties) on teenage girls. The report shares how 1 in 3 teenage girls who use Instagram are likely to develop an eating disorder and/or depression. What is Facebook doing about? Well, nothing, really.

So what can WE do as parents to keep social media a safe and healthy place for our kids? Today, I’ve invited back Andrea Davis, founder of Better Screen Time to talk about the research findings and to share with us ways we can fight the harmful effects of social media, while also teaching our kids healthy usage habits.
